A couple years back, I was really impressed when an old dude on a Harley showed up at a dual-sport-oriented adventure rider rally .. the only Harley at the event. He borrowed someone's BMW, had a couple offs, bent a rim, yet finished a 220-mile ride. Now we're good friends and I've put some miles on his loaner Harley when visiting.

In my opinion, and this is just my opinion, memorial rides are just another excuse to get out and ride and be stupid. The one I was on had nothing to do with the person we were “remembering”. They just sped the whole time, ran red lights, weaved through traffic and rode on the wrong side of the road. They stopped to eat, went to the beach and then rode back home. I generally don’t like group rides, because it raises the chance for giving out first aid. I like being solo and focus on my technical stuff. Each to his own. However, get a bunch of bikes out there on city streets and it can be a recipe for problems. You need to pick your areas to ride more aggressively, if you care about riding, it only makes sense to be an ambassador for riding. Here in the Monterey Bay Area, we have some pretty great roads up in the mountains.
@kevlarxkoffee3 ай бұрын
It's a difficult topic. When I'm riding with my main group, we ride along pretty well and look after each other. Cars also see us more since we're in a group. But I understand and don't force anyone to ride in a group ride if they don't want to. Also friends from our group has had close friends that passed away riding canyons, and I had a close call with a car in one of my canyons videos, so it convinced me to stay away from those rides. Different for everyone and it's fine. Everyone rides their own ride 🤙

I think the major takeaway would be to understand your skill level and ride accordingly. Everyone was a noob and probably most people did some cringy stuff along the way, so why hate. I dont care much for riding with inexperienced riders while in a pack, including when I was one myself. Some people understand better than others, and I felt I was one of them. It gets way too hectic with noobies in a pack, so the best course of action is everyone create plenty of distance. Take it as serious as if your life depends on it, because it happens fast. No one has anything to prove, pushing past your limits is when things go bad. Practice in a safe environment that minimizes risk when you want to push it, in order to become a better rider.

The rider that went down 'over applied' his rear brake (watch his tail light go on) and locked up his rear wheel. The result is the rear tire slides, losing all adhesion, then slides to one side, collapsing the motorcycle. This is very common and requires the rider to rethink and practice 'panic stops'. Great instructional video and thank God nobody sustained serious injury. If you step through the video moments as he goes down, the tire streak on the ground will become obvious (of the rear tire) and leaves the characteristic 'hook' at its last contact before falling over, losing contact with the ground. Once the bike loses contact with the ground it can be headed to the soft grass or under an 18 wheeler. Sooo.... USE THE FRONT BRAKE, then add some rear break as needed. Please use the front more than the rear and get use to the application, especially on a sport bike which has extremely strong stopping power up front. Learn and practice 'modulation' on non ABS motorcycles especially. Practice, practice, practice and you will come out alive from a panic stop. There are some good videos out there, please take a look. Stay safe and ride it hard and intelligent on the track days.

Dude def panic when guy in front braked and slammed on his brakes and went down I use to ride sport bikes for years and went to Harley’s I know we are all riders but I don’t see the appeal with riding with sport bike groups It’s almost alwyas red line Everywhere rev bomb everywhere (lol and we are known to do that too ) And never a full day let’s cruise across state lines ride

Yea he forsure grabbed to much front brake and washed out. Prolly wasnt paying attention and panic braked when he saw how close guy in front was
@kevlarxkoffee4 ай бұрын
Yea he was following too close. I always mention that in my vids to give space and watch out for riders/cars right in front when they brake. He was looking over his shoulders and freaked out when he looked forward.

I looks like he was leaking brake fluid before he dumped it. You can see the trail. If that got on his tire, he had next to no chance.

I went on a group ride like that on a Harley. But it wasn’t a traditional Harley lol. Pan America Special 1250. Some knew about the bike saying that the PanAm will give a sport bike a run for the money. A few chicks riding sport bikes walked up to it digging the bike and were like “Is this a Harley?” The Pan America is a high tech rocket. The 150hp Revolution Max 1250 is a serious adventure bike. 5 modes Sport, Road, Rain, Off Road, and Off Road + adjust the bike beautifully for a perfect balance of power and stopping depending on what you are doing. The Adaptive Ride height is awesome. While coming to a stop it will automatically lower. When I rode with the group I was in Sport Mode. It automatically adjusted suspension and engine mapping helping me keep up the group with ease. At the end of the day the group had a different vision for Harley. As it did me when I first twist of the throttle. It speaks metric all through the 6 gears. Awesome ride and cool content! Ride safe ✌️.

Looks like he grabbed a handful of front breaks. You can break really hard with the front break but apply breaks gradually. You cannot just squeeze hard all of a sudden. Also don’t go cheap on tires, keep good air pressure.
@mbtbdАй бұрын
Wrong. This was all about an oil leak. Nothing to do with braking. Either you did not watch the video carefully, or you have little if any experience riding.

I’m not a sport bike rider either. However, the sport bike community is more laid back than any Harley group. Sport bike people are more accepting. They wave at me when Harley people don’t.
@NanaRides4 ай бұрын
These kinds of comments keep the stereotype going. Harley riders (myself included) wave to any riders, even trike riders. Some people are just assholes. I've had my wave ignored by sport bike riders and Harley riders. Stop stereotyping people. Some are jerks, some do not see you in time.
@Username-24 ай бұрын
@@NanaRidesThe comments don’t keep the stereotype going, the Harley guys do. Take it up with them. Where I ride in the northeast, Harley guys almost never wave and almost everyone else does.

@@DCoop-uo2wq Just saying 90% of the time it’s Harley guys. The stereotype exists for a reason. Maybe they are all noobs to afraid to take a hand off the bars.

A lot of people get the slide all wrong. It was on oil leak that caused it. There was no hard braking. People, really, did you look at what happened, or is it so important to pass judgement on others, perhaps to make yourself believe you are better? My guess is that the oil filter was not put on properly, maybe an old gasket was left in place, I've seen the exact same thing happen, and when you go over freshly spilled out, very easy to go down.

I’m planning on getting my motorcycle endorsement, sometime in my future. Tbh I’m a sport bike person, love the look of them. Might start out with one of the 2 most common starters (Yamaha r3 or Ninja 400), still haven’t decided which one though. Both are similar but with minor differences.

That’s why I sport bike riders and Harley riders. I have nothing in common because that guy and sport bike was trying to be a tough guy and split lanes and unfortunately those metric bikes are dangerous as fuck. I love them.
