Laura, so many KZbin videos are pretty useless as they reflect someone quickly showing themselves doing a project but rarely take the time to “instruct” at a teachable pace. Your detailed explanation is amazing. I have been watching van life videos for four or five years and your videos are superb. Keep up the good work sister!

As someone who has been considering this for awhile now with no building experience or someone to teach me - your videos are the first that I've come across that really explain every aspect of what I thought would be my biggest hurdles (electrical, windows, fans, etc.). Makes me feel like I might actually be able to to this by myself! Can't afford to hire a builder or a built-out van, and you also happen to be building my ideal van layout. Thank you so so much for making this seem less daunting and possible! You really covered every detail a beginner would need - down to every piece of material you used. Will be back to replay your videos a million times over haha!

I'm new to your channel, and I love watching build video's. The main reason is that every now and then you witness what I call a little act of genius, like I'd never seen the playdough trick and to make it better, the syringe for putty. Two acts in one video, it could be one in a million. There were a few places where I asked my self why you did one thing in one place but not in another but so far, I'm enjoying the lessons.

Hi, You are helping us so much!!! Thanks!! Question: approximately how much Baltic birch did you use? I’m estimating (for 4x8 sheets) of Baltic birch (yes that size is available yay) 1/2”- 6 sheets 1/4”- 2 sheets 1/8”- 3 sheets Just wondering if I’m anywhere in ball park or if it’s a crazy amount
@LaurenLawliss4 ай бұрын
Hey! Good question. It depends on what you plan to build and what thickness you want for everything. Of course the more cabinetry you have, the more wood you will need. I purchased the following 4x8 sheets below (quantities on the left) and I planned every cut to limit waste: 2 - 1/8” 10 - 1/4” 18 - 1/2” 4 - 3/4” My van is 85% done so I still need to purchase some more wood for final touches but not major quantities. Your estimations seem very low to me for a full van build… very low. Doesn’t hurt to get some now and wait until you need more.

How tall are you? I'm 6'3" and am leaning toward a Transit HR. Definitely snowboard a lot, so I was thinking of a 1.5" Zip R-Sheathing floor. I haven't decided on the ceiling yet.

I am 6’. The ProMaster isn’t as tall as Transits and Sprinters but it is wider so I could put my bed wall to wall instead of front to back. My subfloor is 1/2 inch plywood and 1/4 inch vinyl planks. My ceiling is 1/2 inch furring strip and 1/4 inch tongue and groove. I cannot imagine making the floor or ceiling any thicker as it would not be comfy to standup in the van.

@@LaurenLawliss Thank you for the information. That confirms why I didn't think the ProMaster would be for me. I remember some winter nights going below 0F. In the planning I keep thinking that in a Transit, I might have to bite the bullet for FlareSpaces w/o windows or to go with a front/back bench/bed setup.

You could also look at the ProMaster extra high roof. They came out with that version last year after I already bought my van😆 flare will be a nice touch!

@@LaurenLawliss oh that's awesome... 7ft of internal height will make it a serious consideration. It seems to only come in the 159wb though.

The 159” wheelbase is what I have and it’s perfect! I wouldn’t want to go anymore or any less

As long as they are the same thread as the plus nut, they will work (which these appear to be).

didnt understand giftcard trick on the nail gun....
@LaurenLawliss4 ай бұрын
Since the tongue and groove I chose was so thin, the gift card helped to prevent the nails from going straight through the board and also helped to prevent dents and scratches from the nail gun 😁
