Wow. Five years on, I'm finally catching up. I, too, like Adam Savage's approach to tool storage, but as you noted, his video shows the finished product only. Thanks so much for taking the time to explain your design process first before going through the minute details of construction; now I have a much better idea of how I will make my own cart, which will probably not be half as good as yours!

Nicely done. I like the idea of using the build to really go through your tools and get an idea of which ones you should (gasp!) get rid of. Simple and compact. I like it.

Jag kanske bygger en sånn, inte för att min verkstad är stor, men för att att: 1, jag kan nå verktygen oavsett vad som sitter i skruvstycket eller om jag sitter ner (hänger dom på väggen så kan det bli långt att sträcka sig) samt att jag kan ta dem med höger näven. 2, den går att ta in på vintern. där jag har "lill-svarven" i vardagsrummet.

Cool! I wish there were more and better tool organizing systems. Hazet used to make a tool cart that had trays that collapsed down on two arms for transport. They don't make them anymore.

Grymt fin vagn, helt klart något som får bli på min todo-lista med! .. klurade du något på vikten av de olika höjderna.. det här med att inte ha något för tungt för högt upp så den blir helt vinglig?

Tackar! Nej det funderade jag inte över. Jag har numera rätt så stor belastning på sidorna oxå. Hängt hammare och skruvdragare på sidorna och den är inte vinglig ändå. Har nog mest tyngd uppevid. Pocketholen gör ju att den blir otroligt stabil.

@ Coolt.. ja.. mycket inspirerande.. jag väger fram och tillbaka om jag ska köra mobil-enhet som det där eller klä väggarna med verktyg.. för mig är det viktigt att man lätt kan se/hitta var de är när man grejjar.. vad skulle du göra annorlunda om du gjorde om den där ställningen då?

@@lindkvistandreas det skulle vara den nedersta ”lådan” den blir lätt en ”catch-all” där en herrans massa dret hamnar. Och det är alltid irriterande att få upp saker från den. Sakta men säkert kommer jag på var jag kan sätta grejjerna istället vilket gör att jag numera har mycket stora saker på sidorna. Ex skruvdragare och hammare etc. Borde göra en followup video på den kanske. :)

Really nice and sturdy for such a tall tools cart. I'm making a tall one myself and was worried about it tipping over, but seeing yours works well, I think mine will be ok too, I hope. 😅

Thank you. It is a constant project. Each new tool that I want more accessible needs a specific place and “holder” but it is really good to have all the tools in one place. I have as you can see quite a few “boxes” as the big one in the bottom for power tools and one half way up. Tools that don’t have a specific place tends to end up in them. Still good but not as fast retrieval time as when they have a specific place. Your frame shows promise as well. It all comes down to the holders and shelves in the end. Why the larger base? Is there a plan for something special on the sides?

Thanks for writing back. Glad to hear it is working out. The wider base will be a little more stable and allows me to add my straight edge and level to the outside since they are taller than the rack. I might also store my hammers on one side if my clamps take up to much room in the back. Not sure still trying to organize it all. Thats how I found your video when I was looking for ideas.

All The Hobbies I also added hammers saws and other similar tools on the side of the cart, in special made holders for each tool. The weight of the cart makes it stable enough for me. I need to lean it far out for it to topple over.

I noticed the really nice looking microphone not in use in the background. I had to turn up my volume to hear your video and wonder why. I'm still trying to figure out how to set up my space so I have random questions about organization of course and now about the use of microphones and why you might not be using yours at this moment?

Ah, yes, I havent really solved sound yet. And every video I struggle with that. Why I dont use the mic you see in the background is because it needs 48V power to be used, and I dont have that on my video prod machine. Also needs to be quite close to me to be used. I very seldom do "narrated" videos. I usually do videos when I work and talk, that way I cant use this mic as it would be in the way, and most probably be destroyed... :) As for organizing, I have two future projects that I am working on right now, one is to motorize my movable shelves, and one is to make a downfoldable table for all my laptop music stuff. Both are GREAT space savers and really expands the space of my workshop.

@ for sound quality I use a desktop microphone but I also use a pocket voice recorder with a lapel mic clip to my shirt that way when I turn my head and my voice fades from the desktop mic it still has clear sound that fills in. I'm curious about your motorized shelves? I am putting wheels on everything in my workspace so that I can easily re-arrange my tools and work surfaces for certain projects and so that I can easily clean the floor between projects. I'm curious if youre motors are to make your heavy furniture easier for you to move or if it's so that you can automate your furniture to move for you?

I have also started to use a lapel mic in some instances. But most my work is very adhoc and very scattered. But I am aware of my micing problems... My movable shelves arent motorized (yet). I have bought a CNC shield and motors to begin that work soon. I figured a CNC shield has all the controls needed for this one "axis" for each shelf, and then end stops to make sure I dont run the shelves into each other or hurt anyone... For space saving I can REALLY reccommend doing movable shelves. As they sallow alot of stuff, and then end up as one big "box" in a corner. I also have many "workplaces" that are folded down from the roof, eg. my Song booth video, and also I am working on a "jam table" also folded down (video coming) :) Wheels are good too, but unfortunately too much with wheels and you just end up with a mess. And if there is any cords or too much stuff on any table with wheels they are hard to move. So, much better to have a specific place for everything and make the "fold" away or something. At least that is my problem with my (few) tables with wheels. as for workplaces I have made many along the walls in the shelves system, so I have a specific workplace for each type of work I want to do. I think I have a video about them aswell. For cleaning the floor I have a cheap vacuum robot that I can have running even while I do some projects...

@ I'm working on getting many of my wires hung from my ceiling because I don't like rolling wheels over wires or having to move drag my cables over my work tops when I move them. I really like the idea that I think you're describing to me of squeezing several tool cabinets against each other to save space and rolling them apart to access the tools inside.

That's funny I just took screenshots of Adams video to make my own as well when I ran across this one. Great minds!

It is a really good cart, and I love every time I go to it and get the tool I want fast and easy... Still have some tools that doesnt really have a good place, and that I need to make holders/shelves/hooks for :) If you want to make one, I recommend using the cutsheet linked in the description, If you dont want to make all the measures again :)
