yeah. all their doing is photoshoots, promoting products, and getting surgeries. when you’re forced into your home and to wear a mask for a long period of time and your health and finances take a hit- while the influencers were partying and still selling products. we don’t relate to them. and we know their actual reality so many are no longer “envious”

Honestly , i think everyone is “GRWM’d” out. The influencer fall is mainly because everyone is doing the same thing void of substance. I love to see the shift because it requires content creators to bring value to their audience not just an amazon store front. I believe content creators can still get a big while providing value .

Every single GRWM today: Waking up with perfect hair, big stretch in front of some big ass window Breakfast(usually consists of avocado toast, smoothie, or something that can be eaten by a squirrel) A workout in a matching pastel colored outfit Writing in a journal/ typing on a computer Some random errand, insert a dog a cat or a boyfriend

Honestly I think this is the one time in life where I think people are starting to look different cuz of fashion niches on the internet. I’ll be at my airport in my city and see a bunch of different styles on young people, it’s interesting. If anything I think trends will always be there and there will always be groups of people that look alike, but I’ve noticed there’s just more trends now and more little communities that follow them. I think it’s interesting because mass media used to control the trends now it’s the internet, so I see wayyy more diverse styles

I totally agree that the “influencer” shift is happening. Many are not relatable. We are dealing with burnout, high cost of living, sexism, racism, etc. We want to be nourished by content not flexed on. We don’t want to feel ashamed of what we have and many influencers have that affect on people. It’s an unhealthy dynamic. I’m rooting for you and other channels that inform & offer new approaches to content 💯

I think the 2010’s in general was a really materialistic era where people were all about being famous just for being famous, flaunting wealth and consumerism. Then covid comes and screws up a lot of people’s lives and these materialistic posts make people annoyed at the privileged display of ignorance these individuals hold. People want something that’s different now instead of clout culture. In a world of thousands of wannabe influencers you have to do something that moves people in a way that others can’t do now, something wealth can never buy. I’m absolutely here for it.

The issue is, we say we want diversity but who’s actually checking for it? Most people scroll right pass anything that’s different. It’s nobody’s faults but consumers why there’s a lack of originality. The content is out there, but nobody cares because it’s not “aesthetically pleasing”

Right and also this is the whole point of influencing to get people to buy what you are buying…so ofc people are going to have similar/the same things or people are creating the same content if they see that’s what’s getting the most views. As the audience we chose who we watch these influencers become not relatable from people watching and continuing to put money in their pockets….

12:33 I'm a high-school senior, and it's honestly shocking on how the "influencer" niche has been around for this past decade and is consuming us. There's not really sterotypical cliques such as "Jocks, gangbangers, nerds, stoners, pill poppers (etc) They still are prevelent, but we're in a change of society from being communal to becoming individulastic and it's heartbreaking. So many niche clubs have faded into oblivion and being a loner [nothing wrong w that I'm a huge loner] has become more normal then ever. It makes sense because TikTok and "influencers" consume our time and energy instead of being social with one another.

I’m no longer in high school but I saw this starting to happen 7 years ago when I was. I feel like culturally a lot of people have shifted towards aesthetics rather than subcultures, like “insert whatever-Core.” It’s honestly unnerving to see this happening. I think people have lost a lot of the substance that they gain by being part of a subculture and they have moved into more individualistic pursuits. People are still as multi faceted as ever but if groups are mainly focused on aesthetic and image you are living a one dimensional existence in the public space, living for others perceptions. I think the internet unfortunately at this moment has made the focus on image more dominant than ever. There are still subcultures out there, I’m a part of the rave scene, and I think once you leave high school it gets easier to find your people. For me in high school it was “tumblr kids” but we weren’t all consumed by the internet just yet, according to what I’ve observed by listening to younger people. I’m wishing you luck in finding your people, they’re out there and it’s not all about appearance for everyone, shit just gets easier after high school

The problem is that most people nowadays make content only to get rich not because they have a passion for something. They lack talent, originality, personality. Completely agree, it’s also very apparent as to who has worked hard to maintain a genuine trust with their audience vs who will market anything to you, theres a small list of influencers i trust

I agree I agree and I agree! The girlies all got the same templates, the same brand deals, the same style, and it’s getting tired. Also i’d love to see you do a deep dive on the fall of “America’s Next Top Model” or Tyra Banks if you have any interest

Thank you Toni for dragging me down memory lane with screenshots of the influencers I use to look up to (still looking up to Jackie) 😂. But on a serious note, all of these are valid reasons for the influencer popularity decreasing. Especially the repetitive content for lifestyle vlogging. A month or two ago, I was studying those particular videos for inspiration but left frustrated due to how many were promoting flexing culture. Your analysis of this area of content creation has inspired me to be myself.❤

Everything was spot on. Everyone wants to be the same, and many influencers r very fraudulent. I’m all for content creating, showing ur talents, and expressing urself, but sadly many of these people only care about money and views. Side note: love ur videos! Keep striving!♥️

When you mentioned that everything is the same. Yes, omgggg. And the reels. If you like 1 reel because you like a the song, the IG will recommend a reel with the same song OVER AND OVER AGAIN, so that you immediately get annoyed with that song. Then you log into you TT, and that same song is on EVERY TT. Then you try and browse some reels again, and you’re recommended the same reel trends and the same content. You just can’t escape it. It’s exhausting.

I think it’s the fall of black/white influencers… I say this because still in the Hispanic community INFLUENCERS ARE HUGE!! Hispanics are extremely loyal and many times have the same styles and mindsets as other Hispanics which is why they are still huge in the Hispanic community and have a huge well influence on us

I stopped following them because now there are many on TikTok, I only followed a few. Because I don't like the way they handle this situation if you told them something they try to cancel it or they tell you. You are a hater and no. What happened to freedom of expression? A good critic is good to grow and that does not mean that you are a hater.

This is so true. The people I looked up to and followed on social media platforms are not the same people I see as my influence today. I have been way more into influencers or just people on social media period that have something with substance to share. Like about education or their faith. You are right, I think the shift in me (being a 2002 baby) is that I'm getting older and my priorities are different. Self love, security, peace and knowledge is way more important now than just looking like a "baddie" or rich.

Good evening everyone: I don't know how these ppl are called influencers..!! What are they actually influencing..?? I usually see alot these influencers that just influence fakeness, deceit, ego & extra insecure. I believe influencers are falling cuz some ppl just aren't here for that anymore, some of these influencers are egotistical, their literally manipulative. I hate that rushing thing. I've seen so many tutorials on sewing & hairstyles. And they just go so fast, person barely talks actually don't talk at all. Some ppl get so annoyed. I see in the comments " Why didn't they say anything or "How did she do that" or " Can we get some audio "...but you're so correct alot of influencers are talking about the same exact thing & posting similar stuff. Ppl don't want that. It's better to be different than the same.

I think the term influencer comes from the monetization aspect of the job. Most “influencers” are like a new version of the model or celebrity that market products to consumers. If you see 12 influencers that you follow promoting something like the Bloom Greens for example, because these seem like everyday people someone might be more influenced to buy it. I think a few years ago they had to pass a law declaring that influencers become more obvious about advertising product because the sneakiest advertisements are done without you knowing. So now influencers are also required to state whether or not they’re being sponsored by a brand before promoting their product (for the influencer and the audience’s protection)

Love this video ! Love all of your videos though! I agree with everything you said I am tired of watching influencers make it and then all of a sudden they feel like they have to flex on people. I use to follow a influencer out of Dallas and all of a sudden she stated that in 2023 she is about to basically start flaunting her wealth. She posted a bill of a dinner she took all of her friends on. I mean it's nice to see people make it but at the same time your followers work regular 9-5's and are in school trying to survive GIRL BYE.

It’s funny that you mention all the lifestyle influencers live in the same cities. I‘ve tried to search other locations and everything and it’s rare to find the black girls anywhere other than the places you mentioned. I’ve started a channel and due to me not being like everyone else it seems hard to start to gain a following 🤷🏾‍♀️ but it could be that I’m super busy and can’t upload all the time too. I have also been told by people that I have to have a “personality” to be an influencer and I’m like my personality is my personality I’m not going to do anything to act like someone I’m not soooo yea.

This! And that's why I really appreciate mom vlogs, especially the authentic "clean with me" content with actual messy homes, toys everywhere, real reviews of cleaning products that work and that you see them use over and over again because they like them. Moms with depression or PPD showing real postpartum life etc. But yeah, the "soft life" esthetic is getting tirrrrrrred!
