I recall how Tony was amused at how Bobby was dressed in the beginning of this. He's the only one dressed properly for being out in the woods.
@DemocratsareagentsofSATAN3 жыл бұрын
in the behind the scenes episodes, you find out why Tony was actually laughing so hard at Bobby's outfit.... he was wearing a huge black dildo around his waist......of course, WE the audience don't see that....but that's why he was laughing......look it up...true story.... James Gandolfini was apparently having a rough day....and he told Steve Schirripa "you better make me laugh in the next scene" So Steve asked someone on the crew to find him a huge black dildo..................................................

I guy already said it about Bobby having a dildo in his pants and Tony AKA James Gandolfini RIP 🙏had a great sense of humour the behind the scenes thing remembering James Gandolfini showed that when Lorraine Braco DR.MELFI said he left a gift for her in her trailor I think it was some kind of sex toy it was funnyman and what an actor.

Well he did apologize and say it couldn’t be helped. What more did Tony want?!? Seriously though, he’s mad because in his mind this wasn’t his problem in the first place and he was stuck doing someone else’s (Sil’s) collection. Now Tony is telling him if this guy crawls out from under a pine tree and comes back to start trouble that Paulie is on his own and Tony’s not going to war with Russian Mob or whomever this guy is connected with to save his ass. Tony also likely knows (through Sil) that this should’ve been an easy collection and that Paulie screwed it up by antagonizing the guy.

He’s upset about his lot in life. He is, as he said, half-a-wiseguy. Middle management in the mob, in the game longer than most of his peers, and still rolling around in the dirt with nothing to show for it. @menopassini93484 жыл бұрын
So do many Sopranos fans. This pissed off Chase. This episode writer Winter who wrote many of the series best liked stories wanted to do a follow up for the fans. Chase agreed at first then changed his mind. This vignette was going to be in the final episode, which many fans found disappointing and anticlimactic. This was the scene and plot line behind it. The Injured Russian is found laying in the snow by Boy Scouts and their troop leaders. They call the phone number that they find in the injured Russian's pocket. The Russian mob boss comes out and brings him to the hospital for brain surgery then sends him to recover in Russia. Yrs later Tony and Christopher go see the Russian M. Boss and the Big Russian is sweeping the floor not recognizing Christopher because of the damage from the head shot. A lot of holes in that scene, like isn't Christopher dead by then. Why not call the ambulance first, where were the cops w/ gun shot wound victim and who took Paulie's car. Should be injuried Russian circled around took Paulie's car and hooked up with his Boss. The Big disabled Russian sweeping the floor would made the final show more interesting and bring closure.
@Pochonesian4 жыл бұрын
I don’t think every event NEEDS closure. That’s what makes the show great and REAL. Things in life don’t always end with us having the answers. They bring up the Russian many times after this and it helped build the tension between Chris and Paulie. The fact that no one (including us) knew what happened to him gave a feeling of uneasiness. Like he could show up at any time. Theorizing what happened is fun to me. I also like to imagine what Ercoli DiMeo was like. The boss before Jackie Aprile. Referred to as “the old man”. Chances are he was still alive in prison by the last season. He was just a little older than Junior. I wonder why no one ever spoke to him or about him. Jackie couldn’t have been acting boss that long... even Carmine Sr. Never mentioned him.

@@darth856 yes, you understand. That unwritten take was then incorporated by the writers going forward - Tony laughed at Bobby's outfit. That's why there is another scene where he references laughing at Bobby. So Tony (not Gandolfini) laughed at Bobby (not Schirripa). Its canon.

i have watched this episode several times. i think the fact that its partly a bottle episode makes it unique throughout the entire show. Two wise guys in the woods,lost and scared. It is a deep character exploration.What do people do when they are taken out of their element? Its all revealed in this episode. What happens when there is a communication breakdown and orders cannot be given to people used to taking them? Eg the bad phone reception throughout the episode.absolutely amazing.

The thing is he had no leadership potential. The one thing he was good for was doing what Tony told him, and in this case he failed to do that.

Chase finally got fed up with everyone asking about the Russian (he doesn't believe that everything needs to have closure or that the audience should know everything that happened) and gave his estimation of what happened to him. Long story short, if they ever needed to use the Russian mob in the story again Paulie and Chrissy would walk into the Russian mob bosses office to find the guy cleaning Shlauba's floors. Complete with a nasty head wound, speech impediment and no recollection of what happened to him. So yeah the Russian lives

With the wide spread theory that Paulie and/or Patsy made a deal with Butch to take out Tony in the final episode, I think the seeds for that dissent began here with Paulie. He saw how little value Tony showed him, and the actor playing Paulie says a lot with his face without saying it out loud…

I remember watching this episode live in high school. Never getting a resolution to this plot was so frustrating but was sort of a coming of age moment for me. And it definitely foreshadowed the series finale.

The singer at the end is singing about how she is a loving wife but scorned by her husband. The same song opens the very next episode, while Carmella weeps over a painting of St. Catherine marrying Jesus. The lyrics fit both her situation and Paulie's: faithful to Tony, but scorned by him.

Fun fact: The original plan was for the Russian guy to come back in a later season as a "mafia, serial killer" lot of low end to second main characters were said to be killed off, and the mystery would have spanned a whole season or two. The murders would have hit every major family in the show leading to all the families on the verge of war because they keep accusing each other of the murders. Unfortunately the idea was dropped and instead added as an Easter egg when Christopher befriends that writer that is making a movie about a "mafia serial killer"

Does anybody want to know the meaning behind Tony telling Pauly: "You got mayo on your chin." (?) 1. Tony was letting Pauly know: "I'm watching you CLOSELY for slip up's even when you're not aware of it." 2. "You made yourself look ridiculous to your Boss, which is STILL Me. If you make another mistake, it's not gonna get past me." 3. Pauly really DID have Mayo on his chin.

These guys were an insult to the Mafia. It was Paulie who started this whole nonsense when he broke Valery's universal remote. Chrissy had the money in his hand, but it was because of Paulie that this entire thing happened. In fact both of these guys were the most whackable characters on the show. Paulie with his incessant chattering & Chrissy with his narcotics issue. You need people who are efficacious soldiers in your family.

The vast majority of prison inmates test at or just above mental retardation. The criminal element is not populated by brilliant people. Brilliant people can become a success in legitimate ways. So the pool of people any criminal enterprise is drawing from is going to be full of morons to begin with. The mafia is and always has been a group of fuck ups and incompetents. I think this is one thing the Sopranos did well. Depicted them as a bunch of idiots who survive by a combination of ruthlessness, police incompetence/indifference and dumb luck. When the luck runs out, they have little in the way of skills/intelligence to survive the fallout.
