The heartening part about this is that it's now possible to diagnose CTE in a living person. Obviously there's still a lot of work to be done, but this is a good step.

@@keepingupwiththecichlidsYou must be joking. Muhammed Ali, Jerry Quarry, Mike Quarry, Ken Norton Sr., and innumerable other boxers have been in the news with the consequences of boxing. The NFL gets more notice, though, because a million people watch it live every Sunday, and 30 million watch at home on TV.

@@keithwhite2676 I'm not joking, I seriously haven't heard much about it, although I never said it didn't exist. I always find it a contradiction that while many people frown on big hits in the NFL these days, people still praise knockouts, where knockings is still a big part of boxing.

Yes, but they "sacrifice" themselves VOLUNTARILY. Despite what they say, they did know that football is a dangerous that can cause irreparable harm. It was just the that money and other perks of playing in the NFL was why they continued to play and play as long as they could. These new revelations about CTE certainly hasn't stopped the current NFL players from playing has it?

Tony Dorsett and I came along at the same time, he at Pitt and I at Northwestern. Tony was sensational at Pitt, and I was an "above average" running back at Northwestern. After our college careers he went on to the NFL and and I went to Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. I am so sorry for Tony, but I am so happy that I quit football when I did! Now retired, my health is great and my mind is good for a 72 year old man. Tony made more money than I did, but I would not trade my health for any amount of money. I wish him well!

About the best that anyone can do that has it would be to take the necessary medications and take care of yourself physically. It's heartbreaking and sad.

False, there's different types of brain injuries though. A TBI can be repaired. Our brains are elastic and there's a lot of natural ways to relieve CTE. I think early this year they found a way to get rid of the tau protein build up in the brain (CTE). We know very little about the brain, I know friends who have experienced TBI's and they recovered after proper supplementation and programs to train their mind. CTE is a different story though.
