Tony’s soloing is such an underrated aspect of his playing. Those hyper trills are incredibly unique. His soloing went to another level in the late 70s

Absolutely authentic musician. Even when he's just playing a pentatonic. He'll do it In a way no one would ever think of.
@morenodelosazules
@morenodelosazules Жыл бұрын
Many people judge a guitarist by the amount of notes he plays. If he plays the chromatic scale up and down, for example, super fast, he is considered very good. If a guitarist plays the pentatonic scale, for example, he is judged to be less good. Take for example the difference between David Gilmour and Zappa. Gilmour plays nice pentatonic melody lines, Zappa plays a lot of complex note sequences. Who is better?

@@morenodelosazules , I don't even know what a pentatonic scale is. I judge by the emotive power. Gilmour moves me, Zappa doesn't. Tony moves me most of all. Simple as that.

Well, they all set they're eyes in the African-American blues, which was considered for white fellas as trash, stuuuupid mistake, that's why British bands are the best, coz they didn't play the blind to that African-American community's music. Zeppelin, Sabbath, clapton, the stones, Beatles, the who, pink Floyd, etc they all were inspired by black people's music: Blues and rock n roll.

Greatest Guitarist of all time (Fight me). Notice how he almost always plays with his eyes closed? He feels the music, it flows within him. I saw Black Sabbath (Technically Heaven and Hell which is just Sabbath but with Dio instead of Ozzy, unfortunately but still) Live in 2004. I was 14 and my mind was blown. Heaven & Hell and Die Young turned into 12 minute masterpieces because of his solos. Crazy thing you may not know but 3 (Maybe 2) of his fingers on his right hand are made of wood. Not all of his career but I know it happened.

Notice how Tony never moved much at all? In order to play his stuff it takes deep concentration and phrasing. I when. I play other covers zep ozzy I can run around using my wireless. When I play Sabbath. I stand perfectly still and focus because it is required.

Couldnt have been 2004. Heaven And Hell wasnt around then. I saw the tour 8th row center in Chicago 2007. Also saw Sabbath in 1983 with Ian Gillan on vocals. And his fingertips were cut off on the last day of his factory job. He was farmed out to a different department than he normally worked in. After that accident, he would melt plastic (i believe bottles) and cover them (with thin strips of leather?) so he could continue playing guitar.

Guitar is such personal instrument- especially electric. And there are so many amazing and incredible players with totally different strengths and/or even handicaps to overcome, as in Tony's case. So I try not to compare players too much to one another, but just like players have their uniques talents, listeners have their own tendencies , and some players just feel like more of a "connection" to what is inside each of us than others do. And it varies person to person. Tony Iommi's playing ,style, tones, and even his evolution as a player has always spoke to me more than anyone. Anyone. And for over thirty years in my case. :) I'm fucking old!

It’s as if the removal of the finger tips gave him this tone that was unique to his playing capabilities. The dexterity that he has, at that speed, for me puts him as arguably one of the greatest. That, plus the riffs that he’s contributed with, leading to the succession with the metal genre. It’s sublime.
