Having produced for such artists as Petula Clark, The Searchers, Montanas and songwriting partner Jackie Trent, Tony tried his hand with an orchestra of his own. "Soul Coaxing" also known as Ame Caline by Michel Polnareff with many cover versions the best known by Raymond Lefevre.

I remember when this version on playing on the radio in 1967. The French Horns make all the difference. It’s the best!

It was not released until Jan-Feb. 1968. Unless you heard the original, vocal version by its French composer, Michel Polnareff, who sang it in 1967. Raymond Lefevre and His Orchestra made the instrumental version, released in Jan.-Feb. 1968. It hit its peak to only #37, on the Hot 100 in Apr. 1968.

Hi Gary. I'm 68 (so probably about the same age as you), and I also remember hearing this version in my teens. It was forever playing on the radio. It brings back vivid memories of sitting in the back seat of Mum & Dad's 1965 Vauxhall Viva, listening to the radio as we headed out to Dad's favorite trout-fishing spot up towards the Baton Valley on the shores of the Motueka River. I was very sure there was a version that had the horns, and that finished properly at the end rather than fading out. I've been trying to find this version for the longest time, but I kept coming up with the versions by Raymond LeFevre, Sounds Orchestral, Norrie Paramor, and Billy May. I was so sure about those horns that I would mentally put them in whenever I heard those other versions playing. I had begun to think I must have been misremembering, when this version showed up in my KZbin recommendation, so I decided to have a listen.... Bliss!. You're right, those French Horns do make all the difference!

Long ago when I lived/worked in NYC, this song was the intro for WCBS-FM easy listening. A commercial for a dating service was played quite often. I finally looked it up and now, 50 years later, the girl I met is still with me. She even had the LP.

Quite a hit in the mid 60's albeit by Raymond Lefevre & His Orchestra. One of my most favourite pieces of music all these years on. This is a nice version, for sure.

No, the original song, Ame Caline, was written by Michel Polnareff, a greatly talented French songwriter.

Much better version in my opinion, no choirs going "over the top," and French Horns instead. I must have heard this version as a kid, this is the way I remember it. You're right everybody, this one rocks! And love the drummer in this...very tasteful but aggressive, the right mix.

Yeah, I have this version on one of their CDs (that I bought about 15 years ago) and also on a stereo LP I bought back in the '60s. Great version and also one of their best easy listening songs. One of my faves. IMHO, their version is even better than Lefèvre's version since his version sounds like it's missing notes (despite being much more orchestral than the Ventures' version).
