That was a different Rimmer. The original Rimmer left the crew to become the new Ace Rimmer, and the current Rimmer was recreated along with the rest of Red Dwarf by tiny little itty bitty robots.

I lost track of that myself but this one left me wondering, i thought rimmer hated his clone because they couldn't stand each other back in the episode Me2 back in season 1 so why would he create more clones of himself?
