Combatting “Too Much Text” In Ads
If you’re advertising on Facebook or Instagram, chances are you’ve seen a message stating you have too much text in your ads and your impressions may be limited, or, your ads may not even run at all. It’s extremely frustrating and often times people don’t even have any text in their ads at all.
We make hundreds of ad creatives every week and have had a ton of practice and experience testing our ads to see why they get flagged for too much text and ways we can resolve that issue, especially when we have little or no text at all and Facebook’s AI tool is being wonky.
We have created our own free Text Checking Tool (www.nolimitcreatives.com/text...) which will allow you to upload an image of ANY size and let you click on the areas that contain text to determine what percent of your image contains text. This is not a guaranteed way to tell you if your ad will pass or not, since Facebook’s own tool is extremely unreliable, but it will tell you the percentage so you know and also shows you the grid to help you move text around in different areas to get your ad to pass.
In this video, I’ll show you some of the most common tricks we do to bypass the “too much text” error when running Facebook and Instagram ads. There are most likely other things we don’t know about or have not tried yet, but these handful of tricks seem to work for us every time.
TRICK #1: Devices In Ads
A lot of people now want to show devices in ads to display mobile apps, websites, videos, etc. But often times they get flagged because they have so much text in the mobile device.
TRICK #2: Too Much Contrast
Often times, people get a warning message that they have too much text in ads, when in fact, they have no text at all! This can happen if the photo you are using has too much contrast or sharp lines that the AI tool mistakes as sharp lines in words.
TRICK #3: Adjusting Text Placement
Believe it or not, something as simple as moving the placement of your text ever so slightly can make all the difference between an ad being flagged or passing with flying colors.
TRICK #4: Adding White Overlay
If there is too much contrast in an ad, you could simply add a slight white overlay to the ad to tone down a certain area and it will make your ad pass.
