Johnny was a great guy when he was straight, and a helluva musician. Hung out with him. Richard Hell and Dee Dee back in the old days. Sad that 2 of the 3 are gone. I miss em.

When was JT straight? Loved the music, yet, always thought he and all those in his orbit were kinda tragic. I don’t blame JT for the choices others made, but I had several friends that idolized and hung out with him. They all had pretty short lives.

I met Billy Rath when he was playing bass for Iggy in 1980. Lovely fella. Jim Kerr was on the guest list with his Simple Minds new band. Kerry slagged me off for my Motorhead patch. Billy right over and asked what was wrong. I just said , oh this idiot here doesn't like Motorhead. Billy said. Hey ,Lemmys a good pal of mine. Shut up or you're out. Cheers Billy. Never forget that. Iggy was really friendly too. Took time to talk, explain the TV Eye album cover. As being from Some Weird Sin. Great night. Top

Well, the drama of the personalities aside, the bottom line is this is flipping great and amazing rock and roll. Lotsa people don't get what that means, and many do, but it's about the spirit of the thing. Of the song and the musicians and how it all came together on that particular night, at that particular place.

Do you think Jerry was in 500 different bands because he enjoyed it?? They became a liability no label would risk signing them even though they had the potential to be huge you can't rely on a junkie to do anything on time. People same the nonsense about Kurt Cobain he didn't want the fame, etc, it's laughable. Kurt wanted to be able to be an active junkie and be in the biggest band in the world it's very hard to do both lol

Thankfully Walter cleaned up. He is the Heartbreakers in my opinion. All songs he wrote and sang on lamf are my faves... All by myself, get off the phone and one track mind are masterpieces

Totally agree! Walter and Jerry wrote those songs and Lure sings and plays most of the leads on those songs. The Waldos Rent Party cd is also awesome. Every time I seen them in the early '80's, Thunders was basically too wasted to play and Walter held up the fort. Rath on bass and Nolan on drums were also great. In this video I think that's Billy Rogers who was also solid

Johnny and Walter were the Heartbreakers to me, couldn’t have been done without either of them. Jerry was also the Heartbreakers, but Johnny and Walter had a nice contrast which made the group great. Jerry was the unspoken backbone to the group and once he was gone it wasn’t as good.

January 1983 Walter wasn't doing his Wall at gig yet. He was still a junky at this point. He started the financial gig after he hit rock bottom and moved back in with his parents. His dad urged him to clean up and got him and his brother the bank jobs in 1984.

And I've also heard Walter worked in the twin towers and the9/11, he was late coz he doesn't wake up like usual. Maybe the two stories are fake, don't know. But I'm sure Walter liked suits, and he loved R'n'R. He made me a better man with his great music, coz his music helped me to free my mind RIP Walter

Walter Lure worked in acquisitions on wall Street for over 30 yrs and retired a wealthy man.....in 1983 he was already working on wall Street and shooting dope . I believe he finally quit in 1989
