@@JoeSmith-jx5ri Yeah, can someone explain, why Tony didn't dig deeper into this. He explained everything perfect, to which Sil responds: timeline got fucked up... It's like saying to Tony: no, you're dead wrong about this, even though they both know what's what. I personally feel that Tony understood it, but Sil was just too close to Tony to take something more extreme, so Tony just reminded what's what and took Sil's taste as a penalty.

@@kingsouther acting is not easy. To be able to change your face subtly to convey any given range of emotions and then be prepared to change emotions from happy, to surprised, to upset, to sad, to menacing or any other plethora of different emotions convincingly takes a lot of skill. HOWEVER, acting can be “easy” if the casting director picks out people that are perfect for a role. If a role is relatively one tone, where the character usually acts the same way for the majority of the show, and the casting director picks somebody who in real life matches the personality of the character, then it can be “easier” for an untrained actor to perform.

I just bought the DVD box set The complete series and I hadn't watched it in a few years and when it starts it just drops you right into The Sopranos world and Dr.Melfi I'm also 41 now and you see it from a different perspective but what a show 👌👏 and it just gets better and better 👌😀love from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪❤💯.

Everything else has been said about the scene but something that comes across to me now after so many rewatches; “indeed we do” is SO menacing and for a second, you remember that friends, compadres, WHATEVER; these are stone cold killers and it came to that, they’d blow each other’s heads off without hesitating. Incredible stuff!

Sil had a response for every line, he even had the money ready knowing that Tony is going to tax him, but Tony just OWNED him with that “I know you will”. That was savage.
@dieselwiesel88932 жыл бұрын
No, Tony didn't actually "own" Sil, bro. Sil saved the family from a civil war that was going to happen because of Tony. Saying "I know you will" is not so savage but more of an attempt to save face for Tony who was clearly disobeyed . . .

Ridiculousness.
@JasonKhehra3 жыл бұрын
Have to keep in mind that Tony is also distracted with the Meadow situation and isn't his regular, aggressive bulldog self. Gandalfini plays Tony perfectly here. You can tell in Tony's face he knew that Sil was pissed and he reaffirmed him he was #2. Sil was essentially under boss and controlled the day-to-day activities of the crew. Worst case, Sil could have Chrissy eliminated with 1 phone call. Tony was alone at the top, and he realizes it in this scene. His plan to bring Chris closer won't work unless Sil is removed. They are at a stale mate and the cash helps smooth things over.

@cocobot904 жыл бұрын
@AK Jay I think of all those shows that came after, Mad Men is closest in it's style to Sopranos. It has a similar focus on the little details in the interactions between characters, lots of non-verbal communication, implications etc. Which is no accident, since the showrunner was a writer and exec. producer for Sopranos in S05 + S06.

The Sopranos is an absolute classroom on the fine art of dialogue. The characters seem to all be poems unto themselves. They all speak in figurative language as oppose to literal--seldom saying exactly what they mean. This subtext is brilliant. A subtle--but vital aspect of character.

Tony would of had a big problem with the family if he hit sil, he was respected by all the guys from the bottom to the top and always did right by the family I think he could of clipped tony and took over if he wasn’t such a loyal guy he was true cosa nostra even until the end in his last scene. Chrissy was respected by no one and sil understood the dynamics of the unhappiness in the family from soldiers and capos with regards to Tony’s bias towards him and that’s what this scene is over sil is letting Tony know respectfully Chris’s position isn’t respected with in the family and that he agrees with them Tony is taken back by sils move and understands the dynamics of the situation and sees it more logical to take the money and let it be I think Tony knew a fall out with sil wouldn’t be good as he would have the backing of the men sil was always one step ahead of Tony and more wiser and respected by everyone as a mans man Tony was just an egotistical powerhouse
@mikekemp98773 жыл бұрын
agree when richie goes missing and the soldiers are talking ...i dont want to get whacked for missing a memo patsy actually says when silvio is at the bar if that guy finds out that tony is whacking people contrary to the rules or by implication anyone else hell be the guy that takes them out.there was a lot of respect for silvio within the family never blustered had a shocking temper but i think they respected and feared him far more than tony paulie richie or any of the others.out of all of them i think genuinely he was the best gangster ruthless knew the rules better than anyone and stuck to them more and always saw the bottom line the reason the troops did it money.silv is nearly always seen on the adding machine in fact he is hit because if he left the receipts at the bing and just ran the guys would have missed him.he was also fair and reasoned in his logic.the troops have to earn tony ousted junior because he hogged all the money yet he does the same when he is boss.phil and johnny sac make the same mistake .there are millions in the esplanade for example as they keep saying except it translates as new sports cars and massive houses and boats for them and the boys get to sit round doing nothing on a building site 5 hours a day as their end.silv is a realist he knows the guys have to earn christopher turning up in a new range rover flaunting his status and mocking the guys there who have been soldiers for years getting nowhere by being loyal while he does what he likes get rewarded by tony time and again just because they are related has to rankle silv knows the tiles and the cable keep the guys happy and sends a message to tony. i think his main problem was he was a great no 2 but as acting boss the strain of keeping everyone happy and a balance nearly killed him.tony ruled because deep down he didnt give a fuck about anyone except himself as chrisess fate indicates.silvio does seem to be genuinely liked by most of the guys wheras tony is respected and fawned on but pissed on behind his back.

This is Silvio threatening Tony, not the other way around. The moment there is "dysentery among the ranks," the Chief of Staff becomes the most invaluable crew member, and the Boss gets a bullseye on his back. Sil made sure Tony didn't forget that, even as he remained loyal until the end.

A rare moment of insubordination from by far the most dependable member of his crew. It's like he wanted to see if he could get away with it just because, banking on his years of loyalty and reputation overriding one potential hiccup. He even says what you mad at ME now? He took a big gamble just for the challenge, it seems. After I recognize the acting writing cinematography etc. the real treat of this show is thinking about the subtleties, subtexts, and social dynamics present in the majority of individual scenes.

Until watching this scene right now I did not realize what it was really about. Sil did not want Chrissy in that position. I guess he thought pasty was supposed to get it.. but let's just make one observation here though he is the only one, the only one on the crew that never thought about turning his back on Tony. He was always the most loyal one
