Stelios Kiosses and his team tackle the excesses of former Coronation Street actress Tricia Ford (Pauline Walsh), whose house is infested with rats, making her too embarrassed to invite friends over. The psychotherapist also meets a jazz enthusiast whose burgeoning music collection has left his girlfriend with no room to stay.

I'm so happy that this show doesn't put the hoarders on display like other shows I've seen. When I watch other shows, it feels like they're really just there to shame the people and then clean their stuff without actually helping them. But I think it's great that this show promotes compassion and teaches people that there are proper ways to help people who become hoarders. If I were a hoarder and I watched this, I think I might be encouraged to reach out to someone for professional help.

If you'll notice, the US versions have homeowners in a crisis situation. They're usually about to lose their homes. So, they have to clear the homes first and offer them aftercare funds to continue therapy and organization learning.

@@B_Bodziak no, they don't offer them any aftercare or actual therapy. this is why 90% of the people on US hoarders relapse. they only get a small talent fee for being on the show, and only because in certain states its the law.

@@MsMoonDragoon One US show I've watched a lot, A&E, offers after care for the hoarder and sometimes for family members as well. It's quite often an urgent situation, but not always, and it's only over about 4 days, with on-the-spot counselling.

The husband David...he seems like a person that is a part of the things that hold this woman back to move on. He will not be able to really cope...because if she heals and moves on, he has to move on too. And that means finding own purpose and not just blaming her all day and have an own journey. Sometimes people, despite liking each other, are not good for each other.

There are a few differences with the UK version of Hoarders (when compared to the US version). The UK version really focuses on therapy and helping the individual. The US version only devotes the very beginning (and end) to therapy with giant dumpsters and moving vans and "junk trucks" taking over the Hoarder's home. It's just very interesting to compare and contrast the two versions. The UK version also focuses more on relationships and people as well (and not on the mess, if that makes sense). I enjoy both shows, but I find myself feeling more uplifted after watching the UK version! :)
@B_Bodziak

The US version has people who are in a crisis and about to lose their homes. They are limited to clearing the house first and then doing therapy afterwards. None of the homeowners on the British shows are faced with the city condemning their houses or having adult services called.

He met his match in a few of the hoarders and was unable to get some of them to part with much/most or any of their hoard... So now it's "it's a 6 week course and if they're ready then they get cleaners to come help" 😅

Growing up, my sisters always made fun of me, and when I got married and got my own place, they continued to make a joke of it. My husband gets aggravated if I reorganize something, and then he cannot find it. I tell him if I have moved something. Therefore, keeping my house very neat has always brought up feelings of shame. I am going thru a session of cleaning and organizing that I do every spring, and these feelings have washed over me again. It is just the opposite of the people in this show!! That being said, people can hoard things without being actually dirty and unhygenic... it's possible to keep things, but in an organized way. A lot of extreme couponers are like that. They hoard soooo much stuff, but they have racks, cupboards, etc... a lot of storage spaces for things, and still keep things clean & wipe things down.

He's been living with his wife's problems for a long time, and probably gone through many attempts to help her. I have a lot of magazines but they are used for college projects and many are donated to schools for the kids to use for art projects too. Cutting and putting together figures really helps kids with low self esteem to built confidence that they too can do art and make wonderful things out of nothing. If the items are clean donate them to arts and crafts schools. 🤔
