Sibson wasn’t humiliated by Hagler Des. Simply beaten by the better man, an all-time great. Looks good here. Really sharp.

Vantheman 12 3 .YOU'RE RIGHT. HE WAS STRONG AS A BULL. BUT AT THAT TIME , (MR. DESTRUCT AND DISTROY) MARVIN HAGLER WAS DOING JUST THAT TO EVERY OPPONENT PUT INFRONT OF HIM ACCEPT ROBERTO DURAN. TOMMY HEARNS SAID, "HAGLER HAD A STEEL JAW. 🙏 RIP 🙏

Dead right their duck, this Stokie was spewing when he heard him say that....You can imagine Sibbo on the battle-fields of old swinging a mace or axe...proper war horse.

Hagler is one of my favourite fighters. He had it all really, but Sibbo gave his all too and I as a Notts lad rather than Leics was proud of him.

Just watched Sibson knocking out Alan Minter in 1981, breaking his nose. I was 14 at the time and used to enjoy the odd fight on Sportsnight before off to bed for school the next day. I'd never seen that one before that and apparently it was never shown by the BBC (due to advertising on Minter's glove....ridiculous, even in those days) even though it was clearly a BBC recording with Harry Carpenter commentating. Poor Sibson's brilliant finish didn't get a TV audience!

I had a bet with one of my amateur boxing trainers (I'm a week older than Sibbo) that Minter would be too much for Sibson, whoops 😅. The fight wasn't on TV because Minter had DAF on his trunks.

john Collins was my childhood pal, he lived rt across the street from me at 83rd and Rockwell next to the b&o railroad tracks, we went to grade school...k to2nd...his parents later transferred him to st Thomas moore catholic school, he was held back a year and should graduated in 1978 but instead 1979.the last time I seen him was 1984.

They put Sibson in there to get beat up. Cannon fodder. Didn't work out too well. Saw an interview with Sibbo where he said he was getting the shit knocked out of him by 3 American sparring partners whilst in training before this fight. Sibbo was maybe lacking in confidence and was down after the Hagler defeat. One day he went back to the gym, determined and angry and kicked all 2 guys asses on the same day! After that his managers said no more sparring. You're ready. This was 3 weeks before this fight.

Hagler himself said Sibson had given him a good fight. Hagler in my opinion is the toughest 160lber of all time, so no shame in not beating him. The 80's was a great decade for for rough, tough middleweight contenders.

Collins' team dropped a right clanger here. It was Sibbo's first fight after his deafeat to Hagler and they thought he was shot. No chance! This put Sibbo right in the mixer again. 😆

Sibson did nothing wrong against Hagler but was completely taken apart and pummelled into submission. Sibson, himself, couldn't believe anyone could cut him to pieces and beat him senseless in such brutal fashion.

Sibson was a good solid pro who would of been a champion in alot of other eras collins looked out out of his depth against a hardened puncher like sibbo ,apparently Sibson looked after his money and did very well in retirement which is good to know.

When Sibson was really in tip top shape and fully motivated he was a real handful for anyone he could be devastating. He would never have beaten Hagler but I think he could have given the marvellous one a better fight if he’d been better prepared.

Collins had a guard you could drive a Chieftain tank through and hardly to a forward step, showing zero aggression. Question. How could he be considered a prospect?

I must admit ian the little bit i saw here didnt show me a tight defense. I havent seen any other fights - i might do a search on youtube. Maybe the old problem of a guy with a good punch not bothering with defence. Also maybe many of those 29 wins were versus low quality opponents. Hope he had a good post-boxing life.

Sibbo had a lot of things going on in his mind. Think he was intimidated by Hagler (who wouldn't be!) - an inferiority complex? I saw it a year or so after this fight against an English boxer where he clenched his (gloved fists) and roared as if to expel his fears. Think if he had fought the way he did against Hagler as he did here it would have been a much more even fight. Collins was the up and coming star and Sibbo was supposed to be his stepping stone. After the pounding he (Collins) received you can see a member of the stunned spectators say, as he turned to someone on his right "Wow!" if you can lip read! (5.9/10, the bloke in the dark jacket. dark red T-shirt , mid- far- right in the screen behind the bloke in glasses).

@@fitzerelli1 Collins was up against a far better standard of fighter on a regular basis for many yrs(in the U S) and lost a close fight by split decision against the great light Middle &Middle Weight Mike McCallum who schooled Michael Watson a few yrs later in London! .So when Collins finally came to the UK,he really was a unknown quantity to most, but he had plenty of faith in his ability and u know the rest!
