This is the Kemper / Quad Cortex I always wanted. Realistic, accurate captures via PC (which makes more sense anyway), amazing sound quality, relatively simple PC software, small footprint / easy to transport, and an affordable price. Definitely getting one!

As a harmonica player, this Tonex player seems very enticing, if ... it can be patched with the elusive combination of unobtainably rare & expensive amps that actually sound & work well for amplified harmonica. Whether or not it'll be achievable at any stage it's hard to say, but I love the concept of having an all-in-one tone box, then plug into a clean amp, FR/FR speaker or PA. I think the price point of the Tonex is pretty reasonable considering what other products cost. In the meantime, I'll sit on the fence and think about it.

@@BigHairyGuitars i thank you a lot…but youre a preamp guy so am i.. it would be verry useful to have your preamp only captures so that we can use them with the power amps of our own rigs and or with things like the virtual ones on the wos or cab m. I know you know… exemple: CUST 3+ pack as 37 actual presets but an updated one would include a few others of different flavours of the 3 channels pre only. If that make sense. This midi controlled tonex pedal could now be a part in a loop of our pedal switcher based pedalboard. The output of the board could feed a poweramp/cab to gig and a cab m to track, as an exemple. Can you disable direct input monitoring if using it as an interface?, for example using it in Reaper to hear the pedal tones trough it's headphone out but at the same time the other USB signals come back, that way we can add more FX in the chain or another vst without having phasing issues while hearing the amp tones directly from the pedal and back again via USB

Great review - thanks! Does anyone know: a) Where the manual is available? It probably has answers to my other questions, but I can't find it. b) What can the MIDI do? Is there a list of CC codes somewhere? Can you custom assign CC codes? c) What can the expression input do? Can the tones of different Wah or other variable pedals be captured? Can a pedal control Reverb/Gain?Volume or other parameters? d) When you over-write a preset, can you save the original (and for that matter ANY preset) in a file within the software? e) If using with a guitar amp, would this be best going in front or through the effects loop? 4CM? f) If using with a multi-effects unit through an amp, would this be best before or after? Thanks for any help!

@@BigHairyGuitars It's on the ToneX page on their site. I was reading through it last night. I still can't wrap my head around no fx loop. I do a lot of modern church gigs and they don't want loud amps on stage. @@allpdmusic FX loop would be nice so you can use post FX into the USB interface. However, yeah, you can put any of your FX after the pedal, and it's totally fine. Same as with the UA Dream pedal. Telling the keyboard/ Guitar Effects / Song Player to change to the correct setting , via a midi controller, then i just play. Would the ( Tone X Pedal ) fit into this setup. Also I've NOT heard much about it's MIDI Capabilities. Is it possible to CAPTURE Amp + Echo and other combinations of amp and guitar effects and use as saved patch in the ( Tone X Pedal ) If so, would it be possible for you to cover these issues on your channel. Thanks John e

8:31 @johnemerson2876 mate I can’t believe this question you asked has been ignored, one of the best and very relevant questions I’ve seen relating to guitar midi / software and or physical modern devices. The stuff dreams are made of for performing half way across a stage with a bass player in your way, when you realise you’re supposed to be in a lead break not a repeated chorus ~! :)) but if the lil midi gremlin had its patch changer linked to the click (track/ smpte time keeper or similar) there’d be no stomp required. Just pure performance bliss. And bottom line as a budding muso’ we hate wasting $$ ~ you’re question is So Valid - I’m stunned it’s been bypassed for 11 months, I would’ve thought atleast someone from @IKMultimedia would’ve pounced at the chance to answer to clear the conscience of thousands of hesitant customers. I’ll do their job for them, for you. The answer is YES, this is entirely what it does best, BUT that’s if you use DAW to run the timebase of your songs. The ToneX stomp is great with or without a DAW, and negates software if you just want to manually change sounds. Automation changes can ONLY be done via MIDI Programming Changes, and in most cases a DAW

I want a hardware box that uses plug ins and captures. For example the ADA MP-1 plug in. I stayed away from plug ins because I don't like having to keep buying a new computer. I’m always afraid of latency when using IK products with live audio. No matter the computer or interface it’s just painful. I hope I can actually try the hardware before purchasing, to release those fears. Been using T-Racks forever, great product. But anything to do with live signals is disappointing. I also have only one device I would model. It’s my main tone box and nothing can match it. I’d like to see how close it could come to matching it. The free version doesn’t let you try capturing, so there’s no way of knowing. Don’t mind paying if it worked.

This pedal could be perfekt, but there are some essential Ins and Outs missing: Send/Return for a FX Loop and a Aux In! With this addet this pedal would be perfekt and because I most of the time play with headphones I would immediatly sell my amp and replacs it with the tonex pedal, but because these Ins and Outs are missing it is totally useless for me! How can I connect my reverb and delay pedal? We all know that it sound like crap infront of a distorted amp... And when I practice at home I whant to play to backing tracks, but for that I would need the Aux In. So it is kind of sad to me, that because these things are missing the pedal is useless for me!

I rushed to order this thing this afternoon, not wanting to deal with a massive pre-order wait time, and I didn’t read/understand all the specs first…. So, using it as an interface-are you saying it does its audio over that USB connection? So, it goes straight into my DAW? I had planned to use it with post-amp effects on my pedalboard, so this is maybe not as useful as I was just imagining, but I guess it makes a cleaner path to recording if I want to use DAW effects and plugins instead of my delays and reverb pedals.

Hi Michael, I just bought this pedal and I connected it to my Tascam model 12 on channel 2, but I’m getting latency from the playing to the actual sound coming out of my speakers. I saw other that say you need to switch it between live and interface; so you know if that’s the case? Thanks!
@BigHairyGuitars
@BigHairyGuitars Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you'll be best off doing direct monitoring from the Tascam channel so the latency is as low as possible.

It works into a power amp, you just have to turn off the speaker sim. Really easy. Similar concept of how Poe Poe use AxeFX or a Kemper live. Same idea

It’s junk. Not a single decent sound in this unit as far as I’m concerned, unless you’ve got thousands of pounds of gear to back it up with. Biggest con of the decade if you ask me.

@@edwardgrassel872 Thanks. Yes and No. It does capture the preamp. Pretty accurately. HOWEVER, I had a great tone going with my Morin preamp. Captured. Swapped in the TONEX, but the TONEX could not put out enough actual output level to hit the power amp in the same way that the hardware preamp does. So, it WAS the same sound, but wan't delivering in the same way. So, yes and no.
