I always feels like Butchie’s acting is overlooked in this scene. 1) He acknowledges Tony as a boss and tries to counsel him; 2) He’s equally fearful of Tony as a boss that can kill him; and 3) Provides him a final warning not to do the intended act despite the threat to his life. I always find Butchie’s acting very compelling.

Not only will the other family not do shit about it, they may end up disciplining him more in some form or fashion for breaking a rule. In real life, at least back in the day that was a death sentence. Not just his family but his daughter. That was almost always a death sentence.

This scene is a big reason why I think Butch was involved in Tony's death. It's hard to imagine that he forgot this, even if he was content to let Tony take out Phil.
@jglitch03 жыл бұрын
Butch didn't have the look of someone who was very invested in the guy getting the shit kicked out if him, think reaction time on Carlos after sil hit the dude with the vacuum(that's the kind of reaction you're going to get if one if your guys is getting the shit kicked out of him or you're kicking the shit out of someone ) could've easily ran his fork through the back of Tony's neck since he didn't turn until butch spoke up(obviously he wouldn't have as that's a boss with a legit beef). Butch sounded like he was counseling Tony as opposed to reprimand him because as soon as daughters get involved the other guy is in the wrong 100% of the time especially when it's the boss of of another family's wife or daughter big no no in the mafia. Besides I distinctly remember reading in interviews way back when the directors intent was not to think Tony died but that his life was over and what we saw was the last minutes of normalcy before he was arrested tried and convicted because Carlo was ratting to save his son. Literally everyone from the show except his Son and daughter has a genuine reason to want to kill him, it could have been literally anyone including Paulie(if we go with the thought he got clipped instead). The death scene they wrote for Tony was under the bridge with Johnny Sack, decided not to go with that and wanted to wrap up the story instead. ALSO butch was a pussy through out the show he always had other people do his bidding and would always suck up to who he thought was going to be the next power house. I think there were a couple instances of made guys pointing guns or beating eachother until they got hospitalized yet it never went further, since it was ball breaking or anger. Chris pointing a gun at Patsy etc. Shit where I work I've let people live who've pointed weapons at me or made threats because either the threat wasn't real(to me, probably not intelligent but it keeps me out of trouble) or I knew they wouldn't last a second against me haha. It's strange the things we can walk away and laugh about later and yet how one event can send someone on an angry homicidal path leaving carnage behind. Butch was no different he learned not to get involved that very moment. An aside if anyone were to have Tony clipped the only people who would be able to carry out with that would be from his crew or from the commission. I really don't think anyone took him out I think that fade to black was a great representation of what he had ahead of him, nothingness, crime paid and it didn't, he had no friends, all of his crew had turned witnesses or became fertilizer, his wife hated him, his kids were indifferent and removed from his life for the most part, but he had all the money and toys he worked for, so what was in store for the remainder? Prison and death and everything would be taken by the feds so nothing for his family. His life was over regardless if he died or not hence the show was too.

Tony has a legitimate beef here.

@@ej11481 I understand. But that was because the war was on. It everything here is legitimate. Even the gun pointing. Tony is a Boss period. And Coco violated rules. In reality Coco would also be dead.
@ej114813 жыл бұрын
@@food4j That's debatable - there's a difference between punching a guy because he made a lewd remark to your daughter and curb-stomping him. But regardless of how you or I see it, Butch clearly felt that Tony crossed a line, as shown by how he was warning Tony. And he didn't like Tony much to begin with.

This was easily one of or the best acted (hats off to the legendary JG) and definitely the most justified acts of violence that Tony has ever done. Its relatable to any father protecting his daughter and for Tony we all know that Meadow is the one he loves and is proud of the most. Its Ironic that of all the slights that Tony did to Phil either personally (chasing him down and causing him to smash his car into a bus) or indirectly (his brother Billy, whatever happened there) that this was the one that had Phil choose to decapitate and do business with whats left

@Gunners_Mate_Guns3 жыл бұрын
Looked like a J-frame Smith & Wesson, probably a .38 Special, but he swung it around so much that it was tough to identify it better. FWIW, small guns require considerably more skill to wield properly than normal full sized guns. It's much tougher to hit the target accurately, and the recoil is much stouter compared to a full sized gun in the same caliber.

@@olgierdolo5510 Yes It's one model or another of the dozens of models of Smith & Wesson revolvers using the J-frame, the smallest of the four basic revolver frames that S&W uses. Most revolvers built on the J-frame hold only five rounds, and by far the most popular caliber for their revolvers on that frame are in .38 Special.
