I have one of these as well and ordered the 1984 reissue Floyd for it. It comes with a 37mm brass block and when installed on this guitar the brass block rest perfectly in the cavity against the wood. It doesn't pull back, it dives only. The trem lays perfectly level with the top of guitar. It really is an amazing perfect fit. It eliminates the need for the shims behind the tremolo. If you install this Floyd make sure you renove the shim beneath the saddles or your tremolo radius will be incorrect.
@tonlarj374 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I initially had the fat brass block on this one. It didn’t fit like you say yours did. I would have had to use shims either way. I took the brass block off and used it on a floating bridge. I don’t feel like I need it when the bridge is connected to the body. It’s cool yours was able to fit like that. When I get the time. I may take the neck off and check to see if it’s been shined there. And, yes. I had to remove the shims under the saddles to achieve the proper radius.
@jeffmoore62794 жыл бұрын
@@tonlarj37 I took the neck off mine awhile back to see if my neck had shims as well. It did not. Perhaps our brass blocks differ slightly in some way. Anyway, love these old school guitars. Like to see another run of these in a different color.

I have the Henrik Danhage limited edition SC-1 and you’re right about the neck. The speed neck is not the same on these SC-1 type guitars. … they are better in my opinion. I tried a MJ charvel just recently with the so called speed neck and my limited SC_1 in back to back comparisons and there’s definitely a difference. The so called speed neck on the MJ charvel is chunkier and wider ,not as comfortable. I have fairly big hands too. But I prefer to be able to wrap my thumb over the neck in a Hendrix type style of playing. So the MJ got returned. Thanks for your video. You just confirmed it for me. And you sounded great. I love my SC-1. Mine has a JB in the bridge and a dimarzio in the neck. It came with a case at least.

Whats your preference for a”setup”? Specs plz?
@tonlarj374 жыл бұрын
CONSCIOUS•OPPRESSION I simply just start with setting the neck strait. Then, Lower the bridge for desired action/string height. (It varies on each guitar) intonate and fine-tune adjustments until it feels the way I want it. It’s a feel thing. I’ve been doing this so long.... I rarely use measuring tools anymore. So.... Sorry man, I don’t have the specs. Also, I initially used a tremolo stopper... which helps. But, then added the spacers to connect to the body to dive only. Makes it easier to deal with. Hope that somewhat helps. ✌️🤘

Nice to watch a really good review for a change. Have a few custom Charvels my self -and like 'em a lot. But: I think theese new Mexican Charvels are WAY overpriced! I mean they're good; but hey: $1500 for a taco built guitar with a 1000 series Floyd -without hardcase...? That is just a bit too steep pricing from Charvel. I can also confirm what is mentioned in this review: Swapping out the 1000-series Floyd -for a better Floyd -style unit: Is a big uppgrade. Expessionally if You also upgrade the trem with a sustainblock. In this vid; more mass on the unit was achieved by piling up shims between the baseplate -and the block. But in truth; you'll accually get a much better resonance/tonal result with a rightlength sustain block -compared to the multi shim thing. As a tech/luthiere i've been asked to dig out more tone out of theese things. The by far most effective -and easy part; is to upgrade the trem unit. Now to the big suprice in finding the correct new trem unit for this guitar: Theese Charvel necks have a compund radius 12-16". This means that if You want the perfect match: You'll need to look for a trem unit that has a "16 radius. The orginal Floyd Rose has a "12 radius. However: The new (extra hardened steel) Schaller Lockmeister Floyd offers a correct "16 inch radius. Incredible enough; the German Schaller manufacturor posts wrong product info about their Lockmeister unit. (If the multi shim under the A, D, G and B string saddles is removed: The unit offers the correct 16 inch radius.) Another alternative is the EDGE tremolo; found on Ibanez guitars. This unit that offers a 17" radius. With this said: A 12" radius trem unit will work fine too. But if You really want the optimal match for optimal performance; 16" radius bridge is to be prefered. The people at Schaller are a bit thick headed dummies: They persist on; not to correct their false info at their own site. A classic qoute -in their own words from this German manufacturor on the Lockmesiter trem unit: Qoute: "the radius of the saddles is 12"; if you put the shim under the saddles away you get 16". End quote. Please read this qoute with Your best german accent. LOL
