Much of the 'Culture War' we see in the UK today is due to the Equalities Act which came about through the Blair/Brown government. It created statutory obligations on all arms of the government and also private sector to make 'reasonable adjustments' for those on a Caste System of protected characteristics. From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs - is from the Communist Manifesto. The Equalities Act is essentially designed on this premise for social services (opposed to specifically economic). This results in arms of government such as the NHS 'reasonably adjusting' their services, for example Migrants with the aim to achieve the same health outcome as those who have been in the country their whole life. Politician's then seem to get sensitive about chants of a two tier system. This harvest was originally sown by Blair. Until such legislation is repealed and replaced with an up to date Bill of Rights and Constitution, the country will maintain is current Neo-Communist trajectory. He has fatally damaged the constitution of the nation which initiated the modern era.

Great interview. I think TB did miss an important point about the numbers out of work. The working classes are exhausted, disillusioned, and overwhelmed. Capitalism isn't working for them. They do everything right; go to work, play by the rules, pay their taxes only then to end up using food banks, not being able to afford the basics. Social media has a lot to answer for too. Mental ill-health is real today for sure and these are the reasons. Yes we have choice when it comes to jobs but are they well paid, fulfilling or do they just line the pockets of shareholders and reinforce the idea we are just cogs in the 1%'s wheel keeping the wealthy and powerful in their penthouses?

Tony Blair was so right with what he said at the beginning - politicians leave without sharing what they have learned, that for me is a total waste of what could be valuable knowledge. Plus it is also rare that any MP is put in charge of a dept they have prior knowledge of running, which is absurd.

Always interesting to see how you can get to the human behind the public persona. I have spent a lifetime as a foot soldier trying to get my idea of decent MPs elected - which has resulted in huge admiration for 90% of ALL parties, who work hard, are smart, decent human beings trying their best for the electors. And 100 times better than the sneering, hypocritical, stupid "commentators" critics, many even with hindsight, not having a clue about anything mildly complex. As for choosing, too often needed, between several awful alternatives - just forget it!

Completely exposed by that pathetic definition of AI at the beginning. ChatGPT is narrow AI that works off massive data sets of >HUMAN< work and hallucinates answers based off them. No more groundbreaking than the infuriating chat bots we've had to deal with from services like Amazon or Apple (which of course are remarkable at cutting inefficiency for tech giants). The way he talks about the NHS is genuinely disgusting. Tony's grand vision for our health service is open the door to these software companies to replace consultations with chat bots to misdiagnose our conditions. No doubt this tech derangement is fueled by his son's Silicon Valley investments. The biggest problem facing Western developed countries is the drop in living standards fueled by growing wealth inequality, don't buy into this nonsense continuation of sticking plaster politics.

@jonathanbowen3640 13 күн бұрын
Chat bots are nothing like chatgpt. AI isn't a "sticking plaster". Its absolutely fundamental to society and will be rapidly increasingly so over the next decades Also growth inequality doesn't mean automatically mean drop in living standards. Some of the nations with the highest inequalities actually have really high living standards. Singapore, Taiwan, Sweden, Finland are all more unequal by some metrics than the UK, yet have mostly higher standards of living. Additionally by Gini coefficients the UK doesn't have that much income inequality out of the "high income" countries standards. You comment is just a few buzz words, some emotion, lots of arrogance but you have next to no actual understanding of the subjects.

Why all this talk? Action is required. AI could be part of the solution, but the last two computer installations in the NHS failed to improve healthcare, but cost mega bucks. Why not recruit retired medical people to deliver some real people centred care. The solution to health provision is not going to be solved by never ending intellectual discussions involving more expensive private systems..........give this challenge to the people that are more suited to taking a rolling up their sleeves action. That is perhaps the problem. Theorists will just keep kicking the problem around, spending money we do not have, and not finding solutions.Patient centred care is required.
@doa379
@doa379 13 күн бұрын
What data are we talking about precisely? Your outcomes, namely your desired outcomes are only as good as the data. Data is ambiguous largely because of noise in the data. You want to avoid ambiguity in govt. If you thought that govt lacked technology then the application of this sort of technology is profoundly worse. Running a govt need not be overly complicated. You don't want an excessive number of degrees of freedom in your policies. This isn't the first time that govts in the West have come into existence. You need to count on the experience in govt, both past and present, and build upon those. Not rip everything down and start over every Z years in a new govt. It is why an establishment exists like it or not. With change for the sake of change you are effectively starting over from first principals and you are bound to make the same mistakes all over again. How can a nation entirely lose track of itself as we see in the UK?? The answer is severe corruption, not a lack of technology.

In 50 years and certainly in a century, people will come to understand how consequential Blair was, how much more he could have done in office, and how much he actually contributed post-office. Not reversing the brain dead privatisations undergone during the Major and Thatcher governments is Blairs worst legacy, that and not building any council homes and not ending right to buy so councils could build more homes. The only privatisations that succeeded were telecoms and, to a certain, extent the energy market but government has been pumping subsidies into that sector for years to subsidise renewable energy.

When you listen to Trump and then Tony Blair, you realise how dumb and unintelligent Trump is... Blair would rip shreds off him in a discussion .... To be able to repair the mess Thatcher & Major caused to the UK, Blair could possibly be the best PM the UK has ever seen... The interview was superb and if anyone needs to listen to a special articulated man and needs to learn something that can broaden the way their politics is viewed - then this is the interview. However, if people are going to appreciate it... all these comments need to be switched off... There are always people that don't appreciate what they need to learn and then the derogatory baseless comments spoil it.
