Dan, I find it unbelievable that each piece of music you choose I actually like. Unbelievable because I'm 70 and you quite obviously are not. I too enjoy Dan's choice of music and I'm 71. I google the lyrics to find out who the artist is then I play the song. I know some of the songs off by heart now. It's mostly feel good upbeat music

Clean up the fire damage debris and put plastic tarps over the various exposed roof areas. Rain water on the debris makes more weight to the already compromised damaged floor. Also, don't poke or enlargen any more holes in the floor.

Curious to know why he chooses to 'fell' the trees by cutting so high up, all the trees that I have 'felled' (including massive ancient elms) I have cut at ground level.

@@pcka12 Most of the time Nick is taking down trees growing near other trees or growing inside Dans chateau. He being strategic and just careful not to hit other trees or get them snagged on other trees when they fall. He did take down Stephanie Jarvis’s big red wood at Chateau Le Lande by cutting at the bottom. He also spent 2 weeks clearing a path for where he wanted the tree to fall. He did that like early summer last year. It was amazing to see.

@@hungrygrl333 yes, but it is likely that there is 'method in his madness', I simply haven't worked it out. If you cut of a tree at a height of 4 or 5 feet there is a heavy lump of wood which is going to fall that distance & sometimes a trunk can end up protruding behind the stump which you have just created because you cannot really predict the 'spring effect' of branches as they strike the ground.

If you put a sturdy tarp on the basement floor, its a little easier to gather the debris below. merely a suggestion.

Your best and likely easiest option is to shore up the floor in the basement with supports and plywood at least a section at a time until it is cleared. Beats digging out the basement ... again. Great work! Cheers

The photos are from right prior to the fire which is way past its prime. It's prime would have been shortly after completion. The photos are still extremely valuable as otherwise you're just guessing what everything looked like.

#1. You can't get the basement secure while that crap is hanging above you. There is a huge amount of missing concrete which should have been the sub-floor. #2 Thats basically compost on the floor above and that part is open to the weather. That holds moisture, which weighs a lot. The longer you leave it the more and more unsafe the basement becomes. #3 If you want to do anything to help support the floors above, you really shouldn't have any weight above you as you try to shore up the basement and replace the sub-floor. The best option is probably to work carefully and get as much off that floor as possible, and then cover it with new wood. Either some sort of beams, or if the steel can support it, just plywood. In any case, it has to come out as quickly as possible. Thats my opinion at least from a very considerable distance. Good luck, and be safe.

Watching Nick with the digger reminds me of the men who weren't allowed to help out here in Christchurch following our massive earthquake 11 years ago. One of our tall, badly engineered buildings had collapsed and a fire started. These men were so skilled with a digger that the head guy said, "We're so precise, we can even pick up a china teacup without breaking it." Sadly, because of the bumbling leadership for the rescuing of over a hundred precious souls, I think around 136 people perished, one of whom was a friend of mine. But if those skilled men had been allowed to continue to help, perhaps this may not have been quite so tragic. Wow, how totally amazing to see pictures of the chateau pre-fire! 🔥 And yes...just who was that lady near the chateau in the long coat appearing a disappearing as you talked about the history of the fire? 🤔☺ Love, Jacqueline from New Zealand
