There are a few musicians that in some way remind me of what is deep, true, and best about America....it renews my faith a bit and makes me feel proud of our country....Tony Rice is among those special few who seem to have expressed the best of our traditions while shining the light toward future possibilities. Thank you for the music!

So gentle, and so very pretty. Wonderful to hear a band play like this. And thank you, Tony, for this and many, many other times. I still see that guy as I did once live, playing marvels as he looked over his shoulde. Yet it's a very great distance that man has grown, and in the music which is always given from him. Appreciated.

Wow!!!! Beautiful! Wyatt's Solo was killer

I share the view that Wyatt deserves more credit as a great acoustic guitarist. All the musicians on stage are awesome and how about Bryn Davies on bass !!

It's not essential to know Tom Paxton's wonderful lyrics to appreciate the stunning musicianship here; but knowing the lyrics enhances it, for me, as I can hear the words as they play, the instruments somehow verbalize them.
@graemej25995 жыл бұрын
Ah well Flora, your imagination and recollection of Tom Paxton's lyrics will help you thru this boring rendition of a great song, by musicians who know nothing of the art of entertainment.

Hey thanks for posting this. Absolutely loved this on Tony's album with the vocals and it is really a treat to hear and see this instrumental version.

I'm sure that the songwriter, Tom Paxton, would love this tribute to his great song!

Superb musicianship all the way around. It's heartwarming to see a group of quality musicians unselfishly complementing one another, instead of attempting to outdo others. A mini symphony at work and pure craftsmanship at its best. Just one mild critique: The lass on bass was subtle and played her part well. In fact, I think a bit more thunk-thunk volume out of her would have added an extra dimension to the piece. But then, maybe that's just me.

You don't see the point... of an instrumental version of a song by great instrumentalists? I suppose you don't see the point of a symphony, or a jazz quartet, or ... never mind.

Tony started way before Skaggs and Rice. The earliest I remember him was in the early 70's with the Bluegrass Alliance living in Louisville, KY. Then he left them for the legendary lineup that became The New South that JD Crowe started.

Even tho he's sadly lost his voice, Tony Rice still expresses it in his amazing guitar playing. For those who want to hear Tony Rice sing it, here it is. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWGwkIWKprVsg9U

No oxygen up there is on Rice’s plane. The slide guitarist was notably good. The others were totally competent but somewhat fungible journeymen.

Tony developed muscle tension dysphonia in his vocal cords, so he can barely speak now, much less sing. What a shame.

That's great picking but that is a song that should be sung.

You don't need words when you play this well and thoughtful. They portrayed every emotion that the lyrics would portray, real craftsmanship.

Don't see the point of six musicians and nobody singing the song. So dull!
@jackwindrom2538 жыл бұрын
they didn't want to sing and be embarrassed as the Boglestones sing and why bother? They're the kings of the song sung. LMFAO.

Six players on stage all contributing to a fairly simple melodic and famous song, and all concentrating so hard on their individual instruments, that none of them can afford a smile to their audience or show how happy this music makes them. Basically a pretty poor effort ! Other comments here suggest these are very talented musicians, but I give them zero for Stagecraft 101. Because they are in Nashville, may I suggest they attend a Tommy Emmanuel Concert and see how a musician can pass the joy of music on to an audience.
@ronbarker14745 жыл бұрын
i guess you missed Tony"s playing. I'll take his non-emotional playing any day over anyone else you can put on stage.
@vishalmohan30804 жыл бұрын
agreed that they lack stagecraft and thats why tony isnt as famous as his friend skaggs or alison krauss.believe me tony is the best flatpicker innovator of a guitarist that bluegrass ever saw.he is the only reason i learned to start playing with pick.he has lost his voice due to some disease but if you are interested in fathoming his talent,then i suggest you to check his other videos on youtube like church street blues etc.love from india.
