From 2001 onwards, the Civics went to MacPherson struts. The previous gens had double wishbones. The Green one never had a chance

Strut technology has come very far. The fastest fwd cars within the last two decades on the Nurburgring run struts. Tyres and weight are other factors to consider.

Struts can be just as fast as wishbones if set up properly.

Nothing to do with the type of suspension, just the fact that it's a poorly built, worn out POS that's carrying a bunch of extra weight. The same platform with the same suspension design (McPherson struts and multi-link rear) is used on the CTR EP3 and they were hardly poor handling cars. Properly built it could be easily quicker, but the EK would still be the more desirable car IMO.

Never underestimate a tightly-suspended, naturally aspirated FWD hatchback as a track-day weapon. In the early 90’s, I was a rookie driver, autocrossing an ‘89 Civic CX. The rules in my class meant that the finished project was hilariously underpowered, but had a razor sharp chassis. My skills were mediocre, yet my times were routinely lower than Mustangs, Camaros, older Corvettes, Porsche 914’s, BMW’s, etc…
