The bell probably cracked when the deck was aflame and when the hull sank the hot metal of the bell cracked when the water contacted it.

Great video! I wonder if you found it protected, are the artifacts allowed to be taken out and is a special permit required for that?

Hey Don, good to see you here and thanks for your help with Take Me To Pitcairn too. Tony's stuff was invaluable too. This video brings back memories!

It’s a fascinating story and I hope will always be told. So interesting to see the artefacts. I too grew up with the Hopkins/Gibson film Bounty and it sparked my own interest and imagination. Been fascinated with it for years. Well done 👍

MARVELOUS---I had no idea that such important items had been found and preserved--especially the BELL and BIBLE. I hope they are safe?---the Bell seems to be out in the open. OK, there are no worries about the neighbors, but sneakie visitors ?

The Bounty must have had more than one anchor. Where are the others? I'm hoping to visit Pitcairn within the next 5 years. Would be nice to dive on the wreck.

Great stuff mate. Im a very avid reader of all things Bounty and am currently reading peter Fitzsimons book on the subject. Its great, if you havent already read it, you should. I will make it out to Pitcairn one day. there is also an old bit of a rumour that Im related to Ned Young through his siblings back in the west indies and / or England. I like to think its true. Bligh was a bastard, great seaman, but a bastard, Love your work

I saw the Anthony Hopkins/Mel Gibson version of BOUNTY and had to follow up with some web searches. Thanks for sharing. Although I am puzzled...as shallow as the water is where the Bounty was scuttled, how'd it take so long to recover Bounty parts so close to the surface (relatively easy to get to). No interest by the descendants until the 1900s? Any estimate on how much of the ship's parts have been plundered by interloper divers?

А месные сидели и ждали, пока приедут два толстяка за 5..10т км и поныряют у берега с другой стороны острова и с глубины 2..3м, достанут Исторические Артефакты))))) месные сами железок раскидают, абы туристы приехали и поразвлекались))

It’s not The HMS Bounty. It’s either HMS Bounty or The Bounty. How hard can it be?

That i s fascinating. I have always been captivated by this amazing story. One question... at 13:53 does the caption say "looking through the surf" or "poking through the surf" in 1938? Because it looks like the water could be breaking over the the remains of a hull just below the surface and there seems to be a manmade object projecting through the water in the centre of the frame.

"Going out through the surf, 1933." Refers to the canoe cutting through the breakers, I guess.

Hey Tony. Do you know to what degree the mutineers dismantled the Bounty before they burned her? I am sure they could have used whatever wood they could salvage from her. Did they remove her spars and her masts? Was it too difficult to remove the deck planking? I would have removed all those Swivel guns and all the powder and shot to protect the community from attack by hostile Polynesians.

One account is that Matthew Quintal, who "was a hothead", ducked below and set the vessel on fire while the others were arguing about whether to keep or scuttle her. The crew was divided over the question from the start. The Cornwall lad didn't give the others much of a choice, eh!

Since "HMS" means "His (Her) Majesty's Ship", it's incorrect to refer to "The HMS Bounty". "HMS Bounty" or "The Bounty" is correct.
