I think Slice really wants people to adopt "their open standard" because of the bad press last year when they went after Vez3D for his volcano-like hotend design for patent infringements and ill-will in the Voron community at large. Sure, I understand patent enforcement and I do respect patents as a whole. But I think the time and effort of enforcement hasn't been a good return on investment for them. Yes, other companies have joined in this open source standard but this standard only applies to nozzles and threading within the block attachment -- something already established before there was a Slice Engineering company.

I wonder why people still refer to filament speed in mm/s and not in volumetric units?
@GeddyRC6 күн бұрын
If I had to guess, it's better for marketing, perhaps?
@kilianlindlbauer82776 күн бұрын
Neither of them are useful. You might get 25mm3/s on a bambu if its a high speed filament, meanwhile i get double of that since i have a rapido uhf. The only good measurement would be melt flow index, basically how runny a filament is at a certain temperature, which is btw in the data sheets included most of the time
@SwervingLemon4 күн бұрын
@@kilianlindlbauer8277 How is it not useful? It's the only metric that literally describes exactly how much filament you're actually depositing. Genuine question, I'm not being snarky. Is there a better way to describe extrusion rate?
@petercallison57654 күн бұрын
@@kilianlindlbauer8277 When say you get double 25mm3/s we know what that means, but yes, they need to specify filament type as well as temperature. You get faster prints with poorer bonding at higher temps.
@petercallison57653 күн бұрын
@@SwervingLemon Acceleration is also very important for speed. If you watch aurora tech then she has some standard models she prints for every printer she tests which gives a good indication, but she does not adjust setting to see what the maximum speed is. It would be a lot of work to do it correctly and is probably not worth the effort for most reviewers. A great example is the Creality Ender 3 V3 SE where people have been getting the same speed as the supposedly much faster KE model just by using the KE profile.

@@thenextlayer That’s a shame, but if the september 20th announcement is interesting, i’d love to see it covered here. Qidi being the second company after Creality to announce a next-gen flagship this year bodes well. Here’s hoping it keeps all the good features of the Q1 Pro, adds an MMU and runs mainline klipper at 300x300x300. Not sure how Bambu will compete with Qidi if they manage those features within their usual lower price.

Hey, great video. I own a P1S and haven’t been shy about modding it a bit - new LED strip lights, replacement control panel (XTouch), and the WhamBam bed (to come). Am considering a quick swap, higher flow nozzle. So I have to ask, for a hobbyist, do these type of printer upgrades really make that much a difference for the added cost?
@SouthernWolff6 күн бұрын
No - typically not, honestly. Led strips and touchscreen control panel are just Qol upgrades that don't actually enhance the printer outside of cosmetics. Higher flow nozzles are all well and good but you open a new can of worms in calibrating filaments. New beds can be nice, especially if they work as advertised, but the stock BL beds are pretty solid.
@thenextlayer6 күн бұрын
Depends on the person, what they print, and which upgrade. I don’t think flow is lacking on the Bambu printers, but I really enjoy the revo quick swap… makes life much easier.

Silly question about bigtreetech. I win the Revo hotend for the P1S from your livestream. Haven’t installed it yet. In your opinion is it worth it? Love Sunlu filament and use it all the time for all family and friend projects.

Why are there still no decent third party hotends with changeable cht nozzles for the A1 series? I tried a third party one with changeable nozzles but the manufacturers use different threads or sizes, don't know. You can't interchange. The print was decent, the hotend cooler was running wild, but temperature was kinda stable. Which shocked me for the price. Paid 7,50€ for one with a hardened steel nozzle, sleeve and a pack of three extra nozzles. Just got every hotend size available by Bambu and will wait if third party ones will get better than the original ones.
