I've been riding motorized 2-wheelers since I was 9 or 10, and riding a Valkyrie Interstate for the past 18 years. I'm 63 and it's becoming more of a chore every year, but not anywhere near being too difficult to manage. Whenever I think about buying something smaller, I'm not certain that I even want to ride if it's not on a Valk. Getting old isn't for wimps.

Valks are outstanding machines, I understand your sentiment. We connect with our machines and they become part of us, moving away from them can be difficult. Keep enjoying it for as long as you can, if you still find it enjoyable then go for it, but do not be afraid to make changes if they result in extending your time on the saddle, life is short, continue to live it up. Spot on brother! My exact thoughts, you nailed it. My wife and I have considered an RG3 now, but I'm not ready for that yet. My Dad (Marine vet served in Korea) "Go ahead, you know more than I do...." Heard him say it a thousand times.

I’m about to hit 54, and been riding since I was 15. I ride almost everyday, and still thoroughly enjoy it. I fully intend to ride until I’m physically unable to continue, hopefully another 30 years…….at least. Cool video. Subscribed.

Happy birthday big man. And you’re right: as long as you’re physically and mentally capable to do something then keep at it. That translates into anything in life. I see older people still riding motorcycles, hunting, swimming, graduating from school etc. if you are still capable, than keep at it and don’t go quietly. I'm 76. I came back to riding a year ago, after not having a bike for 50 years. Every day I wonder if I should be riding but as soon as I start going I know it's a good idea. However, if I find that the jerks I have to share the road with are getting to me I go home. I've come to expect people to do stupid things. So, it's dumb to get bent out of shape when they do. Just avoid the hazard and keep riding, or go home.

Im 78. Have not ridden for 20 years. recently bought an indian scout 101. It only took 1 day to get my muscle memory back. Im doing a lot of practice on the basic things, such as slow turns, panic stops ect. The bigest danger is taking a fall will affect an older person a lot more than a younger person. But if you have some experience all should be good.

I got rid of my motorcycle when I got married. Family is more important. Don't start riding a motorcycle if you have a family that depends on you! Elder riders tend to stop motorcycling because of pain not because of increased reaction time, lacking skills or serious accidents. I am 66 and bought my latest motorcycle from a 76 year old rider who had developed shoulder pain. Last week I met a nice lady looking forward to her eightieth birthday next spring. Her children and friends will rent a Harley Davidson for her to ride on the day.

I agree, family is and will always be first, and we need to be responsible to those that depend on us. But I found that riding makes me a happier healthier person, which helps me live a more fulfilling life with my family and loved ones. We will know when it’s time. When it is, I’m getting a Ural sidecar! Don’t know if you are aware, and I think you are close enough, but there’s a painted motorcycle course at Wake Tech on 401 in Raleigh/Garner in one of the big south parking lots. Good to practice on when the lot is empty.

I received my license when I turned 57 and bought a ‘22 Heritage Classic. I made a deal with my wife, that if I became unstable in my riding that I would then give up my bike.

I'm 67 still ride. Age have nothing to do with it. You can be in your 80's have no problems riding a bike or driving a car. people in their 50's need someone else to drive.
