We saw The Righteous Brothers in Vegas many years ago and were seated in front of Mr. Medley in those curved red velvet love seats. My husband and I were arguing and I started to cry as they started this song. Somehow Mr. Medley saw this and stood right in front of me and learned down. Sublime!! Then a bucket of champagne was delivered courtesy of Mr. Medley.

In the early 1980s, I was working on a copier in Bill Medley's office. I wasn't thinking about Bill Medley was. As I tended to do, I was singing along with the radio and "You've Love That Lovin' Feelin" came on. About 2/3 of the way through the song, I turn around and who is standing there but Bill Medley. I recognized him immediately. I wanted to sink through the floor,I was so embarrassed. He gave me a big smile, said "not bad", and went on his way.

"You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" is one of the greatest songs of all-time. It's such a classic. Just about everyone knows this song and loves it. It's one of those songs that when you hear it on the radio, you just have to join in and sing along. I've always considered the Righteous Brothers as one of the best duos of the rock era. I would rank them in my top 5 alongside The Everly Brothers, Hall & Oates, Simon & Garfunkel, and The Carpenters. Also, during the 1960's, Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil were one of the legendary songwriting teams that worked at the Brill Building in New York that also included Gerry Goffin & Carole King, Neil Sedaka & Howard Greenfield, and Jeff Barry & Ellie Greenwich.

My parents divorced each other for the 2nd time in 76 yet remained good friends. One day out of the blue about 20 yrs ago my Dad calls me and says "I'm sending you some money. I want you to buy tickets to the Righteous Brothers show at SMU's McFarlin Auditorium and take your mom." Wow... I'll be 57 next month and have seen 1/2 the artists you cover but that show gets more and more special in my mind every year... They were amazing. This channel is becoming a musical institution. Adam, a line you said, while talking with Mann and Weil about the value of liner notes on the old LP covers, made me realize why I so love watching your channel. Please keep the energy flowing and I’ll stay connected to “three chords and the truth.”

PapaJBW, I was also caught for the same sentence and idea about us, the very grown up people that used to listen our records, our LPs, alone or with friends and family, looking at the album photos, notes and all that. This is a wonderful song! One I have sung for years! It's a heart-ripper. Car, shower, garden, house, office...I have loved this song with my voice since I first heard it! And good as all the other artists are, and they ARE good, Bill Medley is the best of all. It is like each note, each word, was constructed specifically for him. This video is one of the best you have done to date. You brought out the real people behind the starshine. Listening to each interview, I felt I was sitting back with friends, reminiscing our youthful adventures over coffee. Seriously, if y'all came over, I'd break out the good brew and we would talk. I am always amazed how a young kid like you can take me back to the 50s, listening to my sister's radio on a Sunday night, or bring back how I would turn up my transistor radio when the Beatles came on. It was pretty standard for pop songs to be 2:50 in length. A lot of artists deliberately put the incorrect time on there in order to get it played. Ticket to Ride was 3:03 and listed under 3 minutes. Yes, I love both this version, and Hall and Oates' iteration. Of course, the pilots in "Top Gun" also had a notably fun sing along!

I was at a Eric Burden concert at Humphrey's by the Bay in San Diego... they announced that 'You've Lost that Loving Feeling' was the most played record ever! Also... Eric was named England's all-time rhythm & blues singer.

This record has become a standard for basically any genre to pick up and master. Professor, you're proving this by showing all the different people that have been touched by this song, including Lamont Dozier, the producer Phil Spector, and Bill Medley himself. It's no surprise that this song as one of the most successful covers for any band or artist, and that it has as many air plays as it does. I think the most surprising element of this song is how Barry Mann had so many hits with and without Cynthia Weill, and this is the cream of the cream.

Barry had a top 10 hit of his own a few years before the Righteous Brothers.

The Righteous brothers killed it of course, but The two octave aspect is accentuated in Long John Baldry’s duet version. Love that version too.

I was 12 when my 1st "too long for radio" controversy entered my consciousness a few years later - In-a-ga-da-vida, Iron Butterfly. wow, I still recall all the hoopla and some stations cut it down to play it as it was popular. my brother bought the album, so I finally got to hear it all. I knew you lost this loving feeling song of course but didn't know it had this issue. I recall it being confusing for people because of the various speeds in one tune but not the length.

Prof it would help the future people researching if you document the dates the interviews where done. I have seen many things pulled from old VH1 or other shows and no one can remember when the interview was done. You have a one of a kind database of the history of music.

@@GIBBO4182 Eight octaves on the scale? I honestly don't know what you mean but I'm interested. Do you mean octaves on a piano? There are 7 1/4 octaves on a piano (I had to look it up.) A scale is do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-do (A-B-C-D-E-F-G). Then it repeats over and over. I'm a singer so I really am interested in what you mean and what range these guys have.
