Great respect here amazing performance by a true pro who sings within his limits adapts to suit his voice as it is now and smashes out a performance like that, with no auto-tune that would put many a young talent in their place much respect. Not many 'singers' can do a live performance of this quality and most likely will have lost their voice by his age.

I wish Spandau Ballet would have been a bigger act here in the US, yes, they had the couple of hits here, but they could have just been enormous here. But I think US listeners weren't quite ready for smooth sound again, and I suspect George Michael benefited. A shame, because Tony truly is one of the finest voices of that era, and this is maybe the best performance of Gold ever.

I agree with you! I remember first Spandau Ballet song I ever heard was Chant No 1 and I loved it, but I fell in love with Spandau Ballet after hearing True in the movie Sixteen Candles. Then I completely fell head over heals in love with Tony Hadley when they came out with Only When You Leave. Been in love with the man since. I was 12 years old madly in love with Tony. I wanted to see them in concert so badly but of course my parents were not going to take me out of Texas to go see a concert. I took me 35 years to finally see Tony perform live. This was 2 weeks ago. Love him even more! That much is True! ;-)

I don't know what part of the US you lived in, but they were huge where I was. Gold, True, Only When You Leave, Communication, When Smokey Sings, etc. I think the 80s were the last decade of a large variety of musical styles heard on the airways. Lived in SE Asia in the 90s and they were absolutely top of the heap there still. Tony's voice is so beautiful and he's still easy to look at!
