I recognize some of those images in that internal catalogue booklet you showed at the end. They were used for a set of stickers that my brother and I had as kids. They were puffy stickers with kind of a plastic surface to them. There were some really neat sticker sets for all the toy lines back in the day. Some good memories. 😁

Your He-Man art: Those look like the black line overlays and blue line under painting of art by one of the original MOTU illustrators, Errol McCarthy. If you wanted a painted look, this was the process. Print the original line art on acetate, then print that same lineart in a light blue on art board. They would do all the coloring on the artboard and marry the two layers together for photography (thus the registration marks on the clear overlay). Very cool pieces. Art by McCarthy, Earl Norem, and Fredo Alcala claim top dollar. Great pieces! Edit: they might be by artist Fred Carillo also. Another early MOTU artist.

I remember you saying you didn't understand the hate towards WhatNot. My reason, as a seller myself, is they upped all their fees to a point where unless you're a big seller such as yourself, there's zero chance to make money unless I raise my prices. But I can't do that because the bigger people and stores with direct wholesale access can keep their prices much lower. It's for this reason I had to stop selling on WhatNot. They forgot about the people who made their site work, and went with the fast money.

Also, I got the ROTJ Imperial Shuttle for Christmas way back when, I can't help but think that wish list slot should have been for something else. It was like too big and heavy to be fun. What’s peoples opinions on collectibility of ‘vintage toys’ late 70’s, 80’s, 90’s in the far future? Do you think the next generations will find passion for these or will the nostalgia die out this us ? Some franchises like transformers & turtles will have Place due to the franchise’s still going strong today but will GI JOE, mask, mightymax, street sharks, MOTU countless other toy lines still carry a premium in 20 years or will the end up like tin toys or beanie babies?
@ichigen5117 ай бұрын
It's a fascinating question I don't think anyone can fortell but I feel like since the 70s there was so much hype for those toys that grandparents and great grandparents will be keeping the hype going and grandchildren and great grandchildren will still want to get a piece of history. I have a hard tie thinking Star Wars toys will ever be left in the dust but also to your point Star Wars is still alive because of Disney and will probably be around for hundreds of years. Who knows!
@brianrvd7 ай бұрын
Do you collect toys your parents and grandparents had?
@ichigen5117 ай бұрын
@@brianrvd No. But my comment was pointing out that the 70s was when toys became mainstream madness. There has NEVER been a toy line more obsessed on then Star Wars in 1977 and 1978. Christmas 1978 was the greatest Christmas of all time. Millenium Flacon, Tie Fighters. X-Wings, Sromtroopers, etc, etc, etc. The begining of the madness was 1978.

It does, but it also keeps things at that condition so accidental damage doesn't happen. It also gives a set condition on things (whether you agree or not) because I've seen comics graded way differently then they probably are. So it can be peace of mind.
