Storyboarding in photoshop feels like such a tedious job to me - Storyboard pro makes the process so seemless and easy to produce animatics (but I do miss the custom brushes of photoshop, so I would love to hear about how to board in Photoshop!!)

It can be wonky. I use it out of necessity, but I enjoy the flexibility it has and the brushes allow me look into the style of my project further.

I think SPA studio (Klaus) has gone full blender for pre-vis, boards, and animation. Less round-tripping to other software.
@robertkeaney99058 ай бұрын
@@NathanRitchie Story boarding in blender is actually really nice once you get the hang of it. On some projects I'll intentionally Put the frame rate at 30 fps. And then board at 3 or 6 fps. Creating a rough on every 5th frame or 10th frame on a Rough line layer. Then I render and export the story board when it's done. But instead of starting from scratch for the next phase of the project, I reuse the same file for the next phase of the project. Simply creating a new layer for the next stage of my animation. So if I need to look at the board again as reference I can just switch back to that layer. Having everything built into the same file has really helped my work flow. As it means I don't have to constantly switch back and forth between looking at my laptop and my monitor. Having the story board ready and accessible on the same file as my main project just makes everything go way smoother.

It's insane how quickly season two was confirmed... I think you might have some fans on the Netflix renewal board... That said, a lot of this actually reminds me of Cinderella's ballroom scene. It was revolutionary because the concept of what a formal ball looked like was not concrete in people's minds; they actually hired a bunch of trained ballroom dancers, set cameras up in a real rented ballroom, filmed the whole thing, then freakin' rotoscoped all of it as animation afterward. So they had to worry about a limited number of cameras and actual cinematography, too.

hell. yes. this is content is EXTREMELY helpful as film/animation student. Learning the nuances differences of animation to live action is very helpful. @swer91128 ай бұрын
When you were talking about following live action rules, and picturing a camera in 3D space, as someone who has always storyboarded with this mindset since my first attempt, its actually really interesting to realize that most people dont? I find it difficult to do a lot of childrens shows because the camera is difficult to imagine in real life. I guess they just werent picturing a camera at all...?
@pian-0g4458 ай бұрын
It’s not necessarily better or feasible. I defiantly do enjoy the ‘camera’ composition more but some things just work not being based in reality. Beauty of animation. Only limit is your imagination… and budget and time. There’s a reason many kids shows or more average tv show budget animations don’t or are always able to do realistic camera work. Not only does it require more time to consider besides just composition of the art, but also is usually more difficult to achieve with good quality. Not every animation gets this luxury. And if they don’t have time, but still achieve such quality, we’ll, bless the animators souls with their poor working conditions (e.g. chainsaw man. Looks incredible in motion with how it tries to be like a live action but animated, but was achieved with extremely poor conditions for animators, as is with other modern Mappa animes).
