Dirk's fadeaway is right up there with Kareem's sky hook both are literally unblockable.

@Flamangatang9 жыл бұрын
I'm not the biggest Dirk fan out there, but I got tons of respect for the guy and his game. One thing I noticed during his "Go-to move" highlights is that the score of the game was fairly close and those were all clutch shots (not necessarily game winners). Thats the true definition of a go-to move.

+Juan Nunez (Faded Endless) like Dirk said himself, it's not his shooting he's worried about, it's the defense and running and getting in shape that's the problem.
@bballbreakdown9 жыл бұрын
+Hostik Yes - this is the issue. He could come off the bench and be more effective too
@TheGeorgeD139 жыл бұрын
+Hostik Yep, great shooting doesn't go away no matter how old you get, it's the rest of the game that requires your body. That's why guys like Ray Allen can play long past their prime: Great Shooting.

a small correction. the thing about tonys first sig move isn't his hand extension- its his footwork. the way he doesn't take a 1,2 but instead gathers and plants for a two legged leaning jump which is off rhythm and is a great way to seal off his defender too. when players do the one two- they are easy to time and catch up to- lebron gets most of his behind blocks by timing those. the plant step is a great way to gather momentum and still seal ur man. D-Rose does something similar but he plants more strongly and will explode up with his athleticism and double clutch. tony will instead lean into or away from his man , depending and create space like that. for another master still playing at this- westbrook has a variation where he goes to his left , he ll dribble up to his man- get bodied up and then go for a one two step- but take one and instead plant and lean and extend with his left hand- this is perhaps his best move. good analysis on that- but yeah its his footwork. not the arm work that makes the shot difficult to defend. i know- i m a small player myself and developed the move similarly to avoid getting blocked.

If I'm covering Dirk this year I want him to drive. That fadeaway is coming every game after Jan 1. No way he's got the legs to get to the rim anymore.
@bballbreakdown9 жыл бұрын
Good point. You know he's gotta hang it up if that shot gets blocked..
@ReCharredSigh9 жыл бұрын
+Chiggsy zach lowe said the mavs teammates call dirk "the mummy;" he literally can't drive anymore or laterally slide around on defense. i agree; i would at least force him to get all the way to the rim a few times before starting to play him for the drive

I'm a huge Spurs fan but it seems TP's go-to move nowadays is an in-and-out cross to a right drifting fadeaway mid range clank.

Dirk has turned the awkward one legged step back to such a effective weapon, but I think the Larry Bird is probably the guy who had the best step back in history, occasionally use the one leg also. I'm not sure if I have ever seen Larry Bird ever get blocked front on his jumper.

Hello coach!.. I can't wait for another NBA season with you and use your breakdowns for NBA 2k16 but really 2k and you need to partner up good work coach.
@ReCharredSigh9 жыл бұрын
dirk's move used to be called a 1-foot stepback, and then for some reason ppl started calling it a 1-foot fadeaway and sticking with that name, even though i think 1-foot stepback describes it better. oh well, semantics. but if you're doing dirk's move in a reffed game, and the refs keep calling you for a travel for it, try doing it as a stepback, ie, for a right handed player, gather the ball as you plant your right foot going forward, then step back onto your left foot then jump off it for your shot; it will technically be the same as running backward 2 steps into your shot (kinda like a eurostep going away from the basket), so it should be ok

My Mom Says I'm a Champion People always like to mention my username in discussions like these. It makes me laugh so thats why it is what it is. Read my comment more carefully I didnt say Dirk was trash, im actually a big fan of Dirk and I think hes still playing great but who is the second best player on the Mavs right now? Deron Williams? Parsons? lol
@ThatsPety9 жыл бұрын
+stupid2574 actually Parsons Is pretty good, but he got injured. and Williams was looking a little like old Deron at the end of his series vs. the Hawks. But I do agree with you. The others need to step up

I'm thinking about it... and my game is similar to Dirk's as far as "strategy" (not so much in the form of the shot.) My game looks like if you took Dirk's overall strategy, gave it Harden's form and footwork, added Tony Parker's Driving moves, applied Hakeem Olajuwon's inside game (excluding the dunks), Rondo's unselfishness, and put it all in Big Baby's body. LOL! If I had to pick one player for comparison... I'd have to go with Paul Pierce? No... shit... I don't know. I'm a weird player. LOL
