Part 20: • Tony Yayo & Vlad Share...
Part 1: • Tony Yayo Tells Vlad H...
--------
In this clip, Tony Yayo gave his take on DJ Akademiks calling hip-hop pioneers “dusty” for not having money the way artists today enjoy. However, Yayo pushed back on the idea that everything, including legacy, has to be determined by the amount of money something or someone brings in. He said while he understands Akademiks is coming from the perspective of someone much younger, he still thinks he’s wrong for disrespecting the legends.
Later, DJ Vlad shared his thoughts on the comments made by DJ Akademiks about hip-hop pioneers. He explained to Tony Yayo why he disagreed before revisiting the story about How Kid Creole ended up with a life sentence in prison for murder. This prompted an interesting idea about setting up some type of a "pitch-in" service to help provide the first generation of rappers with a pension, health insurance, and/or financial stability. To that, Tony Yayo agrees and responds with a question for DJ Vlad: Who would be in charge of disbursing the money? Later in the conversation, Tony Yayo shares the type of philanthropist that he's been doing to give back.

And think about it, you can go back to Vlad's interviews with dead rappers, or even Adam22's, those will be relevant 10 years from now. Yayo is 💯% on point. You appreciate the art of the culture when you know the culture from the root. Vlad tries to make his point but every genre has that in it where the early pioneers never profited from the inception of a genre! But the future artist always gain from their sacrifices. Like Yayo said it doesn’t last forever. You just have to be smart with your time and money while you’re at the top. It’s not easy but it’s just what needs to be done.

You know that real hip hop has been on life support for years now, because these social media influencers and reporters like Akademiks or Vlad are more famous and relevant than the legends. As far as 80s Hiphop is concerned, folks seem to forget at that time it was being called "A Fad". The opinion of those outside the community was that it wasn't gonna last. The artform was so young and so new that most of the artists were doing it simply for the LOVE they had for the music. Most were teenagers. U can't expect a teenager to understand business. Another problem is that most of the newer big name rappers aren't even great rappers and are making wayyyy more than the 80s/90s goats. Rappers from the 90s was balling off just $100K per platinum album then like $10-20K a show. Now these young rappers get sale money, different streaming platform money and like 100K- maybe even 1M a show.

Nobody ever starts this convo with the most logical actual answer which is rappers DID NOT make the kinda money that mid 90s and 2000s rappers make. Dudes wasnt banking 10M+ back then and the labels took alot of their money. There wasnt no $100,000-200K per show back then. There wasnt album sales AND streams combined. There wasnt commercials and such left n right like now. There wasnt social media to get the whole world hip to ur shyt like now. They mostly made album sales money which wasnt alot back then for most.
@miloleilo7730
@miloleilo7730 Жыл бұрын
I get your point- but you need to apply logic too- rappers back in the day made money that was way above - living expenses, houses and other commodities- for eg- if they made $600,000 from album sales and mansions were $200,000 and they brought it then 30 years later- the property today is worth $4 million dollars- so the money is all relative during the time,

I think what a lot of people have to understand is that academics is not originally from America. He didn't grow up in the culture of Hip Hop as closely as someone would have been who lived in America. So, with that being said, he doesn't appreciate the old school artist as much as someone else would who has lived this culture. And you also have to understand that he was not a popular kid growing up. And a lot of unpopular kids hold a grudge on individuals who were popular. And a lot of these pioneers and Hip Hop were popular simply from what they were doing if nothing else. Look at this dude. He doesn't really have any real style with him. The majority of these rappers that you see him interview have more style and swag than he will ever have. Even the conscious rappers have more style than he does. Just let that man talk, and we should just leave him alone.

It's okay to be mad at AK. VLAD has a selfish viewpoint, he really feels the same way as AK. But let's be real rap wasn't even accepted back then in the '80s. No one was giving out big money to those guys. And there was a lack of opportunity as being black people in general. But over the years we have made strides and things have gotten much better than back then. Overall it's just disrespectful to talk about people with less than you!!!!

It's not a lie. Most rappers didn't read the contracts. They were more concerned about fame than business. So most rappers from the beginning til now are broke and dusty. There's new rappers that are broke and dusty too. Lol Broke and dusty is a mindset. You choose glitz and fame over fortune? Then you sir/ma'am are a broke and dusty. Simple right? You are still a legend in your own right but, if you're broke, but your music made someone else millions. Dusty 💯

You missed the point. This isn't even about criticism. This is about the dusty comment coming from a dude we know is soft. If you heard Spice-1 who use to be around 2-Pac, his response was even better than LL. So forget all that talk about money. Rich cats dealt with too. So for all the people who love to run their mouth all on the internet and podcasts, they should keep in mind because people ain't playing with people.
