This remake of 1 + 2 they just put out a few months ago was the fastest-selling game in the franchise. So hopes that they will also potentially remake 3 + 4 and possibly even Underground or maybe a brand new game are more than likely in the works right now. I loved 3 as a kid so even if they just drop it as DLC for the current game I'd be incredibly happy

17:29 That's one aspect where THPS 4 improved on *BIG TIME* - it was no longer needed to grind (no pun intended) every single level and every single objective with *all* of the characters individually for 100% completion. Shared progression per save, not per character! Reaching 90 pro points unlocks the respective pro challenge for all the character and brings up the harder objectives in the levels. You could play through with just one character or jump from one to the other however you pleased and that had zero impact on the workload of completing everything.

this is one of the most magical video games for me, because it was my first gamecube game besides melee. Melee was amazing and gorgeous, but this brought the 3D exploration to the system in a bizarre and addictive extreme sports format that I and my siblings were hooked to for nearly a year. I'll always remember exploring the foundry, utterly comforted and captivated by smooth the game looked compared to the N64. The Californication music video was actually realistic! And of course I'm still privy to video games with similar sized environments with about the same amount of things to do them. you couldn't make a sports game more appealing to the Mario 64 loving kids wanting to become highly skilled gamer tweens

I actually like the n64 version. The levels are different, and it feels more like playing the first 2 entries, while the GCN/PS2 feels like it's in a transition period between n64 and thps4 with mostly worse level design (except Tokyo and adding new levels, R.I.P. Rio de Janeiro).

This is SO my time! Me and my classmates were all around 13 years old and super into skating. THPS3 was tying it all together: Jackass, Bam Magera, skate videos (and injuries), the entire soundtrack... it was all just perfect. A landmark of my youth. For the 90s and early 2000s!

Kids today will never understand the early 2000s, the big baggy pants, the ridiculously chunky shoes. I still have a pair of Osiris D3s from 2003..... Tony Hawk's Underground is probably my favorite out of the ones I've played. The addition of being able to get off your skateboard and walk around really helped the game. The velocity stuff that you mentioned where you had to hold down on the D-pad until you stopped, and just shot off when you let go of it, that wasn't really an issue in the Underground game. I got 100% in the ones I own, I used to play them a lot with two of my friends.

THAW is by far the most under-appreciated in the whole series. It seems simple now, but being able to switch between skating and BMX on the fly blew my fucking mind when it first came out. Also, the final level being a combination of the best parts of all the other levels was a really cool concept.

It's not that bad or anything, I had fun when reviewing it, but man it completely missed the key of the Tony Hawk games: the unique stats and abilities for each character. Josiah Vock yeah I remember playing proving ground and not being too into it at the time, maybe I’ll buy it again soon and try it again. But after that I know enough to know to stay away. I’ll just hold on to the Underground games and hope in some miracle that they made a good Underground 3 Game someday. But I know that it’ll never happen, and if it does, it just won’t feel the same regardless. I miss the early 2000s Neversoft.

Thps 2 is the best in the franchise. Side note: there is a gap checklist so if you didn't find em all I don't consider the game beaten 100%.

I also love the way that it's fairly easy for not very good players to achieve really long combos and those crazy as hell grinds that exist in the levels with very basic moves, but they make it feel so much better and so much more worth it when you're capable of doing it with the crazy special moves. You can totally get everything using mostly basic moves and get a shit ton of points by doing really long manuals and crazy lip hangs, but it always feels so much better when you get double your highest score on a single sick grind because of all those sick special moves along it, while before the highest you've ever had before was from that one single circular grind you kept up for 5 minutes straight.

I still play this and I'm not ashamed to say I still enjoy these games from my early childhood, this, pro skater 1 and 2 on dreamcast, and pro skater 4 were my shit from 2005 (my 3 year old self) to 2012 when my dreamcast got lost when moving, and I just hooked up my ps2 a week ago after a good year of not playing it (og ghost recon and crash bandicoot), and I've been playing pro skater 3, 4, project 8, and the mx vs atv games, I love every second of it, even to this day, the ps2 holds up so well for me. Nostalgia trips... Oh btw have a nice day!

So, I can agree with you about doing the same thing over and over again. I will say though, my friend and I took the time to complete it at the beginning of this year and I'll tell you what, passing off the controller between runs was honestly the best way to do it. It was cool to see our skill get better as we got more comfortable with the game. By the end we would time ourselves with beating a character's story as quickly as possible and see who could do it faster. For that reason, it didn't seem to get old in the couple dozen sessions we had over a few months! And I don't know if was just because of the time it came out or the type of game it is but the unlockable content after each character play through was so worth it. You felt like you earned something. Nowadays, I feel like you get hardly anything cool for 100% games, but maybe I'm just not playing the right ones ( =

Uh, as a Millennial, I gotta say I was there for the boom of Tony Hawk (for context, I was about 6 or 7 when THPS3 came out). My first Tony Hawk game was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 on the N64 (a few years later, I wizened up and got the GameCube version). I grew up playing just about every Tony Hawk game from THPS3 to THPG (which is the best in the franchise has ever gotten on the PS3/XBOX360 generation of consoles) and I loved every minutes of all those years. I didn't even start playing Skate until the year Skate 3 came out, which is when I went back and played Skate 2 a few years later, and then Skate 1 as recently as just a couple years ago. Aside from the Tony Hawk games getting me into skating, which is something I'm sure a fair amount of players can say, I loved the franchise to death. Even played Wasteland so much unto my Junior year of college that it broke. I'm a senior in college, almost 24 years old, and I STILL love the Tony Hawk franchise. I still think Skate has its merits, but I'm always gonna hold a place in my heart the games that quite literally shaped my personality, music taste, and most importantly, gave me a passion for skating.
