The RB67 has 2 cranks 1 to reset the shutter and 1 to advance the film. Cause if you don't you'll get double exposed film.i have Nikon F3, D800, D810, D850, Canon 1Ds markll Mamiya RB67, Calumet 4x5 I've been shooting since 1972

Seeing your RB67, Tony, reminded me of my wedding photography days back in the 80's. People that think modern cameras are heavy should try carrying around a RB67 with an eye-level finder and a huge handle mount flash attached for an entire day's wedding shoot. Not to mention having to change film out every few shots. I know I sound like I had to walk uphill to school both ways everyday. But, we really have it easy now.

I grew up a 90s kid so I didn't really encounter those huge old film cameras till recently. I bought a Pentax 6x7 recently and took it for a friend's wedding to snap a couple pics for him. Totally did not expect how heavy it would be on my neck to lug around the whole day.

I think, the D850 is still the best studio camera that you can get. I shoot also with Sony, but these cameras are sexy as a fridge. They work almost flawless, but they don’t give you the feeling, take me and let’s go out and shoot some pictures. They’re just perfect workhorses. I personal love the G5X MKII.

My favorite camera is a Lumix G9. It's very versatile with a huge selection of lenses (from the super tiny 12-32 up to the PL 10-25 f/1.7 and Olympus 40-150 f/2.8 pro). I tend to only use it for pictures at home and for weddings and events. I have a G95 and GX85 for travel but if I could only have one camera I'd pick the G9. With the release of the GH6 I have renewed excitement for a possible upgrade to the G9. My only real complaints are that I could do with a bit more SNR at high ISO and more resolution doesn't hurt. I'm still waiting on the detailed test results of the GH6 sensor but from video reviews I'm seeing about 1 extra stop at high ISO vs the G9 or about 1.5 vs the G95. Pretty decent considering the extra resolution they also added.

@@bingbong4848 exactly. It's such a versatile system which is probably its greatest strength. It will never have the best image quality in low light but the results are definitely saleable (especially when processed in DxO PhotoLab with DeepPRIME NR) but the flexibility of having a super small kit one day or a big fast lenses the next is a huge benefit for me.

Also use DXO Photolab now. One small feature on both these cameras I love that's rarely mentioned is to shoot in AP whilst being able to set min shutter speed.

Yes, a great camera. It has been my video conferencing camera for 1.5 years. A somewhat overlooked benefit: clients *do* appreciate a better image than a webcam, even if it's subconscious.

My first camera was an Olympus OM-1. It was more than a decade old when I got it in the late 80s. I loved it. Great Zeiss lenses, wonderful tactile experience, easy to carry, easy to use.

Wow, you're bringing back some memories. I replaced my Speed Graphic 4X5 with a Mamiya RB 67 for industrial photography about 45+ years ago! I had to use a Polaroid back with P/N film because access was often limited to maintenance shutdowns, so I needed to check results immediately on-site. The SLR features were much more convenient than using a View Camera, and the shots were sharp & clear, which is always a challenge with industrial photos. I needed to use a wide angle lens for tight positions, but sometimes found the 80mm lens to have a lot of pincushion distortion that made retouching difficult for enhancements of rectilinear geometry. The RB67 was a great workhorse! If I had a time -machine then, I'd visit the future for today's impressive digital technology for shots & editing! Today's photographers rarely know how spoiled they are!

My favorite is the Oly E-M10 II. It's the last well made one of the M10 series. And with the tiny 1.8 lenses it's very discrete too. Fun little camera, with nice controls and cool looking.

Kudos! What I coincidence, I'm reading your comment lying comfortably on my sofa with the Oly EM10 Mark 2 sitting on my chest. It's a great camera with an incresible sensor, image stabilization, etc etc which all end up producing great pictures. I think this is a very neglected camera, and it's true, it might not produce pictures with the same IQ as that of a Sony A7III, but given optimal light conditions, it has nothing to envy other cameras.

Bought my Mark II on sale when the III came out. I found the image quality of the III to be slightly better, but I've held onto my Mark II for years, and use it for my job as a photojournalist pretty regularly. Debating going to a full frame camera, but with everything being shared on social media these days, do you even really NEED full frame?

For person film projects my current favorite is a medium format Mamiya M645 1000s. It shoots 15 6x4.5 photos. I also are shooting with 20 other analog cameras.

My favorite camera is the Pentax 645N. It’s incredibly versatile and reliable. Handy modern features ensure it keeps up with fast pace shoots. I shot a wedding on a dual camera shoulder rig with a Sony a7R3 and Pentax 645N; the Pentax kept up wonderfully and produced some of my favorite photos from that day. It’s also great having a film reference as Kodak Portra and Ilford B&W films deliver a look that will surprise and amaze. For the price of an advanced mirrorless camera body, you can fill your camera bag with a complete Pentax 645N system perfect for any occasion and love every frame you shoot. To top it off, it’s one of the few film cameras that saves metadata on the film under each frame. The Pentax 645N is simply clutch.

The Mamiyas were nice cameras, but miserable outside a studio. The Pentax 67 was my preference - a lot more practical and able shoot 120 or 220 without having to have separate backs. I think in real terms, everybody's favourite camera was the Nikon F3 produced from 1980 to 2001 - despite the release of the F4 and 5. They were still available for sale after 2021, with stock from the end of the run. As with the F2, the F3 enjoyed a boost in sales when it’s successor was announced. Initially photographers feared the concept of an electronic shutter on the F3, 16 years later they feared almost everything on the F4 and many professionals rushed out and brought a couple of extra F3 bodies to ensure they’d never have to switch. - there was no price reduction on the F3 when the 4 was announced.

Tony - you surprised me! Leica M10-D! I love that you pulled this one up first! Best thing I did since my first Nikon FE (1982..? I know..) was to buy the M10-D. I have had a bunch of feature-rich-cameras - but the M10-D connects with the soul of photography in a different way. Now that I have trained to use it fully manual (Thanks - Justin Mott) and getting pretty good at pinning the focus - it takes me back to why I started with photography in the first place. Now a collector's item!

In addition to my previous comment, I have to say my all time favorite camera was my Wista 4x5. It was the whole experience from loading the film holders to printing the negatives. The whole process made me slow down and think about what I was shooting. You only get 2 shots/film holder. I loved the total control you have from correcting the perspective (shift, swing, tilt rise & fall), grouping negs together by their lighting conditions (sunny, cloudy, studio). The whole process made me think to the darkroom; the better the neg the easier to make a good print. With one lens I could do landscape, portrait, interior to macro: using the formula bellows length squared divided by focal length squared for exposure compensation due to light fall off from the bellows being extended.

I bought my Canon A-1 in 1980 and I still use it. July 2013, I bought one of my bucket list cameras, the Canon New F-1 with the AE Finder FN and the AE Motor Drive FN from KEH. My quandary of whether shoot B&W or color is now solved. When I told my wife about the F-1, she asked "Is that their flagship?" I answered "Yes, for the 80's" She said "But it." Another of my bucket list cameras is the Mamiya RB67 and a 4x5 view camera. Christmas 2013, my wife bought me a Canon 5D III. On my 5D, I turned off the previously shot image review.

As always, great video! I started out shooting solely Canon years ago but recently sold all of my Canon gear having switched to Sony. The one Canon camera I kept is my SX60 HS. The IQ isn’t the greatest but the reach on this small camera makes it great for bird ID. (I used to have a 600 mm F4 but sold it because it was too much of a hassle to take on airplanes.) One camera I’m surprised you didn’t mention is the Sony RX100 VII. As you know, this is also a very small camera with fantastic IQ and excellent for video. Finally, I just bought the Mavic 3 after several years of flying Phantom 4 pros. Like Tony, I’m thrilled with this drone and as in your video, drones really change your perspective.

The fact that 120 film is so expensive is exactly why I like it. It forces me to slow down and think before I press the shutter (a waist level finder also does this). Also, while it's expensive, the cost is comparable to what 4x5 film was 20-30 years ago and the camera + film are a lot less bulky and easy to handle.

That why I, reluctantly, sold a hand-picked kit of M6 Leicas with 6 lenses in 1996, after spending $4500 on film processing and scans after six weeks of shooting on a project in Europe. As much as I loved my Leicas, there was no way to justify that financially or ultimately - given 36 or 46 MP - photographically.

My first camera Canon A1. I picked it over the Nikon FE2 because the winder on the FE2 poked me in the bridge of the nose when it was on. I also love my RZ67 PRO II I used it for my daughter's team basketball and soccer team photos. Now I use the RZ67 for landscapes.

Nikon Nikonos with 15mm, 20-35mm, 50mm and 80mm lenses. Great fun underwater and when paddling white water rivers, but served well as a street and off the track camera.

My fav was my first SLR, the Minolta SRT-101 with 50mm f1.4. Fully manual film camera with built in light meter. Some of my best and still today most endearing shots were on that camera. It only had a watch battery for the light meter. I moved up from a Yashica TLR to get it. You’re absolutely right about GAS and tech everything taking away from the experience and flow of what we do… I shoot A7IV today but still manual exposure triangle. I think AF is a game changer.

Another thing about the SRT101, it is one of the best handling cameras ever designed. Though the body was a prism on top of perfect rectangle, it somehow fit my hand perfectly. And that plunger that stopped down the lens to view depth of field was perfectly positioned. Even after a Speed Graflex 4x5, Leica IIIg , a Fujica, a Pentax K, an OM-1, a Topcon, and now both a Fujifilm X-T1 and X-H1, two wonderful cameras, I still remember how good that SRT felt in my hands.

My favourite lens of all is my Sigma 180mm f2.8 OS APO Macro. It's heavy and not that fast, and the OS is a bit loud. BUT: -Incredibly sharp at f4. So, it's great for portraits, and animal pics. So, I can use it to get a picture of any thing that is human sized or smaller. That's quite a range for a fixed lens. -Easy and otherworldly macro photography that melts everything that isn't the subject (because focal length). And, the subject can be alive since the minimum 1:1 focus distance is like half a yard away (because focal length). No need to kill a bug to get a picture of it. If I bring that lens with me for travel, I WILL come home with an interesting shot.

For cell phones, I found the Ulanzi Cap Grip makes shooting with the phone so much more enjoyable. Under $20 and you can actually handle your phone like a camera. I use mine on my Samsung S21. Tripod socket on the bottom and a removable shutter button you can use to trip it from up to 40 feet away. Some of my favorite cameras have more to do with past experiences and some are just enjoyable to use. I have to go with the Nikon FM. I made a living with that camera for a while. Simple three lights metering, rugged, and you were the computer. I pulled some solid shots in a variety of conditions with that camera and some basic lenses. I got it when I traded my Hasselblad (which I had traded my Nikon F4s on) for a view camera just so I would have a 35mm SLR. The Nikon F4s was a favorite too. I referred to it as a really great manual focus camera as the autofocus at the time was slow and noisy. The Yashicamat 124 was a pretty fun, but basic medium format camera. These days though I have found that the digital camera I reach for most often is the Canon 6D. I did recently trade my Sony A7RII for a Canon 80D with looks to be a lot of fun. I don't really need 42 MP or want to buy a new computer to process those massive files. Not to mention you don't leave the house with the A7RII unless you have a pocket full of batteries. In the mirrorless line, I did keep my little Sony a5000 and a few basic lenses. I can't help it. It's just such a fun, small camera that can still produce some nice images. I did make the mistake of keeping a few basic Nikon lenses when I sold my D90 a few years ago. I had lenses, so I ended up getting a good deal on a Nikon D300. Used with a vintage lens or the 50mm f1.8 I do enjoy using it and those 12 MP images can still be enlarged a bit. Last on this long list. A truly fun camera that makes some pretty nice images is an old Canon 20D that has been converted to infrared. With the 40mm f2.8 pancake it is easy to haul around and it's almost like using an SLR again in operation. Even at 8MP it still makes some nice IR images. Not bad for a camera I paid just under $100 for. I don't shoot for a living now and haven't for a while. Though I have done a few portrait sessions outdoors with the Canon 6D. I like cameras that I bond with and when taking photos that experience is part of the joy.

Always wanted to shoot with the RB 67. A couple my favorites I did shoot with: the Polaroid SX-70. The most beautiful camera I ever had. Also the Olympus XA. A pocketable 35mm film camera. Such fun.

I used an M645 for almost 20 years until digital replaced it. I ran a Pro Lab for 20 years and had a place to run 120 along with the 10 thousand rolls of 110, 126, 135, 120 220.

The most fun camera I ever had was the Olympus OMD EM5. The camera with the most beautiful images straight out of the camera were my Fuji cameras; I had the X100F and especially loved the B&W ACROS mode, however I always found the images a bit soft. I now have the Fuji XT2 which is a great little camera. However, I'm looking again at the new X100V because I believe they have fixed the sharpness issue.

A 1972 Nikon F2 35mm film camera with a 36 exposure roll of black and white film and a 50mm f1.4 lens. You can shoot in photograph anytime of day or night with a f1.4 lens.The images you make with this set up are unmatched by any digital experience, and its a beautiful looking camera too. Send the film to get developed and scanned at the same time.

I absolutely love the Lumix GM1. I wish I hadn't sold it. It's so small and has really good image quality. It's hard to find because it's truly pocketable and can use any m4/3 lens!!!

My Z6ii with a fast 85 presently the Z85 1.8, I have candle light handheld portraits my D750 could never get, plus the Z 20 1.8 on this camera does amazing Astro work.

Always good to see the two of you. To be honest, when I read "of All Time", I was expecting older cameras and not the mirrorless variety. For me? Canon FTb, Kodak Z740, and Nikon D80. (none of which I use today - but they have such great memories.) Looking back, it seems people "upgrade" much faster today, often within the same year. Oh well, nobody wants to hear about "the olden days" I suppose - TY for your video, I appreciate your time.

I've had a few snapshotty cameras, but the SX520 was the first one I owned that could take decent photos and it got me interested in learning photography. Yeah, I have a better camera now, but I still use the 520 sometimes.

Loved my Sony RX1R because it took great candid photos. I also took my Yashica mat 124 to friends and family weddings as well as holidays, and noticed people taking photos of me using the camera probably to show off to their parents that there was a time traveller present from their time.

Olympus EM10IV - fits in my pocket, interchangeable lens, friendly retro design, in-camera battery charging and flip down (i.e. selfie) screen - it's the camera the EM10 was always intended to be. No PDAF but not a problem for me. I had a Sony A7ii for a while - and have kept the lenses so may go back to Sony again - but the Oly is the camera I always seem to have on me. Love the vid, guys - some fun cameras on there!! :-)

I used to own (and use) a Mamiya RB67 Pro S (got it in 1981) which is just so utterly good. One thing worth mentioning is that it is extended medium format (54x68mm negative size) so it is not cropped down like a Hasselblad negative was for a rectangular print. I do own a Leica D-Lux 7 which is really worth a look - only around £1,150 and there is so much you can do with it including editing RAW on the camera itself.

The EOS R5 is my fav all around camera. It’s a camera that feels as if it isn’t going to age, after a year of firmware updates it just works. 12 fps mechanical shutter is great at 45 mp. I love that R5 is made in the homeland of the company that designed it. That creates a connection with me to what is a cool instrument.

The RZ67 Pro-ii is my hands down favorite medium format film waster, the waist level finder does a great job of looking better than any LCD display ever with a possible exception being the new mini LEDs from Apple! Having the image presented upside down tripped me up at first but now it does a fantastic job of allowing me to focus on the arrangement of shapes within a composition rather than getting literal with the actual subjects. I carry it around handheld with no problem, one of the advantages of being a 6 foot five 200 pound human: I am my own mass stabilizer! One sad note, you’re going to find if you have the Polaroid back like I do for the system, prepare to spend $100 and up per pack of FP 100c. They discontinued it in 2016, I had made a large purchase of it prior to that because I heard through the grapevine the end was coming, and I ended up giving my stash of film away to a friend who is doing far more interesting things with it than I would have. That 6 x 7 frame though, I love how it almost does the composition for me, lots of examples of it on my Instagram account. And it’s a seamless round trip when I pick up the newly acquired hot rod GFX100S: even though one is a Fuji and one is a Mamiya, the cameras feel like they share common ancestry.

The camera I use the most and love to work with is the Nikon Z5. You can routinely find them on sale for a thousand dollars and the results are full frame goodness with Nikon colors along with two card slots and IBIS. While I use the ZFC adapter most of the time to be able to use my older F mount lenses, I bought a $90 Z mount, 35mm 1.4 manual focus lens from 7 Artisans that is so much fun to use, especially for street photography on a sunny day. Just set the F stop to F8 or greater and the in-focus depth of field is very wide. The images are bright, colorful, and fun taken with a full frame camera that is as light and compact as a Fuji XT3. The little lens has manual focus and aperture which combined with auto ISO and a reasonable shutter speed make it effortless to shoot. I don't have to think about settings when walking around, just point and shoot. The 7 Artisans company now has a 0.95 lens for Nikon Z that would be fun to try.

One of my all-time favorite cameras was the Minolta Vectis Weathermatic Zoom. It was a great camera for paddlesports and float fishing trips before the digital cameras.

Nikon FM with 35mm f/2 and 85mm f/2 AIS lenses. Great light weight and compact system with tank-like reliability. The FM was the successor to the Nikkormat and was Nikon’s answer to Olympus’s OM1 line of compact cameras in the late 1970’s. Shot with this for over 30 years with NO problems.

You can actually at a 1.4x tele conversion lens on the Fuji which brings it to 50 mm equivalence without any loss of speed. It is TCL-X100II

I'm pretty sure the real reason for the RB/RZ rotating back is because a waist level viewfinder is a little hard to use when your camera is on its side. :D

Sounds plausible. I ended up selling a 645 back for my Hasselblad for that reason: using the waist level finder in portrait orientation is literally a pain in the neck, and the 45° prism finder doesn’t improve the experience much. I only use 6x6 film backs now.

I have a Fujifilm X-S10 which of course is APSC. So, I picked up a tilt/shift adapter and a bunch of glorious old Nikon Nikkor full frame lenses to use with it. I primarily tilt with the adapter and use it expand my depth of field. It’s great fun to shoot in a dark environment wide open with the AiS 50mm f1.2 and pull this targeted focal plane at f1.2 or 4. It is also useful in landscape photography if you want a sharp foreground, too. The lenses are easy to get CLAed if needed and you end up some really nice stuff relatively inexpensively.

First camera I got was an Olympus OM-1 SLR. Was a hand me down from my father, got it in the 80's. I could never surpass the quality of pics I took with that OM-1 even though it's a fully manual camera.

I use a Bronica GS-1, 6x7 medium format no rotating back but it's light enough to handhold with a Speedgrip to easily switch orientations. I develop black&white at home, fun and saves substantially on cost.

My all time fav is my current Nikon Z7. It is my do it all camera. But I have to give homage to the Fujifilm X-T1. It got me back into photography with its old school look and satisfyingly tactile dials, shutter buttons, etc.

My "carry everywhere" camera is the Ricoh GRIII. APSC sensor with in-body image stabilisation. (Same as the Pentax K70 dSLR). Fixed 18.5mm lens. Pouch to hand on my belt. Rear-screen viewing. Simple right-handed-only operation. Range of options to make it the ultimate street photography and general snapshot camera. (My main camera is the R5 with several lenses).

I love shooting my Mamiya 645super with AE prism finder. In 35mm terms I usually use Pentax mz-5n that I bought 20-something years ago. But usually I'm taking Sony a7 iii or - if weight is an issue - Olympus OM-D E-M10 ii. With all cameras I use trio of lenses: 35, 50 and 85mm - read in 35mm film terms, so 55, 80, 150 for M645 and 17, 25, 45 for OM-D series.

For me its the Rolleiflex TLR and the Rollei 35s tied. Fixed Carl Zeiss lenses, German, portable, tank build, and they're also gorgeous.

I am using LEICA Q2 as a daily camera, and the A7IV. I had to sell my 850, but as it is starting to be very cheap again, I will buy it again with a 14-24 and 70-200 from Nikon. As Chelsea told it, the dynamic range of the D850 is still the best.

Good for YOU Chelsea for putting Tony in his place regarding the Nikon D850!! ;) It is STILL a great camera!! Ahh...and if it has been good enough for the brilliant David Yarborough and his incredible art...it is obviously an outstanding DSLR and continues to be! Not everything has to be mirrorless. It's a tank in all the right ways! And oh gee--it's doesn't have eye detect! AWWW! And what was with your hubby during this?! He looked completely out of it on this video--tired, or high as a kite?! ;) A terrific choice!!

Great and thoughtful video as usual . Drone use is very restricted here in NZ , I’ve seen tourists ruin tranquil spots for everyone using them illegally but I agree what they offer is hard to resist and add a quality to vlogs that is just so cinematic. Like Chelsea, the Nikon D850 remains one of my all time favourite cameras. But much like Tony’s Leica experience, I also spend a bit of my photography time shooting 35mm film, just enjoying the moment and waiting for results down the road. I have a dozen film cameras, but the Nikon FM3a, is a whole lot of fun in a small package. Speaking of small, one of my other favourite walkabout cameras is the Sony RX100V. Not much bigger than a pack of cards, but a ton of great tech/results. I love my Z cameras too. So many cameras….Nikon F2, F3,F100….Minolta X-700….its really difficult to play favourites!

Yes. I have the SD Pro, and I can't remember what the difference is, but yeah. It's a learning curve for sure but I shoot black and white with mine and get fantastic results. You're going to love the results. I'm like Tony, I love the rotating back.

I don't own one, but the Hasselblad X1D has a beautiful form factor and excellent UI. With a unique leaf shutter and medium format sensor, it should be on any camera nerd's aspirational list.

I recently started shootig with a film and i have fallen in love with my Nikon FE. Such a fun experience to shoot and quite easy because it has automatic light metering, so for a beginner it's a good choice. The bodies are inexpensive and the old common lenses even cheaper.

Mavic Air 2s is turning into my most productive landscape camera. The Z7 is always with me, but I end up getting the most interesting perspectives from the drone even when it is only 10 to 30 feet above. I am trading up to the Mavic 3 classic for the sensor, the battery, and the adjustable aperture. Remember the drones are always on a virtual tripod with the three way gimbal and gps technology.

Thanks very much for your excellent videos I have a Nikon Coolpix P100 and I had not used it for some time now when I light pt up I have to set the date & time and I thought after that it would keep the date and time but each time I put the battery in it asks for the date again does this camera not have a backup internal battery or as it become unusable and needs replacing, thanks Tony & Chelsea Roy Dunstan

I love the RB67! I have all the versions first 70’s pro, pro S, pro S lizard, pro SD raised name, pro SD Asian version flat name, pro SD gold with most of the lenses. Trick is to find ones not professionally used, the tripod plate is a good indicator

My favorite cameras are the R5 and R6 I own right now. For sentimental reasons, I wish I still had the Canon AE-1 that was my first SLR, or the Kodak Instamatic 104 that my uncle gave me as my first new camera almost 60 years ago.

My preferred landscape setup for FF is the Nikon z7ii with the 14-30mm f4, 24-120mm f/4, and 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6. I use Nikon kit for longer hikes. I just traded in my D850 and the Z9 should (hopefully) be here next week. I'll use the Z9 for portraits. Also on order is the 400mm 2.8 with TC, which will likely take 6-8 months to arrive. Can't wait!

Sure, if you stick to cameras that even today go for $2,000 to $5,000, you'll love the Leicas and the Nikon D850 or Nikon Df, but what about an outstanding camera for $500 or less? I've had my beloved Nikon FE for 43 years now, and it still works flawlessly and takes marvelous photographs using a variety of superb Nikkor AIS lenses. I paid $350 for it brand new with 50mm f/1.8 in 1979. For digital photography, I will never part with my Olympus PEN E-P5. It has an extremely good 16 mPx m4/3 sensor and more features and modes than any camera really needs, including a 1/16,000 shutter. It's small and rugged as well though not too lightweight, has exceptional 5-axis IBIS and produces beautiful images under virtually all conditions. I bought mine in mint condition for $267 with 14-42mm kit zoom about 3 years ago just so I wouldn't need to lug around my big, heavy yet gorgeous Nikon DSLR, and I simply fell in love with that little PEN. I love it so much that I use it 80% to 90% of the time now though I will also never part with any of my Nikons.
