@@michi-bicaloric deficit is how you loose weight though. You could be eating 2,500 calories a day and even if you eat in a slight deficit eating at 2,300 calories a day you will see results. My mom is a multi-certified personal trainer, even educated in fitness with a degree in physical education and fitness. She’s been working in this industry for basically her entire life, starting as a PE teacher to gymnastics coach to personal training to fitness class coach and heck, even a swimming instructor. My point is, she’s basically a super human and she looks GREAT, especially at her age. She’s super fit and genuinely enjoys working out. But does that mean she doesn’t drink? Heck no, she loves wine. Not have a social life? She’s literally the life of any party. Not eat cake? She will probably makes like 3 cakes a week. Not eat out? We ordered sushi 2 days ago for dinner. Despite all of her working out, inane hours she does her swimming and gymnastics and conditioning classes, etc., she doesn’t have a six pack. She isnt out here promoting a workout to give people thigh gaps or help “fix” their hip dips. I often get sad and even jealous sometimes that she looks so so good, and it makes me upset to compare my body to her knowing I will never be that skinny and never have the motivation to work out like she does. But whenever I get that way, I have to remind myself that this is her JOB. Just like Ken’s job is beach, my mom’s is gym. So I can’t be too hard on myself because my reality is completely different than hers, and comparing my body and my needs to her will never make me feel better. It breaks my heart to see middle schoolers make “what I eat in a day” video showing GUM as a snack. Stopped going right after and invested in a set of adjustable dumbbells to workout at home. I’ve learned years ago from consistently going to the gym that people in the gym are the most insecure people you will ever meet. Most of them are going so they can magically look like someone else. It irritates my soul when trainers are telling people that they’ll look a certain way if they workout enough. Not everyone can have a small back and fat ass. Most of them aren’t actually qualified in that field at all, they’re just trying to teach you what worked for them without mentioning genetics. Most people need to aspire to look like their parents because that’s the most realistic version of yourself you will see from an objective perspective. Not random ppl on the internet 😅 Also, some people buy their body but there actually are A LOT of people who build their bodies in the gym. Most people do not have surgery, they have genetics that give them that body. I think that sometimes we like to delude ourselves into thinking people have to do extremes (like surgery) to look a certain way when they DO NOT. Some people are just naturally lucky and instead of coming at women who are blessed with those genetics, we should shift our focus back to ourselves because the reality is most of those women aren’t lying about their bodies, they’re just lucky. We need to find ways to feel good about ourselves without assuming the worst of others.
@kirby74756 ай бұрын
Spot on! Especially the part about genetics. Fact of the matter is our genetics determine what we look like to a very large extent, and might even be more pronounced after spending time in the gym. Personally I've been blessed with a bit of a booty, but then again, I'm a man, so not sure that's much of a flex😅 Anyway I've put much more time and effort into my shoulders, yet they pale in comparison. Why? Genetics. I'm not trying to discourage anyone btw. No matter your genetics, if you put work in, you'll see great improvements. And who's to say you don't have "good" genetics? You won't know until you give them a chance to shine after all.

You know, something I despise is that gym influencers constantly pose and edit their way into convincing other people they’re better than them. I constantly and I mean CONSTANTLY see very, very posed pictures. “How I grew my glutes in a week” and it’s them strategically angled, and if you look for more than a second or two you can see there’s no difference in the glutes, they just posed differently. Lest we not forget the influencers with BBLs that try to paint it out as natural gym growth. Working out is great if you like to do it! But 99% of the time, everyone has completely different bodies and different body composition. I may have a natural shelf to my glutes and I can build those, but there are many, many women I’ve seen who feel even worse when they can’t grow things that other women seem to be able to. They then go on to sell courses based on insecurities, and that’s the craziest part to me.

I hate the recording in the gym. I understand people want to record their journey (sometimes) but other times it’s invasive. I was in the gym the other day and this girl was filming herself working out and her camera was facing the room, rather than her recording herself with the wall in the background. There were also a lot of mirrors. I kept moving to avoid being in the line of sight of the camera and it was so annoying. I don’t personally record myself working out and I don’t want to be filmed when I go to the gym, it’s like a safe space and working out is peaceful. I have multiple gym memberships and I prefer the private gyms over the $10 gyms, there’s such a big difference in the types of people that pay for a private gym

Well i do suffer from a binge eating disorder, and on my fitness journey i was lifting weights. Yes my progress was good, but i also had an increased appetite which led me to binge some more! I was constantly hungry, always eating & lifting heavier weights to burn it off! It was a bad cycle. SO I STOPPED lifting weights, stopped eating after 9pm and started doing pilates & cardio. And now im no longer suffering from binging episodes & my body looks Great 😊 Everything is under control. We all have to find a fitness plan that work for us.

Much needed video. I’ve gone in and out of the fitness world and I’m just tired of it and the pressure. It feels so forceful and guilt driven. I’m into enjoying my body and food. If I want to walk or go to the gym, or do any other exercise, it will be because I want to, not because I feel like I have to. Loving our bodies is so important. The trends are so unhealthy and a weird obsession on how one looks rather than how one feels.

All we really need is to go on walks daily and eat fruits with every meal no matter what you’re craving at the time. Try not to eat fast food literally every meal of the day if you can afford it.

that’s good advice! just walks may be a little light, as you age you should probably do strength training cause it might help but i’m not an expert.
@alkahinat45586 ай бұрын
Facts. Been adding walks to my swimming/water workouts and am already seeing results Doing about an hours walk after a workout is perfect for me, because apparently fat burning starts after 30 minutes when you’re walking So the advice is not to rely on short bursts throughout the day, try to go over 30 minutes so you can get into fat burning mode (if weight loss is a goal) The fast food-the greatest issue is that fast food is exactly that-fast. So it’s overly processed, technically isn’t always food, just edible, plenty of additives. High in calories, low in nutrients. What helps me is planning out meals about 3-4 days ahead, cooking a little extra so there’s leftovers (which I sometimes freeze) and keeping it interesting For people who may be hyper sensitive to sugar (like me), berries are a really good fruit choice, especially blueberries 🫐💙
@LLCoolJ_256 ай бұрын
I agree with the above comments. Walking is great and I unfortunately see people minimize its impact. But, it shouldn’t be the only type of exercise. My doctor said it was a great way for me to start my weight loss journey, but encouraged me to start doing strength training because growing and maintaining muscle is important for our bodies because it increases bone strength and decreases the likelihood of injuries. Oh, and core strength exercises! I did not realize how weak my core was and was truly humbled in a group exercise class when all the middle aged people had a stronger one than me.😂

I understand this take other than the having kids part. I’m sorry it’s been such a struggle! If you are concerned, if you are able to I always recommend finding a reputable and accredited dietitian/nutritionist for good help! Eventually the more we starve our bodies, the more weight it will hold onto because it’s trying to keep the fat content your body needs. Obviously kids, age hormones (thyroid levels too), activity and stress levels and the nutritional value all play a huge part in weight fluctuations. I wish you nothing but the best, and please try to contact accredited professionals for the help you may need. Therapy also is extremely helpful if it’s available because it will help you break down the thought/emotional process behind how we feel in our bodies.

I will say one note on the filming, a lot of the people who film in the gym don't film for Instagram or to influence. Part of training whether it be general training through a local trainer or training for bigger competitions, requires taking videos of your form doing specific exercises to make sure that you're doing them right, especially as you're adding a heavy load in order to ensure that you don't do damage to your body. Now that said, people who are filming to capture their form usually will have it strategically placed in order to capture a certain angle, which yes could mean that they capture more of the room, but they don't actually pay attention at all to who is in that shot, they're busy looking at what their body looks like throughout the movement. This is a really important tool to understand how your body moves and improving that mind body connection. It's also the reason why there's so many mirrors in the gym, contrary to what people might believe. It's a shame that influencers are abusing this tool that actually would be beneficial for a lot of people in the gym to prevent injury.

As a woman that is a gym head I resonated so much with this video. My weight has fluctuated so much and Ive been exercising for 4 years now, five days straight all while maintaining a healthy diet and watching what I eat when I do treat myself. I still struggle with self confidence. I wish that people (including myself) would prioritize HEALTH over how they look on the outside. Its easier said than done but I have found myself so unhappy with myself because I don’t look like all these women influencers. I am constantly chasing how they look and not what my body wants of me and loving who I am and not some other woman’s body over mine

Thank you so much for making this video. I had always been athletic and naturally muscular, but in my early thirties I found out my spine started to curve and I have some pretty bad arthritis in my back from a few injuries along the way. Now, being in my late thirties, I have lost quite a bit of weight over a short period. People ask me how I lost so much weight and I have always been 100% honest. I didn't lose weight any "healthy" way. I've been sick for a while now and this is what happens when you are ill. The only healthy thing I did was quit drinking alcohol three and a half years ago. People's responses are strange, ignoring the fact that I say I am ill and instead say "Well, you look really good!" I find that incredibly bizarre. Being ill is not something I enjoy, and I certainly would never tell anyone to just "get sick" to look good.

As someone who is training as a PT and nutritionist - I would just recommend finding those influencers who do have qualifications and speak of balance and not over training. Also best option would be to get a in person trainer or go to classes you really enjoy! Take what is on social media with a pinch of salt - instead as a baseline you can eat at least 3 homecooked (and maybe shared) meals a day, keep your workouts 45mins-1hr long (short and sweet!), don't overload on the weights - just enough to be challenging, focus on how you FEEL (you should feel more energised rather than exhausted after working out), higher reps 8-12x and lower weight is better for consistency and FUN, train 3-4x a week with some cardio included, train yourself the same way you would train a friend or child, do not restrict any food groups but you can mindfully limit as and when you feel like it. Hope this helps. It really is simple - but mainly focus on moving more and doing what you find enjoyable! What can you do for the rest of your life and keep it up consistently? There's your answer not in these influencers. And like mentioned we're all different so listen in and respect the ques your body is telling you (not what your mind is telling you - which can be often confused with listening in). x

I have been a victim to toxic gym culture, and I never thought it was that bad but videos like this are such an amazing way to understand yourself and society and help you keep your head up and avoid endorsing these harmful cultures. The problem with the internet is the fact that people watch a 15 second clip and call it being aware, for all we know it could be waffle. Videos like yours have hours worth of research and broader understanding as well as coming with recites and promotes learning and understanding in such a different way. Thank you for the content!!

On top of it all you also get the female fitness influencers who are not pro card bodybuilders but are currently on or have cycled steroids and performance enhancing drugs. For the average person who is looking to become more fit, improve their strength, lose weight/drop body fat etc or gain muscle mass this so beyond misleading and creates an awful standard this is where i think the line for many is crossed and where all these unhealthy, disordered eating habits and body dysmorphia begins. You have several NPC female bodybuilders and fitfluencers deliberately lying through the skin of their teeth to promote an unrealistic image that without drugs is unattainable. I also wish more of these girls would be transparent about the fact that they have cycled or are currently cycling drugs. As much as I also think the male gym culture/bodybuilding culture is pretty toxic I atleast appreciate how many of those men are honest about their drug usage. The lies, mis and disinformation that is being spread in the gym girl community boils my blood. Not to mention so many fitfluencers are directly profiting off of spreading false info and literally hurting and harming the lives of people who just simply wish to become healthier... Truly sickening.

They're not being fully open about what exactly they are taking. And it turns out a lot of regular guys who aren't body builder types but want to stay relatively lean are cycling one or two PEDs every so often - the casual marathon runner, the weekend cyclist... I agree though, I too was shocked and disappointed when I uncovered the extent of PED use in the girl fitness community among women who weren't competing or doing anything that would require such extreme measures.

LOVED this Toni! Also about sex, I’m learning from the Holy Spirit that when choosing a life of sexual purity, it’s more than just simply not having sex until you are married to someone, but this involves a process of unlearning my understanding of sex and choosing to re-learn sex in the way the Lord designed and understands it to be. God is Spirit so He wants us to worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24), so we must ask for HIS understanding when we try to live for Him, including when it comes to sex. Regardless of our experiences with sex or a lack thereof, we all have different things that have shaped the way we view sex due to the things we consume in the world, ie. our former sexual experiences of any kind, celebs/influencers we listen to, porn and masturbation, nudes, conversations in school, “advice” from friends and family, things we’ve witnessed, trauma, sexual fantasies, novels and erotica, romance films, etc. All of these things and more are the ways of the world that feed us a view of sex outside of God’s original intent of it, and they all influence and therefore shape the way that we view sex and engage in it. When we choose to not just refrain from having sex until marriage simply out of obligation, but instead live a lifestyle of sexual integrity that honors God, this means that by the help of the Holy Spirit, we are free to be candid and intentional in telling the Lord about whatever has influenced the way we formerly/currently view sex as, so we can learn from Him how we ought to understand and engage in sex, and so that we can experience it as the holy enjoyable act that God created it to be in the context He knows is best for us (a Christ-centered marriage with His guidance). This is how we EXCHANGE what we’ve believed sex to be for His design for sex instead. This is what living a life of purity truly entails, and regardless of your sexual history or inexperience this is applicable to someone who is single, dating, courting, waiting before marriage, AND is very helpful throughout the marriage too :)

What changed the game for me & my fitness journey was simply learning my own body. I started eating based on BLOOD TYPE, doesn’t matter how clean you eat if you’re eating the wrong foods regardless, you won’t feel good or see the results you wanna see. My blood type absorbs & processes red/lean meats like steak & lamb better than if I sit & eat a bunch of grilled chicken or seafood. Same with brown rice or anything whole grain essentially, my blood type is more receptive to colorful vegetables & deeper colored fruits. It also changes how often you feel hungry because you’re getting the proper nutrients within your body/bloodstream.

Spending 2-3 hours in the gym is absolutely unnecessary and actually counterproductive. Lifting should not take more than an hour- you shouldn’t be doing several different exercises in a session. And doing an hour of cardio before that will only drain your energy by the time you go to lift. Your body also needs rest to recover. 3x a week in the gym lifting max for an hour. Cardio can be thrown whenever it works best for you but it’s really not necessary unless you like it Spending more time in the gym doesn’t always mean more results. It’s about eating properly to fuel your body, train hard, and recover. There is a point of diminishing returns.

For anyone who might be looking for a little guidance whether they're looking to lose or gain weight is to use a TDEE (Total daily energy expenditure) calculator. It essentially shows how many calories your body expends in a day based on factors like gender, height, daily activity etc. If you want to gain weight just stay a little above the number it gives, and if you want to lose weight, just stay a little below. And I mean a little. 150-200kcal either way is good enough and is much more sustainable than any fad diet, fasting or whatever dietary nonsense is in these days.

Truth is no macro-nutrient is bad, they're all vitaly important. The poison is in the dose. We can get fat eating broccolli, as long as we just eat enough of it, exactly like we can lose weight eating McDonald's as long as we don't eat too much of it. I work from 9-7pm and go to the gym for 2-3h. It’s really just discipline and organization (ofc not talking about people who have kids) So, I’ve been an athlete my whole life and then started the gym 5 years ago. Here’s my take: 1. There is no health at every size. You are supposed to eat healthy and move your body. 2. Nobody is looking at you at the gym. Really. And if there is, well, idiots are everywhere. You deserve better than not going to a place because of maybe 1% of ppl. 3. Do NOT buy bs from fitness influencers. The majority of them had BBLs, fat transfers, hyaluronic acid etc done so that their body looks like that. Learn from papers, study nutrition. There is lots of valuable information on the internet. 4. There is also no “people who are bigger naturally or have bigger bones”, just people with faster metabolism than others. You may have a slow metabolism due to growing up or genetics, but you can change that. 5. You should never hate yourself for the way you look. But you need to take yourself accountable with your habits. It is also okay if you want to change your body to look a certain way, but understand it takes time, patience and discipline.

So when I hear things like this I feel even worse about recording. However I try to not get others in my shot for me to not have issues

All of this fitness content is so exhausting ... and confusing. I love working out and always willing to try something new but the misleading info is just so tremendous.

We should be focusing on exercising for our mental health and just health in general rather than focusing on the physical physique. There’s so much focus on looking a certain way as social media portrays. Little do most of us know is that most influencers accounts are an illusion and are far from authentic

Idk, I follow a few fitness influencers and a proper what I eat in a day gives a lot of great inspiration for meals or meal prep. I think there a plenty of fitness girls that promote healthy lifestyles and eating habits. Like anything on social media you have to find the right people to follow

My silly ex boyfriend started eating only green veg and eggs. He started peeing blood, having pain in stomach, but he still tried to say his diet is healthy. He didn't want to listen that his diet was making him sick.

Just started working out more serious recently. luckily i have just been through it with makeup influencers in the past so i have developed an eye for bullshit and all i gotta say is that the absolute worse is the women who get surgery and lie about it.

I love how you said it's okay to occasionally succumb to a little cake. The other day I heard a conversation of a lady bragging about eating fries thrice since the year started. I was so surprised and I just thought to myself that it could never be me since I love food and I love indulging in snacks once in a while.

I used to teach Pilates. A lot of my clients were seniors, and the focus was on maintaining health and increasing flexibility, mobility, etc. It's very disheartening to see these "influencers" putting the ALL of the emphasis on aesthetics. (Especially since Pilates was originally developed for bed-ridden patients.)

So ironic that I just started going to the gym. I spend about an 1hr-1hr 30min in the gym. I feel insecure sometimes because I see ppl spending 2hrs + in the gym but this video made me realize I need to relax and take things at a slow pace since I just started. I don’t even know what I’m doing sometimes😂. I’ve had an eating disorder in the past and I want to make sure that I’m eating 3 meals daily and not starving myself just to lose weight faster. That definitely affects your mental healthy and it’s very unhealthy. I also go to work from 8am-5pm so I go to the gym afterwards which is exhausting so I shouldn’t feel insecure about not putting in 2hrs of a workout.

I just see this leading to no recording/ phone use policies at gyms. potential invasion of privacy of others, hurting traffic control on use of machines if more people try to become fitfluencers

My personal issue with "what I eat in a day" is often it's not informative, nor is it really applicable to anyone who isn't an influencer. Regular people with regular jobs who live regular lives simply need to know how to eat properly for their weight loss goals, not some produced vanity plate that influencers probably don't prepare themselves, cost too much to make or don't eat on a regular basis.
