Have for years have harvested all my tomatoes before the frosts, including tiny ones, colour grade them, place in short cardboard boxes lined with newspaper, placed infront of a sunny window, we have had tomatoes ripen until mid winter.

Great haul but most of those tomatoes would ripen if you take them indoors. Why didn’t you pick the little pink cherry tomatoes?

I wondered also

Me too! They ripen overnight in a warm kitchen as well. I have a freezer bag full still from last year which should see me through till this year's tomatoes are ready ( in NZ so planting out now!)

Salsa verde green toms and some hot peppers wonderful with nachos ( for the carnivores great with burgers )Of course you could do chutney!

I wrapped my green ones in newspaper and kept them in my warm kitchen, checked after a week half of them were ripe and then re wrapped the rest back up and by the 2nd week they were all ripe. My old mum used to do this and it worked like a dream

Tony, I always find that grubbing out tomatoes marks the slow march into winter. Thankfully down here in Aus we are heading into summer, A couple of days ago I got a 10kg box of saucing tomatoes for 3AUD and have semi dried them in the dehydrator and put them under oil then ready for use in salads, sandwiches and pasta sauces for a couple of months.

AUD$3 for 10kg of saucing tomatoes?? 😯 I don't think I'd be able to get it for probably 10 times that much 😅 I planted tomato seeds a bit late this year, so I'm still a ways yet from harvesting any of my own.

@@ErraticPerfectionist One thing about tomatoes is that they can come on very quickly given the right conditions. I tend to sow several batches so that I can try and extend the season; the first batch are flowering and setting fruit now while second batch are about 10cm and still in small pots. I am running out of room so may not sow a 3rd batch. The chillies have overwintered well and some are already in full flower so I am hoping for a bumper season.

Maybe you could try putting some garlic in the planters, see how they do :) Additionally to my saved/bought bulb garlic, I got a really big bulb from Tesco (55p) and I'm going to see how that does as a little trial.

Tony, you really should be wearing a mask, all that dust you are breathing in. 😮😮. Can't understand why you left those red toms,😟😟
