Yet another Dark Forest reader here. This song is gorgeous and Cixin was genius for choosing it as one of the most standout heartbreaking moments in the book. I saw someone on Reddit did a deep dive on the books and their various translations, and found that the actual song Cixin Lui was intending to mention is actually Уральская рябинушка (Ural'skaya ryabinushka) But this song is just as beautiful and stunning 🥹 Hello to all of you past, present, and future, from February 11, 2024.

The original Chinese version and the entire story and characters were envisioned by Cixin Liu, who did not choose that song. What you read was an inherently altered version. So no. Translator made a mistake here. The song was supposed to be Ural Rowan Tree as it was in the original text. Would you trust the original author or the translator?
