1:04:52 This is my photo! Hope you liked it. It's a composite of the only decent foreground I could find. The original photo is 3h16m with a 35mm (@f4) lens, shoot with an euqatorial mount and a self modified (full spectrum) Fujifilm X-T20. Bortle 5 sky, so decently light polluted.

Self modified?! I imagine that was a nail biting experience pulling the filter stack off of your sensor. I've been thinking about doing that on an old Sony A7 but haven't mustered the courage yet. Great shot!

They’re back!! Love the live shows. Just like old times, but even better. Thanks for helping people, giving advice, and allowing photographers to show off their work.

Dang.. missed this one. Hopefully I can catch the next one. A couple of explanations from questions that came up: The "Hubble Palette" refers to the color channel assignments used for different narrow band wavelengths. Typically you would use a monochrome camera with three different filters. The filters block all light except the specific wavelengths that are emitted by ionized gas, typically Hydrogen, Oxygen and Sulfur. Ionized hydrogen and Sulfur both emit red light. Oxygen is a greenish blue color. Because hydrogen and sulfur are both red light, it's not possible to arrange them into a RGB image. The Hubble palette assigns Sulfur to the Red, Hydrogen to the Green and Oxygen to the blue. The result is a false color image which lets you see the structures of the different gases. It's called the "Hubble palette" because this color scheme was first used on narrow band images taken by the Hubble space telescope. The famous "Pillars of Creation" utilized this palette. Narrowband imaging works really well in light polluted skies because it blocks most of the light pollution. That said, the signal is weak and requires long exposures and a lot of total integration (exposure) time. For example, when I shoot narrowband, a single exposure will be 10 minutes long, and I collect hundreds of these 10 minute sub exposures (we call them "subs"). Total integration for me is around 20 hours (this varies per astrophotographer and sky conditions). Narrowband has it's limits. It's mostly viable on emission nebula (there are techniques for mixing narrowband with broadband data.. commonly used on bright galaxies to boost the emission nebula in the target galaxy). On the Rosette picture, all the red light really is gas. It's clouds of ionized hydrogen, which as mentioned above emits a red light. When you see a faint white/yellow/blue light from galaxies, that is the light being emitted by unresolved stars. I enjoy these review videos, keep them up! My path into photography started with deepsky astrophotography. Clear Skies!

1:06:16 This was my composite of the hybrid solar eclipse from April 2023! I took this in Timor-Leste 🇹🇱 using a Nikon z6ii and the AF-S 200-500mm adapted and using solar film taped to the front element. Used a lot of tips from Tony’s video from a few years ago. Thanks so much!

Watching your show today, right after our first visit to Puerto Rico. Wish I could have joined the photo tour with the local photographer. I didn't know where to go for the scenes and the 3 days of rain we experienced limited our photo opportunities.

1:01:17 fun to be featured this time around (and at 1:04:04 was naughty and submitted twice). It's fun to be part of the live stream. I think the show could benefit from being longer though. I've submitted a few times and this was the first time I was featured, some more time so more people was featured would be nice. That or make them more niche like this one so there won't be so many submissions. Also shout out to Laura Angarita for having what I thought was the coolest photo of the bunch 1:03:46

The Hubble Palette just means the Hubble team assigns certain colors to certain elements in the gasses of the nebula. An example is oxygen is given a blue or green, hydrogen is given orange or red and sodium is given yellow. They can use different colors for custom pallets. With the new Webb scope all light gathered is invisible to our eyes so they have to make up a color pallet to see the photos. ❤

Hi Chelsea and Tony, I loved the review show tonight. I came into photography from astronomy, but realised astrophotography can be very expensive and a very steep tech learning curve (even for a geek like myself).which was kind of the wrong direction, BUT then I found your channel and bought Stunning Digital photography, and you gave me skills and knowledge to advance. If I have a question in my head either your channel or the ebook is my first "go to". (so thank you!) I was however, reaching a motivational and inspiration low in the last few months.. and non shutterbug friends were like "meh, another pic you have taken, so what" . Having you both review my shot last week, and being able to show the doubters (myself being the biggest) that an award winning authors of photography books and KZbinrs with over a million subscribers , can constructively critique and appreciate my work, (even if it was minus a swan, which is now a running joke with those non photography friends, one of which has even bought me an inflatable 🤣 ) You have given me back the "mojo", so much so, I'm looking through my old photos for "the one" that would suit B/W . (B/W is something I would never really have tried before) whilst the subject of the one I'm submitting isn't of the Cygnus subspecies, it will have one included, and no circles, just for Tony as a another "Thank You" (like a "where"s Wally" and I've made it simple for this first one) Your live shows are the best please consider making them longer, Chelsea's snap from the hip one liners, Tony's tech (fellow geek) speak, mic issues, even the dogs playing up, make them relatable, and yes your non live are professional and polished, its fun to see you both like that,. Thanks again from me and the blow up Swan.

That was really just awesome! So many excellent images. I haven't been very impressed with my own attempts at astrophotography l but I don't have the specialized equipment that clearly had to have been used for some of these shots. I doubt I'll ever see the Aurora Borealis here in Texas either. I'll just have to keep learning and do the best I can with just my T7 and Joilcan tripod. Maybe someday I'll manage to capture something worthy of sending to y'all. Thank you for all you provide for us starving artist photographers. And btw, do have any reviews and/or tutorials on the Topaz editing software? I'm not even sure if my old laptop has the capacity to run it (or any other current pro editing software)

I shoot deep sky nebula photos in my backyard. I live in Tacoma Washington. Real bad light pollution. I use a narrowband filter that only lets the red hydrogen alpha and Blue oxygen 3 light through. ❤
