i don't remember if it was either Chapin or Morello, but one of them advocates a similar approach for better doubles. Like r R l L.. it smoothened my doubles. I'm sure it will work for the uptempo ride as well. Thanks for the great video!

Christian do you play it with thumb on top Or fulcrum in between thumb and first finger ? Thank You!! Mike S.

Hi Mike! When I'm playing my ride cymbal, I do typically have my wrist rotated so that my thumb is on top. That being said, sometimes I play with the back of my hand pointing up, so I like to practice this technique at different degrees of rotation. Though all of the fingers are involved in this way of playing the 5-note grouping, the technique relies on keeping the fulcrum between the thumb and first finger. That's the pivot point that will allow you to get those last two notes smoothly. Hope that helps! Feel free to reach out if more questions come up in your practice. Take care!

@@christiancasolary8610 Thank you so much I'm having a difficult time getting 5 strokes Out fast enough to use. As you mentioned in Your video sometimes it sounds like 3&2 instead of 5 even strokes. When I use my thumb on top I can get enough stick rebound To pull 5 even strokes back, but its still tough Getting the speed to play a fast ride tempo. Thank you for your advice!!! Mike

What ride cymbal is that man ?

Hey Jonathan, it’s a Heartbeat “Vintage Ride” series. In person, the cymbal has clear but gentle stick definition that dissolves into a velvety, dark wash. www.heartbeatpercussion.com/product-category/cymbals/vintage-cymbals/
