It kind of puts a point on the fact that Tony's "family" is a joke. They're bullshit. Incompetent assholes. They trample on real people with real relationships, then shrug and talk shit. Slava was a real one. He fought in war and saved lives. Tony passes out and drops his gun. He sent his idiot nephew and his dad's friend to see him and it ended in disaster. 20 years Phil was in the can, and his younger brother Billy looked after Nancy and the kids. Tony didn't visit anybody in prison, and he didn't even call Paulie. 5 fuckin families, then we got this pygmy thing in Jersey.

Pay attention to what Slava says: “He WAS (not IS) like brother to me”. I believe Slava was contacted by his friend following the incident with Paulie and Chrissy. He got away using Paulie’s car but later succumbed due to his injuries. Slava was fishing to see if Tony was involved somehow. Fast forward to the final episode of the Sopranos. @jakep19796 жыл бұрын
Who knows. If Slava becomes too emotional, it could have been an all out war. At the very least normal business with Tony would have stopped and both Paulie & Chris would get clipped over this, especially if the interior decorator would have lived ( probably do both himself).
@peteluis28496 жыл бұрын
The way the series ended and all the debates, imo I think if Tony did get whacked it was the Russians ans this scene almost proves it. And one of the most popular episodes is "Pine Barrens" so is there a connection?
@Thforklift1265 жыл бұрын
Maybe. The Russians are a different breed. Not better, but different, and they would (and have) sabotaged business interests if it means preserving their sense of honor. They don't fear the same things, especially not actual transplants from the USSR. Threatening them with jail and/or time away from their families doesn't carry the same weight. It's why they're tough to mess with. Not as much flipping and vengeance is a cultural imperative over business.
