Jason, you're the BEST Presenter and Explainer on KZbin. I've watched many videos complaining about the confusion of Sony camera models. However, those videos tell an incomplete picture , don't have enough illustrations and they are presented as more of a rant than an official presentation. On the contrary, yours have beautiful, easy-to-read illustrations, is better organized, more visual, and complete. After watching yours, I now have a complete grasp of those models and know exactly what I should buy. Long live Jason!

I got 50, 85mm f1.8 + 20-60mm f3.5-5.6 lenses and camera body brand new for just £2389. My previous considerations for the camera was Fujifilm X-T5, X-H2, Sony A7 IV, A6700, ZV-E1. Congrats. The Lumix S5IIx is amazing and was something I considered for upgrading after 9 years of A7RII (though I ended up with the Nikon Z8) - the excellent stabilization and video features (eg: open gate), combined with good stills makes the Lumix it a relative steal at $1200 USD in my personal opinion.

First I would look for whatever reason I would want to buy a camera! Hobby or professional, Screen or printing stuff, normal printing or high end printing like fine art.. with other words, does it make sense to buy a Sony A7RV for shooting images to display on the internet? I really tink one should carefully consider how to spent his money. Going along with big brands like Sony and Canon just because of the new juicy features of the very expensive new releases very often result in a very expensive paper weight that is going to be sold almost unused for a fraction after a couple of years... So my advice is to read, read and read, compare read and watch all videos you can find on youtube and last but not least, use your common sense, that way you will spent your money right and enjoy the camera of your choice a full 100%. Great Video Jason, congrats!

i've considered the A7C line a lot for its compact size and full frame sensor. But at the same time i feel like needing the bigger bulkier full frame lenses kinda defeat the purpose of having a smaller body
@davidligon60888 ай бұрын
Very well done. With so many models coming out, especially the video models, this is very timely. However, despite the A7RIII having my favorite Sony sensor, I would recommend the A7RIV over the A7RIII, for experienced photographers for the following reasons (I own and use both). The A7RIV has: better focus and tracking capabilities, more cropability (especially significant for wildlife and sports), 26 megapixel APS-C mode (vs 20 megapixel for the A7RIII), noticeably better button design and ergonomics, Continuous AF (auto focus) up to f/11 (vs only f/8 for the A7RIII), improved tracking notification in the viewfinder, 16 shot pixel shift (instead of 4 shot for the A7RIII), and compatibility with Sony’s small Bluetooth remote (not compatible with the A7RIII), and more remote controls with Sony’s phone app. All that said, the A7RIII has: a quieter shutter, and is more forgiving when the settings are not correct, and may be better for less experienced photographers. The 60 megapixel of the A7RIV shows motion blur much easier than the 42 megapixel sensor, so the shutter speed must be higher. The image is more susceptible to noise, especially in shadow areas when under exposed, and the depth of field is effectively shallower because you can see out of focus areas easier when zoomed into 100%.
@enrico135958 ай бұрын
3:52 - cit. "Bigger sensor means we get more background blur" Could you please explain why this is true? Thank you
@cameraprepper79388 ай бұрын
Because of longer focal length compared to smaller sensor cameras.
@enrico135958 ай бұрын
@@cameraprepper7938 Thank you for your answer. It is still not really clear to me how that is physically possible. TLDR; It seems that this sentence is misleading as it will require other parameters to be affected, and sensor size alone would not make a difference. Here is my analysis, please let me know if I am missing something: Background blur depends on depth of fields (the distance between the nearest and the furthest objects giving a focused image) which depends on focal lenght. Focal lenght is the distance between the centre of a lens (or curved mirror) and its focus, therefore it does not depend on sensor size. Altought in Photography it is often said that using smaller sensor increases the focal lenght, it does not seems to be the truth physically, as we are just applying a crop to what would be the full-size sensor. We are not actually changing the focal length (50mm lens remains a 50mm lens even on a APS-C sensor, we are just adding a crop to its image result). Here is an interesting article that talks about this (in photography terms): fstoppers.com/education/understanding-how-sensor-size-affects-depth-field-312599

Great overview Jason! But my guess is that Sony somehow fears that camera could cannibalize their lens sales, specifically the GM sales 🤔 And an even more unicorn wish would be a retro camera like Nikon Zf, Fujifilm etc. 😅. Sony bought Minolta back then, but that won’t happen i guess.

IMO A7IV is the best bang for the buck, especially if second hand from a dealer in min condition. I would avoid the A6700, as it's as big, but doesn't have joystick, and only size difference is the view finder. A7R V is pricier, more megapixels, better screen as it's fully articulating, it flips out, and tilts up, But the one on A7IV scares me, seems so fragile. So if extreme angles or flipping up and down is still needed you can use a phone in a holder, and if using a cage that will be even more robust option. I only use the flip out screen when I have to. But if you ever trip over it you will likely snap it off. But I'm still not sure if If I made a mistake image quality wise with the A7IV vs the A7R V. But I got mine fo a good price. so was a no brainier. The a7IV still gives massive high quality images. Low light performance is superb. I don't regret it. Got a 24-70 GMII used from a dealer too. Only complaint I have with it is it a dust magnet, it gets dust inside the glass too, But that's common with zoom lenses. If I was rich I would get the A9III for sports. But the A7iv isn't bad. but with the massive price tag of the models past it, like the a9III it's simply silly of me to buy it.
