Apparently the trick to the last boss is to hit the trigger three times, and if you hit it again or don't finish Robotnik off in time, its every 5 hits after that.

I only don't like that you have to rotate the camera yourself as it doesn't stay behind Lucky's back. IMO, makes playing really inconvenient.
