About this video: On April 17, 2024, I spent the morning east of Chicago along Norfolk Southern’s Chicago Line in Gary, Indiana. The particular location that I was at for the morning was along Clark Road, which is a point where several rail lines and yards cross the road parallel to each other. As a result of this, there are multiple grade crossings right next to each other along Clark Road. Due to their close spacing, parts of all 3 of these crossings must activate whenever a train comes, including the crossings where there may not be a train coming right at that time - this prevents vehicles from becoming trapped on any of the tracks in case an additional train should come while one is already going by (a frequent occurrence throughout the 2 hours that I spent here). Trains were very frequent, and I did my best to capture both the interesting rail operations and the unique crossing setup at this location.
