I have both sets.. Mine are not that crumbly... And I think it's worth it for the pearl set

I've used one of the Mungyo Pearl pastels on a coloring page printed on Bliss watercolor paper, and I can confirm that the pearlescent sheen is still present and beautiful after activation. Unfortunately, the color did bleed to the other side, but it might just have been my using too much water in my quest to activate every last crumb. (It didn't work, alas.) I've found it enjoyable to use, if a bit on the imprecise and messy side, as I generally prefer having a lot of control. At the low price point, it's worth a try.

I got a 12 pack of the regular ones to try out but I think next month I'm gonna get the pearl ones. I think you're absolutely gorgeous and I will make a good abstract piece.

I would have liked to seen them applied with a brush instead of directly to the page anyone tried that? I just grabbed the pearl for 12.99

I have, and this method does work better than applying it to paper first.

I dunno if I just didn’t wait long enough for the water to dissolve the binder, but I felt like theres an outer coating that prevents me being able to go from the outside of the crayon to the surface of the paper

Oil Pastels are my number 1 favourite art medium that where my love of art came from. the trick to any oil pastels, water soluble or not is that a little goes a long way. start off with small amounts and using your finger and blending tools and blend it out. also another good tip with any water soluble oil pastels to start with small amounts get a slight damp brush and move the colours around (it also depends o how pigmented the pastels are.)

Those are cute. I have their chalk pastels to use for backgrounds. I might get the pearlescent to use with my Lyra water soluble crayons. It'd give them a nice punch. I'd probably rub them on a palette or use my brush on the end to avoid the crumbs. I'm messy enough w/out crumbs. lol

I use the Crayola Porfolio water soluble oil pastels and love them. My 4 year old great granddaughter dips then in a bit of water and then colors with them. Lol! Now she won't use her crayons, she wants Meme's "crayons". I need to try the Mungyo ones with her.

Hi, I have those too. I have seen Crayola Signature water soluble oil pastels online but can not find a place where they are in stock. Even Crayola is out of them.

I like the price point on these for use in mixed media where the crumbles won't be that big of a problem for me. I'm loving the pearls but will be getting both sets because sometimes you just don't want that pearl shine. Have you reviewed the KingArt Studios Mixed Media Gel Sticks? I can't seem to remember. Horrors, my age is showing!

I think I might go for the 'pearl', although the brilliance of the 'assorted' is nice. I would try putting the 'pearl' over the 'assorted colors' to produce highlights would be interesting. I think that was so cute what Rose did when she 'prepared' her pillow, I thought that maybe she had taken lessons from the kitty!

You can color with them on a palette and pick the color with a brush, it works very well kinda like painting with gouache( also no crumbs).

Thanks for doing the pearls side by side. I have the 12 pack of the regular and they drive me a little nuts, but the pearls keep calling to me... it looks a bit like the pearls are a touch firmer, which is a bonus (because the "extra soft" is an understatement with these, feels like!)

I have the regular pastels of this set but passed on the pearl set (for now) because I already have the Crayola Signature Pearlescent Cream sticks. They were on clearance at Walmart for $3.50 a set a month or so ago so I got one and a spare. There are less colors though so I will probably get them too eventually.

If it’s watersoluble, can’t you just glue the “massive crumb” tip of the yellow by using water as glue? I do that with my shampoo bar after it falls and breaks, works like a charm. Maybe it works on crayons and watersoluble pastels as well

I have the pearl set and mine don’t seem to be crumbly , the price is great and I think they work as they were meant to . Maybe you got an older set?

I have never tried that brand. It does look way too messy for me. I have the Portfolio water soluble oil pastels, which look very similar. I thought they were the same. I don’t know about that anymore, because I definitely don’t get any crumbs. They don’t need much pressure, especially if you are using them with water. The water helps to smooth the blending. They blend together dry well without water.

My dear artist friend, any oil pastels shouldn’t be use with a lot of pressure on them, bc they are not like crayon colours to be use like the way you were demonstrating into this tutorials. The first layer should put with a light pressure then you built up layer on layers until the desire texture and it is true with watercolour oil pastels either. The pearl set is very pleasant to have and very useful in artwork of any kinds. Personally, I use them over my others oil pastels and they don’t crumble at all when you having good quality set for artists, when they are using with delicacy. I am a serious artist with oil pastels which I learned how to use them according to the fine art process like “WUNEMO art oil pastels” and others on KZbin. So I am inviting you to watch some of them how to use them properly!

I think either you got some defected or something sets, or (and I hate to say it because you're VERY talented), I think you pressed down much too hard. These are very soft, specifically the pearls. I'd give 'em a go again with less pressure. A lot goes a long way! Also to note: I haven't fully finished the video so I look forward to your thoughts as you color with them!
