Just a small view of mine, Here in the last few weeks Nascar has done nothing but shoot themselves in the foot. The Stenhouse penalty situation and marketing of that fight as well as the Larson waiver outcome if true. I believe Nascar is truly going to be in major trouble if things keep going this way and the economy falls off. I'm liking Super Late models more and more.

Stewart back to Indy could be cool. Also, for the charter's, this is an opportunity for 23XI to buy 1 or 2 more and Hamlin to race as an owner/driver. RFK could potentially buy 1 as well and maybe take josh berry.

Eveingenuityry point you mentioned David was true but you forgot one, the Next-Gen car was an major factor due to the fact that it destroyed ingenuity for the race team to build a racecar how they wanted for an competitive edge. That last two years of the Gen 6 car Kevin Harvick won 9 races, ever since the Next-Gen car the team total only won 3 races in the over the since2022.

There is one time that NASCAR denied a waiver, and that was to Grant Enfinger when he was booted from full-time driving at Thorsport but was able to get a ride with his current Truck series team. However, because he had no ride for the second race of the year, they refused a waiver, so it is not without precedent. However, I thought it was BS that they did not give one to Enfinger and it will be BS if they don't give one to Kyle Larson. It is sad to see the end of SHR, but it was obvious that Stewart had lost interest, and you can't really blame him. The question is who will get the charters, especially if the new charter agreement limits teams to 3. There are 6 drivers (including Custer and Herbst) and 4 charters, and the fallout will be interesting. Not only could there be a glut of charters but there will obviously be a glut of drivers and silly season just got very wild.

Larson should definitely get a waiver. I applaud and commend him and HMS for staying at Indy and not flying to Charlotte for points. He has already won the 600 and the experience in this year's Indy 500 will help for next year. Larson is still 3rd in points only 6 behind 1st.

With 54 Indy 500s in a row, I'm an old dude. I love all forms of Motorsports. I'd double park on Maryland to run in to buy Econamaki's Speed Sport News every week, cover to cover. Open wheel is strong right now, Cup is not. F1 and IndyCar are flourishing; F1 in notoriety, IndyCar in the best racing and ever increasing car counts and new team interest. Most of my life has seen IndyCar dominate in popularity over Nascar. Then 80's cable TV (TNN, ESPN, etc.) coinciding with Earnhardt, Waltrip, Wallace, Petty, Martin, Gordon ... cup exploded alongside IndyCar. ... then the split gutted IndyCar, while Cup ascended into a monster. Cup is still a monster, but they're certainly on the other side of their best, struggling to find the best way forward.

It's way bigger and way better than any of their races The Daytona 500 would be a little bit closer to Indy if they had a rules package at Daytona Talladega and now Atlanta too where it was every driver for themselves. None of this pack racing where a guy gets passed and goes way back position wise from where he just was at. It's not real racing anyway unlike it is in the Indianapolis 500.

Hi David - big fan of your page. When Tony started SRX and NASCAR pulled the Trucks out of Eldora, that was the beginning of the end. But I put this all on Tony - SRX collapsed and Ray Evernham has moved toward restarting IROC. Tony clearly doesn't show a lot of business sense. I don't think the four charters going on the market represent any kind of significant NASCAR change. Every year charters are sold. Enough teams want them that the market will remain healthy.

Good vid, David. You're my go to guy for everything IndyCar. I'm one of those weird fans that follows IndyCar, NASCAR, F1, USAC, NHRA, etc. Several thoughts: NASCAR even considering not giving Larson a waiver is just NASCAR being idiotic - again! NASCAR basically told Stewart that they didn't appreciate all that he did for them. Tony spent a lot of money to bring Eldora up to NASCAR's standards for the Truck Series to run on dirt. Then totally abandoned him for Bristol. I believe that you're on target for all the other reasons related to Tony's NHRA and Gene's F1 commitments. It's been long known the Haas has pursued an F1 deal for many years.

I’m tired of people conflating the entire playoff era - no Kyle Busch could not have missed half the season and won a championship in 2004, he would have never qualified for the playoffs - the playoffs got to this stupid point bc NASCAR wanted every year to finish like 2011 Tony vs Carl. The idea of the playoffs is not the core issue the issue is the extremely flawed system.

I'm sure it's Tony's feeling that NASCAR and Ford don't really need him around. SHR wanted to be a top team with Ford, rather than second-tier with Chevy. And that lasted for a little while, but now? Ford refusing to let them hire Larson (which now is proving to be an epic failure), and Penske becoming the factory Ford team left them out. And then Tony discovered drag racing, married a drag racer, built a drag racing team, and got into a dragster himself and decided this was a lot more fun than showing up at his day job. Gene Haas? He gave half his team away because he knew he didn't have the ability to run a championship caliber Cup organization. And every so often, he had to remind people his name was still on the door (hiring Kurt Bush and starting a fourth team without telling Tony, for one). When Gunter Steiner talked Haas into starting an F1 team, he didn't really need SHR anymore. So you have two absentee owners, with their own interests, and a team that's running on fumes. Who gets the four charters? Tony Stewart offers Dale Jr. a "Friends and Family Discount" for two charters-he knows JR Motorsports in Cup would be an asset. Trackhouse wants a charter for a third car for Shane Van Giesburgen, and will pay for it. The fourth? 23XL for Hamlin? RFK expanding?

All of the signs were there that this was gonna happen, but it’s still sad. I was hoping that there would be a merging or division of SHR (sell half to one team, half to another), something with a little more job stability for the 300+ people who work at that shop, not just a free-for-all unraveling. I really hope they stick to their promise of helping everyone find jobs, though from what I’ve heard there is a need for good people in the sport, so here’s hoping everyone lands on their feet. Just would loved to have seen a more cohesive dissolution plan
