I feel like maybe I’m alone on this, but the most important part about frame rate for me is that is it consistent throughout the experience, not necessarily 30 vs 60. If the game is fun, visually appealing, and has a decent soundtrack, that’s enough for me

I’m very excited for those Max Payne remakes but we could definitely still use a brand new entry in the series. I went back to Max Payne 3 on my Steam Deck a few months ago and it still has some of the best gunplay of any game out there

We managed to play light ball Tennis with Ganon in OoT at 15fps. People will be fine with a stable 30fps in Paper Mario

And the ps3 had the opportunity to install themes as well. Man the ps3 is really more forward thinking than each generation thereafter. It had cd ripping, easier media playback off usb without loading an app, ability to get those rip cds back onto a USB, use any pic as a background and more. My ps3 is still connected as I still use it. So it’s funny going between my ps5 and ps3 and just scrolling around.

We just passed the 3 year anniversary of Returnal so we should be getting close to the reveal of their next game. Returnal was a 4 year dev cycle so if they're doing a sequel, it should be a similar time frame.

For you maybe but the original is 60fps and the super guard time and normal guard time and other action commands is based on the frame rate just because it’s an rpg doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter

@@azeria1 the guard action commands respond at a 60 FPS interlace in the game so you don’t need to worry. It’ll be easier than ever to use those commands in battle. Frame has nothing to do with it.

​@@azeria1 The actual frames of the action commands are more important than the overall framerate itself. The simplifier and unsimplifier badges can make it easier or harder, sometimes visual fps and actual gameplay fps aren't tied together. Power Bounce and Multibonk have random caps on bosses and can't be done infinitely even with proper timing, which is why you might still see an Excellent on a Bounce that doesn't continue. In Bowser's Inside Story DX, it's much more consistent getting solo Excellent attacks than the original despite being only 30fps. People really need to look more in-depth on how frames actually work instead of just complaining about a lower cap for the sake of it.

Me too but I still believe they should have tried harder to match the old game like Metroid Prime Remastered did. At least offer a 60fps mode that reduces the graphics. Also TTYD being at full price for less performance (granted looking far better) is a harder pill to swallow than MPR which was the same performance and far better visuals for half the price of most games.. I'll wait till its on sale.

The language is vague and not specific, this way they can hide losses and maintain some modicum of control, which is ironic because they own the IP "Control". As someone who has played the original release of TTYD- even though 60 fps is always preferable, I am awed at the reimagined world that they achieved on Switch. The visual effects are stunning, and they really honed in on the handmade aesthetic that they achieved in Origami King and Color Splash. I would prefer the visuals versus performance in this case. This might be a hot take, but I truly don’t think performance really matters in this kind of game anyway!

Agreed. I do notice the difference, but I just don't care, it effectively plays the same. 30 FPS as compared to 60 or more also saves battery life on a handheld device, which is much more important imo.

A Fallout: Re-Vault trilogy with Fallout 3-4 would be an awesome launch title and I'd be all for it. Even cooler is if they had the first two Fallout games as like bonus games. The first two games aren't large they would just have to make the first two accessible with a controller.

Feels like the season was designed to be binged, the first few episodes were all just building up questions for the viewer. I’m sure a lot of people would’ve just been confused.. also some episodes being shorter than others would’ve been disappointing on those weeks. I personally would’ve watched either way but I know not everyone enjoys that. Maybe next season could be weekly? 👀

Reaching 'production' doesn't mean it is the final stage before it is launched. It means they are confident in the concept and will produce the game following whatever they came up with during ideation. It is the same concept as 'production' in the movie/tv industry

It's like these devs think they have to have everything be as high fidelity as possible. I know lowering resolution is an infamous thing on the switch there's no excuse for having a ground up remake like this and not making it with 60fps in mind from the start. Nintendo has shown numerous times in this generation that they can do 60fps even on their most graphically impressive Mario titles. I'm baffled that Mario RPG was 60fps but they chose to make a game all about paper and geometric cardboard 30fps Not even a performance mode. Yet they erroneously chose to have one clip of the reveal trailer play at 60fps which seems to indicate that the game could indeed run at 60fps. I blame the fact that Nintendo chooses to underclock the hell out of their system even though they have games of their own and other developers using slight overclocks to make their games load faster or run better. You can say it's battery life but honestly I think they're being way too paranoid about it. The V2 switches are especially equipped for higher clocks because of their efficiency but are totally unutilized

Choosing visual fidelity over fps makes a lot of sense when you look at it in the context of next gen patches. If a successor really is coming, and is going to support DLSS in addition to more power, then it absolutely makes sense to prioritize fidelity over fps for games that you plan on making next gen patches for. It’s much cheaper and easier to make a next gen patch that just unlocks 60fps, then to make a next gen patch that polishes up assets and effects.

With the Paper Mario controversy it was expected. Baten Kaitos HD also runs worse than the Game Cube version but in this case I think the blame is on the devs because they also screw up many other things for example animations and other stuff.

In a perfect world, a new Fallout game or spinoff that captures the essence of the series would've been available to purchase & play when the show was released. Just how in a perfect world Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 would've released the same week as Avengers Endgame or Super Mario Bros Wonder or a side Mario game, even on mobile, would've been released alongside the Super Mario Bros Movie movie.

I have zero interest in the Fallout games but I would totally watch the Fallout TV series if I had Amazon Prime as I've heard good things about it. Sadly, even though I've had access to Prime for the past 10 years or so I had to drop it this year as the increased price finally became too much and it was pointed out that we order very few things from Amazon nowadays with funds being tighter. Regardless, I am glad to hear that the show seems to have sparked renewed interest in the IP just as the Last of Us HBO show did the same for that franchise and has definitively proven that video game IPs can make for great TV shows and movies if done well.

I tried in the past, but 16 year old me couldn't contain myself and killed everything on screen and couldn't leave the first town because I kept dying. Why is it always a choice between steady 30fps and unsteady 60fps? Why can't they do a steady 40fps or 50fps if they can't do 60fps?

I know we always talk about the current Switch games coming out on the new hardware to have a patch for 60FPS. I can also see Nintendo re-releasing these games at full price with 60FPS or better fidelity; example Zelda games. A reckon lot of people will re-buy this game and will probably set off a trend; Paper Mario could also be one of these games

Yeah I can go without it. But It takes roughly 2 years and that content is no longer "hot" enough to find other options where I ess p's no longer send threats if you try to download them from black water.

There was certainly a route Nintendo could have taken to get TTYD running at 60 fps on switch. Maybe they would have had to make a new engine instead of using unreal or unity? Maybe they could have done a port instead of a remake? Maybe they could include the original as an unlockable via emulation? The reason TTYD runs at 30fps rather than 60 fps on switch was purely down to choice, preference, and convenience. The used a third party engine (I think?), and chose to enable certain visual effects for fidelity rather than performance.

Ive NEVER agreed with "30FPS is better than a framerate jumping from 40-60FPS" 30FPS is objectively less than the 40FPS lowest of the unlocked framerate in that example, this means, 100% of the time the game is running worse than the worse case scenario of the other option, the other option is only bad at some points, and when its bad its still better than 30FPS. Yes, "frame drops are noticeable" I know, but 30FPS IS ALSO NOTICEABLE SO ITS A MOOT POINT.

I'm still rather bothered by the 30fps Paper Mario thing. If this had a notable visual boost from the GameCube version I could understand. If it had something like realtime lighting, proper screen space reflections, and high resolution texture, then fine. However, this looks like an upres with a few minor graphical effects. I smell low effort port (on the part of Nintendo as the publisher, not the developers). It seems to me that Nintendo just wanted to get this one out and not spend a lot of money on it because it is near the end of the life of the Switch.

It'd be a different story if the original was made with that in mind, but they downgraded it to 30fps from 60fps for a remake on a newer console. It's embarrassing, but the switch is embarrassing so it makes sense.

I'm not sure I'll ever understand why some people have to have their frame rates at 60fps or better. Nobody was talking about this stuff in the 80s and 90s and even into the 2000s. It wasn't until the early 2010s all of a sudden this got brought up. I mean, hey, if the only way you can enjoy the game is if it's running at 60 fps or better more power to you. For me, if it's fun then it's fun. Who cares about frame rates? When Doom first came out if we get our PC to remotely play it at 360 by whatever then we were good to go. That thing probably ran at 15 to 20 fps on our 386, but we didn't care. I just don't get it. Especially for an RPG.

Pretty much in the 8bit and 16bit era console games were 60fps (except Europe and some regions with 50hz bullshit) it wasn't until the 3D era started that we saw games being stuck on 30fps for the most part (Europe was around 25fps with drops again 50hz instead of 60hz) it wasn't until the Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube and Xbox that in Europe we started to having the 60hz mode selection in many games so we could enjoy the 30fps/60fps like in America and Japan.

People complain about Nintendo’s UI for the Switch, but consistency helps define a console, and seeing Xbox struggle so hard to create a pleasing UI just makes me appreciate my Switch even more. Sure, I want themes, but I won’t downplay my love for the Switch’s dark mode

You don't need to have a 120 hz screen to see the advantages of 40 or more fps vs 30 fps. I've never had a 120 hz screen and I would always choose 40 or 45 fps over 30 fps (if my PC/phone could do it). It's way better. In fact, I play Genshin Impact on my 60 hz screen phone at a capped 45 fps. Much smoother than 30 fps.

You can play Paper Mario TYD with a GameCube hooked with retro tink 4K if have the Nintendo Component cable and get it upscaled to 4K and looks and plays amazing on a 77 OLED

I want to play Paper Mario, but I'm not willing to jump through all the hoops this guy just listed when I could just buy a copy for Switch. Tracking down a GC, an og copy of TYD, and then buying the equipment to upscale would cost me.... lots of dollars. More than the 50-60 I expect to pay for the Switch remaster.
