Dreams of the wind are hard to let go, once you have had them. Sailing is a rare chance at freedom in an increasingly unfree world. A friend of mine put it, "I am SURE that heaven has salty air!"

The only reason she stopped dancing is because as I was filming I realized we were about to hit a reef, then we went back to serious mode real fast! haha

Whaaaaat!? Have you read Barbarian Days? I just finished it! Awesome to hear about the surf in Fiji from years past. We'd be keen to hear any tips you have :)
@kevinwhiteson19627 жыл бұрын
is barbarian days about using live people to be crushed instead of coconut trees to launch there 100 foot canoes? or offering the victim of canabilism a bite of his arm they were about to eat? i read that one. fiji is amazing and as a surfer in the mamanuthas you have tavarua and namotu islands with world class surfing. everyone knows that. but the yasawa islands are pretty amazing cruising too.no surf. musket cove 25 years ago was just a shack with 12 bungalows. and a yacht club. it was magic. today there are probobly 600 bungalows on this island now. i hear its still cruiser friendly. my favorite island get away was called navandra about 30miles sail from musket in the mamanutha. waya is close by and also a nice place so much has changed over the years . i left because of it. but i miss it.

tips. its been 10 years . my best tip would be to stay during cyclone season.its nice in fiji year round.there is a mangrove in lautoka you can enter and ride out any size storm easily.or musket cove might still offer yachts staying over protection inside there inner cyclone hole. also vuda point marina has proven its a hurricane hole too. i would not cruuse yasawa in cyclone season but mamanutha is close enough to mangrove protection. lautoka was better than nadi. you need a few seasons to cruise fiji. it took me about 15.
@kevinwhiteson19627 жыл бұрын
tips the northern club in lautoka for a beer at the pool or a game of tennis.lautoka hotel for pizza mamas pizza in nadi. gopals for indian musket cove pig on spit night at least 1 time 25 years ago it was 5 bucks. i bet its 75 now.

Kevin Whiteson if we end up staying in Fiji during cyclone season I'm going to go ahead and tell you you just planted the seed for that idea. I don't think we can leave this place!

Hi, the Instagram link on your KZbin homepage (toward the upper right, inside the bottom right corner of the "channel art") has a typo with a couple of extra characters that prevent it from working correctly. Cheers.

Noticed that you have a Yamaha dingy engine. Have you had any problems with it or problems getting parts where you have been compared to Mercury engines seen on a few boats that are in the video. I am in the market for a new dingy tiller engine and wanted to know your recommendation. Mercury or Yamaha. Charles
@COUCHSAILORS7 жыл бұрын
Yamaha hands down. Everywhere we've been we've been able to find replacement parts relatively easily as most of the fishermen use them (in Mexico, French Polynesia, Cook Islands, Tonga, Fiji....you name it). Any problems we've had have either been user error or just general maintenance ;)
@COUCHSAILORS7 жыл бұрын
Just carry one of these around and if you run into any issues, you swap it out and you can deal with fixing it later, usually the only issues involve cleaning the carb with carb cleaner and patience amzn.to/2tuWOU7
