What a wealth of recordings in just one recital! Literally every single piece performed here screams of merits. The second scherzo, which is an often hackneyed piece played by entry level undergrads finally shows its true potential under the right fingers, the flair the virtuosity, the drama and an incredible showcase of pianistic range! The sonetto was very powerful and shows that his Liszt is just as good as his Chopin. The real star piece here was the Valle D’Obermann, it’s one of those instances where the pianist puts everything on their sleeve and exposes their innermost demons and darkness. An exhibitionist reveal of their own vulnerability. Mr. Yang is a rare generational talent, and I can’t wait to see what masterpieces he’ll drop next!
