Nicw one Tony, Tony , get some tip tinner for your soldering iron, it's in a little tin and you push the tip into it and it cleans it and leaves a nice silver clean tip. Bob. UK

Thank you Bob - indeed I should have cleaned that tip before using it. That said for whatever reason that tip tends to get crustier than the others (it's a genuine Hakko). I have a sponge and some wool cleaner, is that what you're referring it or is that "solid paste" type of cleaner? Thanks for watching!

Yes that's the one Tony, it's a very hard paste and it melts as you shove the tip into it and it leaves a Tin coating on the tip @@tony359

Just a small note: LED DLPs does not use color-wheel, but colored LEDs to generate the primary colors. Also, the DLP uses PWM modulation, as the mirrors are only digital - dark or bright -- fast switching them on-and-off causes the gradient between them.

you are absolutely right! I didn't think about that and indeed the service manual mentions the RGB LEDs. This also helps with making the unit compact I guess as you don't need a spinning item inside. Thanks for pointing that out! On the dithering, I was aware but that didn't make it in the video - but you are spot on of course! Thanks for watching!

It's not an electrolytic, they're ceramic. If one shorts, the other should be unaffected, it would not have to withstand more voltage or more power. Thanks for watching!

I think that board is too far gone. The battery juice had spread over a large area of the board and caused significant damage. Repairing all those tiny traces that are so close together will be extremely difficult and the internal traces could be damaged too. Then there are the crusty green ISA slots and ICs that'll need cleaning/replacing. Its _many_ frustrating hours of fine microscope work. If i had been given that board, i wouldn't even bother trying.
