We are quite well practised in making the most of a tricky situation. And the one that crops up time and time again is 'how do I train if I can't get to the gym?'
The truth is climbing is best, but not always an option. So putting together a home training session that can substitute is often the best solution. In today's episode we run through a full-body training session that can act as an example or template for your own home training. For when getting to the gym is not an option.

I absolutely agree with your Dog at 3:24 , you forgot to include more cardio in your routine, as he so elegantly demonstrates. I guess he has in mind cycling or a walk in the Peak with him:)

As a Border Collie it's actually quite an extensive cardio routine. Each day starts with 45 minutes of cardio including hill sprints and "chase the squirrel". Then in the evening there is an indoor warm-up of catching the toys and tugging the rope, followed by another 30 minute park run.

@@LatticeTraining I'm surprised he's not joining you for your floor exercises, mine is very excited by anything like this!

It's cool to see the wrist wrench as part of your grip arsenal. I've seen that mostly to train for arm wrestling.

Yeah it's definitely inspired by other sports but there are growing thoughts in the climbing community that climbers will benefit from putting more time into strengthening wrists this way. My anecdotal evidence is that it's quickly improved my ability on macro holds, slopers and compression. I've got a trip early next year to a sandstone climbing destination (lots of slopers) so this intentionally programmed in.

I'd love to see the grip parts of this done with the same gear, but only using a pull-up bar instead. All those tools are great looking, but I haven't got weights (other than my body) to lift.

How long did you spend cleaning and tidying before filming? 😅

We've just moved into a new home and the novelty has not worn off, it's actually normally this tidy (for now). However our dog sheds a lot so there was a fair amount of vacuuming and dusting.

interesting content! I've a specific question about lattice Training tool Mini Bar: it's possible with it train open hang 4 finger and the front/back opne hang 3 fingers, in addition to half crimp? Thanks!

Thanks 😊. You can train all these different grip positions with a Mini Bar.

Great one thanks ! What's that pull up bar it looks really nice ?! Unlike mine which is also removable but doesn't has this offset
@LatticeTraining
@LatticeTraining Жыл бұрын
This was a gift so I didn't buy it. I think the brand is RPM power. The offset is great, no risk of pulling your head into the door frame and it sits higher up, so more floor clearance.

What is a good total amount of weight plates to have for these non-hangboard exercises, would half of bodyweight do? And what sort of increments and progression is best used (e.g. 1/2/5kgs etc)? Tah
@LatticeTraining
@LatticeTraining Жыл бұрын
Good question. It depends on your starting strength. Its common to pick up less than you hang. E.g if you can hang >70% of your bodyweight on one arm on a hangboard you might max out at
@snake_plant

@@LatticeTrainingthanks I'll experiment. I was actually looking to mimic simple two-hand bodyweight hangboarding as best as possible with these one-handed grips for daily prehab/rehab in line with your pulley strain video (nowhere to fix hangboard and hanging portables too unstable)

What's the rest time between reps for crimp training?
@LatticeTraining
@LatticeTraining Жыл бұрын
If you are going for 10 second pick ups, a good option is 1 minute rest between hands. that allows for 2 minutes in total.

Within a specific grip type, 2 mins of rest between each set is clear 👍 but what rest time would you recommend for switching between grip types? I’m thinking maybe longer than 2 mins so as to give a higher quality max effort for your next grip, or do the muscles/tendon structures work relatively independently and quality is still maintained? Also, just wondering whether is it actually good to go for 4 max hangs in a single session? 😅
@LatticeTraining
@LatticeTraining Жыл бұрын
Quite a bit depends on intensity of the session. Resting 2-4 minuets between grip types is fine in most cases. Although its often called 'max hang' I am only lifting at about 80% on 1RM. I rarely train or prescribe absolute max efforts during a training block. So you should feel recovered after 2 minutes. By "4 max hangs in a single session" I assume you mean 4 grip position? Training different grip positions can be really effective and fatigue does not carry over as much as you might expect. Especially if you are including pinch and wrist training. And it will depend on training history. At one point I build up to training 8 grip positions in a single session (I was unable to do much climbing during this time).
@andrewlaw822
@andrewlaw822 Жыл бұрын
Appreciate the reply! I’ve been splitting my grips across multiple days for like ‘the best effort/quality’, but it’s just so much more convenient to bunch them together in a session. Definitely will bring each load down to 80-85% 1RM, and will try out this 1-day hangboard session 💪
