As a professional who has used the Sony A6300, A6400, A73, A74, and currently the A7S3 I can honestly say that the A73 is the best camera Sony has put out. Just last fall, I happened upon a used A7 III with a low shutter count. Try as I might to justify trading it in for a new or used A7 V, I really can’t. The A7 III menu system is bonkers (but worked-around with customization) and the screen that doesn’t flip is odd (but I prefer the EVF, anyway).

After decades as a Pentaxian, I eventually switched to Fujifilm (X-T2, then X-T4) and, a few months back, a Sony A7C. I didn't plan to go with Sony but I found the A7C in classifieds for a ridiculously low price. I couldn't resist. I like the size and, with a compact or pancake lens, it would be perfect to do street of travel photography. In all honesty, I have been looking at a camera that would help me compensate for my shaking hands and failing eyesight. Then Sony came out with the A7IV and the A7RV. I went with the latter. I turn 69 in 2 weeks and I decided that I could make a few $acrifice$ and treat myself for this type of camera. I have 2 say that the A7RV is the best one for me so far! Really enjoying it, even though it may be too much camera for me.

One of the great things about the a6600 is its size. Plus the apsc lens line up is great. Pair it with the highly rated 70-350 zoom and whatever Sony or third party lens to fill in the wide range (for example the tamron 17-70) and you have a compact kit for travel photos. I just purchased the R100VII for my sister and in getting it set up I discovered just how much power is packed into this tiny Point And Shoot camera. I shoot with a Nikon Z7 II and to say I was impressed by the AF system in this Sony is a HUGE GIANT UNDERSTATEMENT. I now understand why the Sony has such a great reputation of it's AF system. Nice overview, you two. One thing I recommend you include in your next review is the key difference in weight between APS-C and full frame systems. The APS_C bodies WITH their respective lens system are often smaller and lighter, and choosing a higher resolution sensor camera could put you on a par with some full-frame systems, something a landscape photographer hiking up mountains could appreciate.

Tony already has some fantastic content comparing sensor sizes. It would be nice to see a video that does a practical comparison of Sony's APS-C and FF systems based on the lenses available for each, and the use cases each are optimal for. Most photos and videos can be taken by APS-C size sensors just fine. It's at the extremes (widest angle, widest aperture, and/or lowest ISO) where FF truly makes a difference. FF also produces sharper results on average since LW/PH is higher for a larger image circle by default due to optical physics/economics.

I love how compact and portable they are and I love the amount of 3rd party lens support they've had in the last several years, the days of adapting lenses are done I think. I do wish Sony would do something about the ergonomics though, would it kill Sony to add a joystick to their APS-C bodies? That control layout is mostly unchanged since the A6000 9 years ago.. My typical client shoot setup has been a static FX9 and a moving FX3 on a gimbal (mostly weddings so far, a couple documentaries, and some training videos). I decided on those cameras because I had a semester of University funds leftover due to circumstances around 2020 (take a guess), and I had the choice of either down paying student loans or investing in nicer equipment I needed for school anyways but could use for professional situations as well. While new life choices and adventures have led me to not use them as much for client work, I still love them and use them a lot for personal projects ^_^ I won't lie though, the A1 is very tempting, though I kinda want to wait for the next generation of it since my current gear is doing me good in most every situation and I have been able to adjust my shots enough to get what I need.

Thank you, amazing video. I still shoot with the A73, but I'm longing for some fresh air .. especially bc I got the new 70-200GMII. I'm eyeing the A7R5 now... but I hesitate because I know that in 2 years it might as well be outdated again...

I'm still using the A7R2 and though I spend a lot of time looking at the R5 I spend even more being happy with what I'm getting from the R2. I'd recommend it still as it's a steal used. All the bells and whistles? No, not even dog eye, but it's a great entry point to get going, to build up your lenses, and to figure out what the next step will be and why.

Guys, great summary of the upper end of the market but what about the RX range? My daily is my RX100 VII, sure it’s a 1” sensor etc etc but it’s the camera I take almost everywhere because of its size and capabilities. There is also the RX10 IV, and before you choke on your coffee it’s a great camera for someone like my wife who enjoys photography but doesn’t want to become involved with multi lens cameras. Every photographer is different and Sony have some great entry level and casual amateur cameras for those who aren’t satisfied with smart phones, thank you Sony

I have the A9 and I use it for wildlife because I want the 20 fps. For landscapes, I kept my older A7Rii. I was considering the A1, but for that much money, I want what Olympus/OM systems calls ProCapture. Get with the program, Sony. I'll upgrade when Sony add's ProCap. Otherwise, I'm using my Olympus for wildlife that might move and offer me great launch shot.

Another great video guys! I am still head over heels in love with my a7siii after 2 and a half years. I do wish that Sony would give us a firmware update with focus breathing comp and animal eye in video, but other than that, I feel like my camera is still one of the best in class for video, and I am STILL blown away by the footage I take. Best camera I ever owned by far! I primarily shoot video but it works really well for me as a hybrid, the photos I get are excellent quality especially when paired with my Sony glass. I do also have a cheeky Fuji XT4 which I adore for photo only shoots when I want to feel a bit old school, but my a7siii is my go to and my pride and joy. What I adore about Sony cameras is autofocus. rarely missing a shot is huge when you are low on time, light is changing or you are filming out in the real world you have no control over. And yes I agree the 9 million dot viewfinder is INSANE and that is why I would still pick the a7siii over the ZV-E1 or FX3 every time - I use it all the time when shooting outside and it's critical in sunshine and even more so in places like beaches where there is a lot of sun and ambient reflection. I don't think the viewfinder gets talked about enough! Can I just quickly mention HLG and HDR production - I got into this last year on my a7siii and now shoot all my real estate in HLG3 and its looks INSANE. I'm kinda shook that more people aren't producing HDR content online, as Dolby Vision video will automatically play in SDR if no HDR screen is detected it's a win win and KZbin fully supports it you just upload one HDR file that's it! Anyway sorry went off piste it just looks SO GOOD! Love watching your videos because I am just so into camera gear and love geeking out with you, I feel part of the club I know that's sad 🤣

I think the best camera is what one presently owns and learns how to use. I have had a Sony a6500 for nearly 5 years and I am still learning how to use it and I take lots of photos and videos of the grandkids and family events. It’s much better than a phone camera. I do like the built-in flash. It’s not perfect but it has a great response time compared to a hot shoe flash and the results (at least for me) are comparable. Plus, less cumbersome to carry around. I looked at upgrading to the a7C but with the lenses I already have I could not justify the investment even with trading in my camera body and lenses. If a made a living with photography, I certain my response would be totally different. I enjoy your videos. I’ve picked up some useful hints/techniques to improve my photography. When shooting grandkids and family parties there is not time to stage a photo (no one wants to cooperate). It becomes one of those “now or never” moments. Thanks for you videos.

I've owned a number of Sony cameras over the years, but my favorite one thus far is the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10IV. With a built-in 24-600mm equivalent lens that is sharp throughout the range, it's great for when you need to travel light. The RX10 line hasn't been updated for many years despite the rumors, but it's still great for so many shooting situations. Sony, if you're listening, I'm still looking for an RX10V.

Right now A7III is only $1698 at B&H and elsewhere, $300 off . The A7iii is STILL a highly relevant camera today and a bargain at this price point. I have brought a lot of my gear off your reviews and recommendations, so thank you for all your advice and in depth information. I brought Sony A7R iii after you reviewed it upon its release. I’m considering upgrading to Sony A7R V, but disappointed that to shoot 10 FPS, I would have to drop to Lossy instead of Uncompressed Raw. I note you mention 30 FPS a lot with your a1’s ( which is Lossy) are shooters losing much information shooting Sony Lossy vs uncompressed raw for wild life/Sports. My consideration for upgrading to Sony A7r V is for African Safari in September, where a1 is out of my budget, but 10 FPS is minimum I would want if upgrading. Thank you again for all your content

It's by far the most productive camera I've ever owned, with amazing AF hit acquition times and amazing tracking. Would kill for the A7RV style flip screen to allow me to shoot more easily from a low-to-the-ground or above-my-head perspective in portrait aspect ratio. Other than that, it's been gold.
