Love the pricing on the mij stuff. Also for the Prashant aswani guitar. The biggest surprise with that guitar is that Prashant didn't put his signature EMG revelation set in it. But over all love what charvel is doing. Still holding out for a dk24 hardtail with the roasted maple neck and board.

Pao Ferro fretboards are a great alternative to rosewood, the grain is tight close to ebony and it has its own exotic color.
@guyincognito320
@guyincognito320 Жыл бұрын
It should be used for acoustics. Looks wise it's like roasted maple with a lot of busy figuring/striping. To me it looks acoustic not electric. The fact that it doesn't have the heavy grain of rosewood doesn't matter because it's got such a waxy feel with a lot of drag. Maybe it could be okay with extra jumbos where you rarely touch wood but with medium jumbo you feel it all the time.
@simonp9471
@simonp9471 Жыл бұрын
@@guyincognito320 I actually really like it on my EVH Shark. It looks and feels great with the burgundy & silver. I usually favor ebony on most of my guitars. My 1986 Jackson/Charvel has a nice dark rosewood slab on it. All of my guitars have different tonewoods & pickups, but I'm surprised how little I care. As long as a guitar has a cool vibe and plays well - I'm all for it 😁

I've owned 2 different Showmasters, one of which was a 7, and the other of which was formerly painted as the Skull&Bones look. Both were fairly heavily customized when I got them, and all of the customization was gloriously, shamelessly tasteless. Reasonable quality on that series, but owners seem to love using them as mod platforms. They both played great, but I always feel like I have to give excuses for how they look, since they're shaped like such a classic model, but the owners (myself included) have just gone hog-wild on saying "Yes" to every aesthetic modification idea that popped into their heads.

The Charvel necks are a big selling point, they feel fantastic, and those new Japanese ones look amazing. I'd love to get more Charvel's, as I love mine. I've only charged a couple of things on the guitar, I don't like the knobs, as I use them a lot, and I like to know where I am. And the trem, the 1000 series is made of dog pooh, so I've had a Schaller lockmiester fitted, is much better. About from that, the guitars great!

Fun fact: about 4 years ago I leaked a guitar made for slash to Troglys it was the Bolivian dream because I happen to know the guy who runs the company that sells to Gibson custom shop all the south American woods (Ronay Tonewoods) and back then I told Austin that Bolivian Rosewood it is actually a commercial name for pau ferro. So, Hunter, if you don't see the name Pau Ferro Bering used that often anymore it is because the industry started to call the it Bolivian Rosewood. But it is the same thing.

What I like about the Charvel is the San Dimas guitars they have become like a Strat or Tele never out of style. Zero redundancy. They are like Levis 501 jeans and Converse all Stars shoes. You never look foolish wearing them no matter what the latest style is. With everything else it is planned obsolescence, especially guitars. In stores the should all have a warning tag hanging from them. This guitar is subject to iPhone-itus, buy carefully, lol

I'm going to say it. It's time for Squier to do another collab with Sanrio. The meme is as popular as ever, the timing is good, Aggretsuko just ended and could be part of it, and most importantly: The Squier Sonic series is the perfect platform for such a collab. Go even bigger than the two models the first time around. They'll absolutely sell.

Hunter, I'm old-school enough to remember Charvel and Jackson as a guitar company independent of Fender. I think that when I got the first of my Charvels, the company was called Jackson/Charvel. (At least, that nomenclature appeared on the headstock of that guitar. Jackson was the high-end segment of the company, while Charvel was more second tier. This made sense back then, as Wayne Charvel had sold his firm to Grover Jackson, and Grover was running the place. OF COURSE he put his own name on the good stuff. Cut to the present and Charvel guitars are so far out of my range as to be beyond aspirational! Jackson, however, I've gotten -- once. Best neck I have! Beats the living HELL out of my almost-TOO-Fender-like Donner DST-400s. Yes, plural -- I got two. Might mean I have to buy another Jackson ...🤔😎

I have one from that era! I got it at such a good price used. It needed some work (new kahler bridge and a fretboard chip repair), but it cleaned up so nicely and plays well now. It cost me $1000aud all up, or around $650usd. I thought about selling, but I wouldn't be able to replace this one easily, so it stays. MIJ is quite expensive now 😆

i wish they were 1799€ in germany. due to some customs and import stuff, they're a grand more. 2799€ is msrp, thomann sells them at 2300€ street price. it's crazy to me, because usually the US and German prices are the same, just switch the $ for € and you're good to go, but for some stupid reason not in this case. it drives me mad, cause i wanted one of these. i went to my local store and the guy responsible for aquisition even called the european fender distribution, cause we both thought it's was just a typo that they went from 1.799 to 2.799 in msrp, but no, it's the real price.

The feel of a fingerboard material stopped mattering to me once I was able to stop using a deathgrip on the neck. If I'm in the groove, I don't rally touch the fingerboard at all. Unless, of course, it's my Epi from the 60's. Those frets are DONE! lol The only fingerboard I'll hold no truck with is glossed maple. When my fingers do touch it, it feels sticky and gross. I also take the gloss finish off guitar necks when they come stock with it. My Brent Hinds signature V is probably worthless now, but at least it's comfortable to play. I've almost bought Charvel's old light blue Dinky about 1,000 times, and I keep deciding not to because of the nickel frets and trem/nut combo. Stainless steel frets and either fixed bridge or locking nut would have that thing in my hands as quickly as Sweetwater or GC can ship it to me. Really don't know why they're doing nickel frets. It's like Ibanez insisting on keeping non-locking tuners on their high-end guitars. Why do?
